SHENMUE III (First Thoughts) - Happy Console Gamer

Ойындар

Shenmue III 3 review/First Thoughts is an action-adventure game developed by Neilo and Ys Net, published by Deep Silver on November 19, 2019 for Windows and PlayStation 4. The story continues teenage martial artist Ryo Hazuki's quest to find his father's killer in 1980s China.
Director Yu Suzuki conceived Shenmue as a saga spanning multiple games. The first two games were developed by Sega AM2 and published by Sega for the Dreamcast in 1999 and 2001 respectively. The original Shenmue was the most expensive video game ever developed at the time, with an estimated production and marketing cost of over US$47 million, though this also covered some of Shenmue II and groundwork for future Shenmue games. Despite attracting a cult following and appearances in several "greatest video games of all time" lists, the games were commercial failures and Shenmue III spent over a decade in development hell.
At the 2015 E3 conference, following years of speculation, Suzuki launched a Kickstarter campaign to crowdfund Shenmue III, with Sega having licensed Shenmue to Suzuki's company Ys Net. It became the fastest campaign to raise $2 million, in under seven hours, and ended the following month having raised over $6 million, making it the highest-funded video game and the sixth-highest-funded campaign in Kickstarter history. Crowdfunding on other platforms ended in 2018, having raised a total of over $7.1 million.

I'm not, I'm disappointed. I LOVE 1 & 2. But I feel Shenmue 3 is too much repetitive activities with unnecessary grinding added into the game to make it 40 hours long. The voice acting is fine but the mouths don't move in sync with the words they speak. I see a few pop in here and there in cut scenes as well. I really don't like the training system. The one inch punch and horse stance training is annoying. The sparring and fighting monks is fine just the building up of endurance, kung fu and I think the 3rd one is Stamina, that takes too long. It gets repetitive and boring quickly. Plus the running out of energy so you need to buy food constantly and make money constantly and run back and forth constantly between "missions" to do all this is repetitive, boring and annoying. It was made to added additional hours of gameplay so Yu Suzuki can say Shenmue 3 is twice as large as the first 2. Never thought I'd say this but Shenmue 3 has turned me off to the series. I am not even interested in Shenmue 4 at this point.

I played Shenmue 1 and 2. They were both fun to play multiple times. Shenmue 3 is not fun, it's boring, repetitive, the pacing of the game is off, too much grinding required that it's just an over load of grinding, the MPC mouths don't move in correlation to the words they're saying so it looks odd. Game is a 6/10 at best. Sure, the music is the same, the visuals and environments are beautiful but that's it. I really also like that Ryo kind of has a filthy mouth and some of the dialogue between the thugs and Ryo is quite hilarous, the thugs say some funny things to insult Ryo.

I'm going to be honest. Mostly to myself. When I booted it up, and the game just immediately picked up where the second game ended...I started crying like a little child. 18 years of waiting and a lot of pent up emotions...the last 18 years just started to flash before my eyes, and I realized how much of an impact the original 2 games had on me to become the person I am today. And then I stopped. And then I started crying again. I never thought this day would come. I could only do the first 15 minutes before just breaking down in absolute tears after hearing some of the tunes. I have waited for this game for more than half of my life.

Great video! Your enthusiasm is very contagious. I got my backer copy in the mail today, but since I don't yet own a PS4 it'll be a while until I get to play it. I've purposely stayed away from playing any Shenmue since 2003, desperately clinging to a vague hope that maybe one day we will get Shenmue III and I can play through the story from the beginning a second time. It's almost imposible to believe but that day has now finally arrived, and I'd like to think I made the right decision all those years ago. Hopefully it'll lead to some genuine surprises in Shenmue 1 and 2. I remember a lot, but far from everything. I'm honestly not sure how I'll react to playing the game again all these years later. I can only hope I'll be able to reconnect with the old Shenmue magic, but regardless of how successful I am with that, I'm extremely happy it's released now. Yu Suzuki is probably very happy as well, and it's well deserved. He never gave up on bringing us the continuation of Ryo's story.

Johnny. Thanks so much for this. You made me decide 100% to grab it. I LOVED 1&2. But I was so unsure. I feel bad for doubting yu suzuki. I’m all in now. The talk of emotion while you were playing made me smile. I missed that feeling with the games back when they first came out. I missed feeling that way about games when I was younger. Now I can feel it again. I can’t wait!

Johnny, 8 years ago I saw your original Shenmue video and the love you have for the games and I instantly subscribed as I am such a HUGE Shenmue fan too. That video was the first I had ever seen about Shenmue and was so happy to see someone else's passion and love for the games. And ever since the Shenmue III announcement I have been looking forward to your initial thoughts video and I'm so happy that you are enjoying it! I myself LOVE Shenmue III! It's the most Shenmue game ever if that even makes sense ha ha! I'm about 6 hours into it and all I've been doing is one inch punches and chopping wood! Cannot wait to get stuck right back into it again tonight!

Johnny, I'm just gonna say as I watch your video, I feel your same emotion. Watching you has transplanted me back to 9/9/99 and I was the first person in line at Langley Air Force Base to buy a Dreamcast. A year later, I bought the game imo , started open world game's. That was 20 year's ago. I'm 52 now, Retired Navy, have grandkids and I'm still humbled that this game is a reality. I never thought it would happen. I'm literally feeling emotion from a time where my kid's were younger and so many game's gave us great memories. Granted, my oldest son finished Shenmue 2 on Xbox original before I did, but still, we hold a special place for Shenmue. We also hold a special place for Jade Empire and Fable: The Lost Chapters. I feel your emotion because this was a time where there wasn't greedy gaming companies, game's weren't half assed and relied on patches and there was no such thing as day 1 dlc. Just solid game's and fun, memorable character's. I'm with yah man. I feel what you feel. I just hope it doesn't take another 20 year's for Virtua Fighter 6. Keep up the awesome work my friend.

Sega made the ending of Shenmue 2 so off the wall mysterious. It wasn’t just mysterious, it was supernatural crazy. It changed the entire tone of the whole story. The reason the ending stuck with the fans for so long and why they wanted a sequel so desperately is they wanted to see how the third game would live up to that crazy ending. Shenmue 2 left everyone feeling sure as sure can be that a Shenmue 3 was going to be a crazy game. Filled with big emotions, supernatural twists, epic fighting, action sequences unlike anything yet to be seen in the series, learning all kinds of things about Lan Di, learning what happened to his father, seeing Shenhua unfold into an epic character, seeing her fall for Ryo. They introduce the new Niao Sun finally, fans felt sure she was going to be developed and found out about finally, since we’ve never known anything. I wondered if maybe she would fall in love with Ryo and cause an awkward split between shenhua and Ryo, maybe we’d see Ryo have more complex emotions finally…….literally none of this happened. Nothing even like it. Virtually no story. Shenmue 3 is literally about nothing else than “let’s find your father Shenhua”. I think the reason it fell flat for fans was that it didn’t even attempt to live up to what the ending of Shenmue 2 implied the sequel would be like. In fact, never was the floating sword acknowledged or explained. Like……like……sighhhhhhbbhhbhhhhhh

Im running through both now. You can choose to play 1 fast or try to find every secret thing. Id suggest fast since the stuff gets real in shenmue 2 which truly is a better version of shenmue 1 in the end. If your going to go indepth do it with that game.
