A fearless writer and broadcaster, John Pilger has covered conflicts, politics, and social and economic injustice around the world. Since first gaining international recognition for his coverage of the Vietnam War, he has been celebrated for his reporting from Cambodia, Biafra, Palestine and East Timor. Between these dispatches he has always returned to his country of birth, Australia, to document its inhuman treatment of the Aborigine nation. Alongside a screening of his latest film on Australia, Utopia, Doc/Fest welcomes John Pilger to discuss his work as one of the most outspoken and uncompromising journalists of his generation.

I've been following Pilger's work for more than ten years. He has inspired me to make my own independent documentaries. I have made two so far (available on my channel) and, having just finished the second, am gutted I lost the chance to email them to him as intended. His feedback would have been dearly cherished. I'm also preparing to upload my 2021 expose on US-UK complicity in Yemen, for which I interviewed authors David Wearing and Isa Blumi. Thanks John for your inspiration. Rest in power
