Shearing A Gulf Coast Native Sheep On A Porch
Үй жануарлары мен аңдар
Here is a great example on how to set up for a one sheep job.
For any shearer to complete their task safely, they need the sheep to be 100% dry, off feed for (at bare minimum)12 hr before the appointment, caught in a small pen, electricity and a plywood floor. This set up checks all of those boxes.
Stay tuned for better video quality, more crimp and mouth watering fleeces up close.

YALL!! This video is from last summer, but I sheared this sheep again on Sunday and the owner gave us the fleece! We are going to weigh it and then take it from raw to roving, showing y’all the process along the way. I don’t have the time or skill to take it farther, so we are giving it away after it’s processed into roving! If you want a chance at it, comment what you think the weight will be in pounds to the second decimal. Like this “1.35 lbs”. We’ll ship it at our expense to the closest guess without going over! We will add the weighing to the end of next Sunday April 23rd 2023’s breed video! So guesses accepted until then! Happy guessing 💕

Such a pretty fleece! I would say 5.56 lbs
I watched a guy shearing a sheep in another video the other day and I felt so sorry for the animal. He was rough with the sheep and there was no consideration for the animal. He just ripped through it to get on with the next sheep. You are amazing and kind to each animal I see you with. Please don't ever change. I admire your skill and your ❤️ heart!

Yes I saw him too. Once was enough
I just love watching you work! That sheep looked stoned, just sitting there going "whoooooa...." as you handled her like a pro. It looks like hard work, yet fun too. I bet you fall into bed at night exhausted, but happy with y'all's good-days work.

Exactly why the shearer is cut! Good work and keeps you strong!
She looked quite relaxed during her haircut! I think a scale would be a great addition. Because I'm sure that blanket was heavy but the numbers would really put it perspective. Hope you both are doing well!

They sometimes do bag & weigh fleeces in their videos! I mostly watch the shorts and compilations and have seen it a couple times

@@Ksweetpea I've seen them do it also. But it would be nice when they have big blankets to see how much they weigh. I'm not going to stop watching if they don't. Because it's completely mesmerizing as it is now.

Well first you have to skirt the fleece, and believe me not all of that makes it to be carded.
After watching some other shearing videos, it becomes evident how much better you are at this.
This is for both of you: I’m @ 67 year old retired man who has never spent any significant time on a farm or ranch or knowingly touched a sheep or a llama in my life. But I discovered your channel last week and I just can not get enough of your videos. There is just something so satisfying about seeing a clean, comfortable animal emerge a little at a time from its heavy fleece. Your skills at handling the animals and your obvious care from them are a joy to see, and I hope your viewers appreciate the sheer (unintended pun) amount of physical labor involved in everything from carrying and setting up your equipment to handling the animals. Thank you so much for putting out these videos and I wish you both continued success and happiness.

Yes, same here. I live in the city.
Nice to see a pet sheep in such good condition. Too often pets tend to be over fed, which isn’t healthy and makes shearing more difficult for the shearer and more uncomfortable for the sheep.
She looked totally content, and I do believe she may have even been a little ticklish ☺️
That's one layed back sheep.😂 She wasn't the least bit bothered....great job ladies!
You make shearing an art.
I swear you get better with every sheering. You make it look so easy, but I know it is far from easy.

I love how she stretches her legs out straight while you're shearing her. Especially while you're doing the back legs and hips. It looks like a luxury spa for sheep!
It's so great to see more people raising rare breeds and using their wool. Big shout out to the Livestock Conservancy!🐑🐂🐇🐓🐐
I'd love for you to mention the lanolin that comes from them during a shear. I used to love the feel of it as a child!

She has mentioned the lanolin on a few of the "shorts" videos. (So sorry I can't recall which ones.)
It is amazing how expressive sheep are. :)
I think that is the prettiest little darlin' in the face that I have seen here yet ! Such enormous eyes and placid face !! LOVE her.Shears like buttah.
I can't figure out why I find this so soothing
I like this better than the shorts. It looked like you were dancing with the sheep. Doing the SHEARING SHUFFLE. 😂
You honestly make shearing seem so easy but I grew up around shearing and know what back breaking work it is. Great work she looked amazing.
That was incredible that they did that for you! Great job!
The sheep is so gorgeous and I appreciate that y'all treat all the beings kindly, it means so much
So satisfying to watch this and see how comfortable the sheep is with you. She look like she was falling asleep! Thank you for these great videos and thank you for being so gentle with the sheep even though you're doing your job and trying to do an efficient shearing.
I think the reason they behave so well is that they know they're going to feel so much better afterwards!

And they probably get tonnes of treats immediately afterwards lol, sheep are simple creatures, a little bit of positive reinforcement and they’ll do whatever you want lol

It probably feels good as it's coming off as well. Especially for the heavy producing breeds or breeds that get wool blind.
You make this look so easy-very satisfying. I don’t recall sheep shearing to be so relaxed when the sheep were sheared on the farm where I grew up.
I'm not sure why watching these videos is so relaxing, especially when the sheep is so relaxed. I'm going to guess that fleece weighs PRECISELY 6.55 pounds
I'm guessing 7.63 lbs. I love watching you two work, thanks!
Keep up the good work you are an amazing person🙏🏼♥️

Thanks for sharing your passion for shearing...love watching your gentle but effective treatment of our wooly friends. I'm thinking that last year's fleece weighs 13.24 pounds. Thanks for your generosity and looking forward to seeing what the winner will make with the wool.
I love watching you while you are shaving the sheep I'm so delighted ❤😊
I love her little face as she is hanging out as you sheer her! And what a fabulous opportunity to win her fleece! I am doing a breed study, trying to knit and spin with as many different sheep breeds as I can lay my hands on. Currently on 62, but no American breeds so far. How heavy do I think this fleece might be? I am going for 5.22. Good luck everybody!
You are so wonderful with the animals that you shear, I saw another person doing this type of work in a large farm setting and the sheep seemed so much more nervous than any of the sheep that you work with, they are all so calm. You are a wonderful shearer.
I bet that feels so good to them❤ Great work
Once again, job so very well done with kindness and consideration for the animals you and your wife work on. Your shearing is how I wish all were handled!! ❤❤
Hello! Guessing 4.23 for today's date. I love watching Every Video, Every Time!
It seems like that would feel soooo good to the animals… getting rid of several pounds of heavy fleece. If I ever decide to get sheep or alpaca, you’ll be the ones I call for shearing!
She has such a pretty face, & I'm sure she feels much better! Lucky Sheep!
You make shearing a sheep look so easy. I am thoroughly impressed that you got everything sheared off in one piece. Keep up the good work!
I'm going to guess 4.48 lbs for the fleece weight. So awesome you are doing this and I love your voice overs on the videos.
I love watching u work the sheep says thank u in there eyes
Beautiful fleece! I'm going to guess 13.50 lbs. Thank you for giving us the chance to win it! I can't wait to watch the process, and on the off chance I win, I know someone who can weave this stuff and I will be having myself a new blanket to watch TV, read, and drink Dr pepper with!
Girl you've got the touch, and your work is smooth and fast.
I'm excited yiur you two to meet The Sheep Game!
you have a really radiating smile!
Going to guess 6.79 pounds pre-processed. Love watching your videos and seeing all the variety.
You do such a great job. I get nervous when you go over their eyes. Sometimes they are so close to your face I wonder if any try to bite you. They all look so calm. You do an amazing job on those with years of matted fleece. I saw another person's video of shearing a very matted sheep. The entire animal was knicked head to toe. They should have hired you. Thanks for taking the animal into consideration and doing a great job.
There's something very calming about watching you at work on these animals. I'm going to guess 17.58 pounds.
So awesome that they kept the pet sheep in the house to keep it dry for shearing. I am going to guess that the fleece weighs 4.38 lbs
I'm going to guess 11.25 lbs. Thank you for all these amazing videos! I love to see how gentle you and your wife are with the animals.
I really like the new Logo. Looks good & about time if you don't mind me saying so. You build and represent a pro channel and I love seeing you grow. Educating and fun. Top mix imho😎Keep on the good work. Greetings from 👍👌👍
I’ve never been interested in sheep nor do I own any, but watching you shear this woolly creature is fun to watch-you make it look so easy! Subscribed.
Im gonna say 4.33 lbs. I love that if I win the fleece, I will have seen the sweet face of the sheep that grew it!
This gave me so much peace. I’m going to watch it again. Thank you!

Well now, that is a very pretty ewe. She has a very Leister face and an outrageously pretty fleece
I think that sheep wanted a little kiss from the groomer❤️❤️🇨🇦
I was surprised that you didn't react when she stuck her nose in your armpit! Myself, I would have jumped through the roof. great job!
Love you, your wife & your entire vibe! I've learned so much from you. My guess for fleece wt: 5.28 lbs. Thanks for the chance to win!
Who knew I’d enjoy watching shearing so much?! My guess on the weight is 5.47lbs.
Looks good. I'm a weaver and my sister in law does the spinning. My guess is 4.78. Love you guys.
It just gets better and better! I'm guessing the fleece weighs 6.19 pounds. This sheep looks like she is really enjoying her spa treatment!
Her face was so sweet!
Removed pain from sheep. Thank you sir. Good luck.
I love the way you keep the animals calm while shearing them I guess 6.72lbs
Zo mooi om te zien, je doet het met liefde
I'm guessing this lovely fleece from last year weighs 5.716 pounds. I guessed under the reply to your comment with the exact same number. I wasn't sure which place to comment. I commented the exact same number to be fair. I guessed that number because the three numbers after the decimal are my lucky number.💖💖💖
So amazing! Love watching!
Love that you do small farm like a one sheep set up. Beautiful care and workmanship. 🙌🙌
I Love Love Love watching your videos. I really like how you explain things. Watching your vids relaxes me. Thanks. 👍🙏💖.
You guys are the best. Thank you for sharing your lifestyle and talents with us. Thank goodness for nice people like you. I love how you treat the animals. ❤
Gorgeous pet sheep. So expressive. I can see her deciding, moment by moment to trust you.
Another sweet, gentle shearing that I really enjoyed watching! You are the best ❤
Her snack hidey-holes!! She’s my spirit animal🤣🤣🤣
I'm guessing 7.84lbs for GCN sheep's fleece. I saw you weigh the fleece from a massive sheep who missed a year of shearing (was a +++ overgrown fleece) and it was 22lbs! Hopefully all those treats will have grown this pet GCN'S wool to weigh what I estimated. I love your videos, you're such a natural at both your job and in front of the camera. Please do more long-form content!!
I don't think I could have a sheep for a pet with this type of commitment.
Love watching you shear....it is so relaxing!! My guess is 7.07 lbs. Can't wait to see what's coming!!
Your videos are both funny and relaxing after a long day. Thank you for caring for the animals too! I guess 16.22 lbs!
My guess for the fleece weight is 6.19 pounds. I enjoy watching your videos. The care you take in working with the animals and the skill it takes to do this work amazes me.
Oh, how fun! I just love watching you guys. My guess is 8.12 pounds. Thanks to you both for always brightening my day with new videos!
The animals are so relaxed when you shear them. You are so gentle and loving. I won't watch anyone else. Makes my heart hurt on how rough they are.
You do amazing work! I love how you always make the animal's comfort a priority! My guess for the fleece is 4.69 lbs. Shear on!😊
I could hear her saying "I'm not going to fight with you, but I will get comfortable ".
Thank you for narrating.
Wow, you make it look so easy. Done in less than 5 minutes!
You really are an expert. Respect.
My weight guess is 5.62! Love watching you shear all the animals! We have cvm sheep and llamas!
Love your videos! We had a neighbor with lovely black faced beauties. They had a fella that would shear with a hand shear. He made it look so easy. I was given the opportunity to try my hand. I realized what a skill it is.
I hope to one day be a homesteader, when I have a better handle on most everything I want to have a mix flock of goats and sheep for the whole lot, milk meat and fleeces 1 of the ways I learn is watching so watching you gives me a good idea of how it supposed to look like and go
Your awesome 😎 love watching you do this xxx
Entering my guess as 6.14lbs - and it's a good thing you've got a second place prize, because I've already seen one set of duplicate guesses in the comments! Good luck to everyone!
5.23 lbs Love what y'all do!!
I have been watching your videos for quite some time. Two points: First of all, you have the most engaging smile! Secondly, please take care of your back! I hope you 4:03 consult a physical therapist for advice about strengthening your core and protecting your back!
Good job as always❤❤❤
