gary… ‘in your view it should be white only’ is an odd way of saying equity is box ticking. Applied (not implied) equity in this instance led to a person with the ‘correct’ skin tone, ‘correct’ sex, and possibly the ‘correct’ sexual orientation. The result is what we see being played out.

He threatened the school and said he had the means to fight the accusations. Harvard backed off, and he went on his merry way-keeping his prestige. Gay was afforded that type of treatment.

I was in college during the early to mid-1970s. There were mostly liberal professors even then. Having already served 4 years in the USAF, i was a a few years older than most of my co-students. Other than my stem classes, I took my liberal arts professors teaching with a grain of salt. But we could disagree with them without fear of grading reprisal. Most of them welcomed open debate and the ones who didn't were quickly found out. It was a different and better time to learn than it is today.

Agreed. I graduated in the early 2000s and started to see the intolerance grow even then. I wanted to minor in African literature and was horrified at what was being taught. The literature and indigenous culture was completely overlooked in favor of dwelling only on the oppression, which I admit is part of the history but shouldn't be the only aspect studied. One of the few white students in my class did a presentation where she lit a candle and then cried over the "crimes" of her ancestors - like what?!? The other students in the classroom and myself just looked at each other, all uncomfortable, but the professor hugged her and thanked her for admitting to the wrongs of her people. I graduated the following year but not before getting lecture after lecture about lowering standards in the name of equity. Utterly revolting, and it wasn't nearly as bad as it is now.

U.S. universities generally enjoy a higher degree of academic freedom compared to institutions in more authoritarian regimes. In the United States, academic freedom is a core principle that allows scholars to research, teach, and express ideas without fear of institutional censorship or government control. This freedom is integral to the democratic fabric and is distinct from free speech, adhering to rigorous academic standards and intellectual dissent, which are crucial in challenging authoritarian structures and societal norms. In contrast, universities under authoritarian regimes often face significant restrictions, with academic freedom curtailed to align with government policies and ideologies. If you are looking to make America more inclusive, look at changing the republican Party. The current composition of the Republican Party in the U.S. Senate, is 100% Christian with only 4% being non-white and 8% women, highlights a lack of diversity, particularly among Republican senators. This homogeneity raises concerns about the potential for narrow perspectives influencing broader policy decisions, including those affecting diverse institutions like universities. What if the republican party first fixes its own problem of racial and religious exclusion, before it starts pretending it is the guiding light of tolerance and understanding. In the whole history of the Republican Party, there have only been three Jewish Senators’ Jacob Javitz, Norm Coleman and Arlen Specter, and Specter started as a democrat and then switch parties in 2009.

@@busterbiloxi3833 Dershowitz made the suggestion in a 1997 op-ed in the Los Angeles Times, suggesting that 15 was a reasonable age of consent, no matter how old the other partner was. Not a surprise he was the most frequent quest of Epstein and a regular sexual predator. Not surprisingly. in the newly released Epstein documents pertaining to Dershowitz, include allegations made by an unnamed woman, Jane Doe #3. Jane Doe #3 said Epstein “required” her to have sexual relations with Dershowitz on multiple occasions when she was a minor. Epstein’s housekeeper Juan Alessi testified that Dershowitz would often visit Epstein’s Florida mansion to get massages, and another one of Epstein’s household employees, Alfredo Rodriquez, said the lawyer was frequently with underaged girls at the Epstein resident. Nor surprisingly. Dershowitz furthermore “played a significant role in negotiating an agreement that provided immunity from federal prosecution in the Southern District of Florida not only for Epstein but also for ‘any potential co-conspirators of Epstein’, the documents say.” For this work he got further sex favors from minors. Ironically, Dershowitz case is perhaps the most deserving of consideration at the present moment, given that he has potentially been tapped by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to defend Israel at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague. Israel will appear before said court to contest the accusation, made by South Africa, that it is committing genocide in the Gaza Strip, where the Israeli military has killed more than 22,000 Palestinians in less than three months.
