The two state solution sounds good but will not work. The functional capability difference of the two cultures is too great. The underdog needs an enemy. Functional capability includes economic, goverance and education. A two state solution on two continents might work!

Since before 1948, the Palestinian leadership has only ever wanted a “one state solution.” So why are these same people suddenly upset when Israel is finally agreeing with them?

Trans Jordan occupied land west of the Jordan for 19 years and even officially changed their name to solidify their claim to conquered AND annexed territory in 1949 Jordan would still occupy that UN mandated territory meant for an INDEPENDENT Palestinian state, if Israel had freed that land from Jordanian control in 1967 Then Israel offered most of the land THEY FREED FROM JORDANIAN CONTROL for a Palestinian state Where was all the terrorist activities and world outrage over the invasion and occupation of Palestine and even outright annexation by the Jordanians for 19 long years?

Very level-headed except his opinion on a two-state solution. The Palestinians have had opportunities for many decades to have their own state but refuse to allow Israel to exist. "From the river to the sea" is their mantra. Move them all to Yemen. And let the Saudis feel what Israel has been feeling for seventy-five years.

Two state solution is easy to say but very hard to implement. In Gaza it is important to remember that the Palestine Aithority under Fatah was so incompetent that they paved a way for Hamas in 2006 as soon as Sharon took the easy way out and "disengaged" aftet 38 years occupation. For the last fourteen years Netanyahus government compounded the danger of this easy way out by ignoring the growing threat of Hamas. Corruption and incompetence is a reality within both Likud and Fatah . In the case of Fatah , their government paved the way for extremist groups like Hamas. In the casr of Likud corruption and incompetence has led to coalitions with dangerous nutcase extremists. Jumping into a two state solution with Likud and Fatah at the helm will only compound what is already an existential situation for Israel and Palestine

When Arafat was offered a 2 state solution he called for an intifada. Hamas usually calls for Jihad.

Professor Dershowitz, I don’t see any possibility of a 2 state solution because neither party can live with a neighboring state as defined by the other. Israel will never go back to the green line, will never accept an independent Palestine without strict border controls in order to prevent arms entering the West Bank and Gaza, and will never accept the Palestinian right of return. Furthermore, what happens if an the government independent Palestine is overthrown in a coup and replaced with a rejectionist regime similar to Hamas? Finally, a rejectionist Iran would have to dramatically reverse their entire foreign policy in order for a 2 state solution to be implemented and I don’t see that happening anytime soon. On the Palestinian side, they won’t accept anything less than full statehood which is utterly incompatible with Israel’s national interests as I just described.

Please get rid of the 2 state solution. 2 states mean Gaza is only for Arabs and Muslims=no Jews. No Christians. 2 states mean All of the west bank is only for Arabs and Muslims. No Jews. No Christians. 2 states mean that Hamas is allowed to attack Israel at any time. Israel proper should then be only for Israelis and Jews. Palestinians already have Egypt, Jordan, Gaza. Palestinians up until 1948 were nomads, mostly from Arabia which is now Saudi. Free the Hostages.

I think the important part was missing: What needs to happen for a two-state solution? To give some ideas: - cleaning of UN of terrorist supporters - no weapons inside of Palestine except police force, controlled by UN troups - external teachers in school for the next 10 years - constitution guarantees existance of Israel and forbids violance promoting in schools - no one of current leadership will be part of a new government - a walk away is no option anymore, Palestine will found a state based on the last offers as a basis for discussions - and all Arab neighbor states guarantee the existance of Israel and no weapons delivery combined with sanctions in case of violation by all signing countries. - Hamas funds will be used for Palestine
