She Turned This Abandoned Hut Into A Dream Woodland Cabin

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Nestled into a beautiful backdrop of the Tasmanian forest lies Lucy’s charming cabin. Originally built by her parents in 1994 as their very first family home, the hut fell into disrepair. After years of neglect, and eventually abandonment, Lucy, working together with her father lovingly restored the old shack and it became, once again, an idyllic woodland cabin home.
This is a home that has an incredible amount of heart. Lucy was born in this hut and all of her earliest memories of home were created in this place. Being given the chance to restore the cabin and make it her own space to create memories in as a young adult is a dream come true.
Her home is the absolute definition of coziness. Idyllically located amongst towering trees and a meandering stream, stepping into this home immediately invokes a feeling of warmth and comfort. An oversized wood stove keeps the home toasty warm. The interior is a collection of art, memories and pre-loved items. It’s filled with art and curiosities which make every part of the home interesting.
In crafting this home together with her father, Lucy has learned valuable skills that will last her a lifetime. Skills that she hopes to use again to build a tiny home for herself in the future. Until then though, this home has become a sanctuary for her. A place to create her art and a place which gives her freedom to pursue her life passions.
We hope you enjoy the tour of this magical woodland cabin. A place with a deep sense of home. You can follow Lucy's cabin journey on Instagram: / lucy.river.goose

I noticed immediately that this was a well-loved and lived in home, not a showcase. It was neat, tidy and clean, but it was an eclectic gathering of items with stories and lots of love flowing through them. I loved hearing her say that she would like to have her first child there (or be living there when she brings the baby home from the hospital?). She so grounded. I could totally imagine sitting down for a chat and a cup of tea and enjoying a pleasant time with her in her home!

Lovely place, but again it is another property on family land. Land for a tiny home is always the biggest issue, but it is always glossed over on the videos on this channel. Building a tiny home on land your family own is much less of challenge than having to start from scratch. Most of the people on this channel are privileged by having a combination of having family land they can use, a parent skilled in construction, and/or having access to a workshop. I like this channel a lot, but it does not reflect the life that the majority of us experience.

She is an "old soul"...she imbues such warmth & kindness and it shows how she's left all those special memories in her home. It would have been so easy to rip the guts out of the space and make it minimalistic. But in preserving all those past residents artworks etc, she's made a wonderful home & meeting place for fellow creatives. Bless her.

It's not against anyone who likes that aesthetic in their tiny house, but that white minimalist decors so many have can make them seem almost interchangeable - where as this is hers, and could only be hers , it is so imbued with her spirit and life and past. As a failed sentimental minimalist myself I love her cosy higgledy piggledy aesthetic!

Looks so peaceful. I am 82 and even as a young child I have loved seeing and hearing stories from the past. Still do! Your cabin is truly a home. Thank you for sharing. I love looking out my window and watch my deer friends, Charley the squirrel and his friend Charlene, family of quail, birds building nests and even day before Thanksgiving a turkey came strutting down the drive. I am so BLESSED! So are you! We are told there will be mansions in heaven and I have already asked God that my mansion be a cabin in the woods. God's Blessings!

How blessed for anyone to have a cabin on their parents land to create and envision such a beautiful personal home. To be nestled in this woodland setting is what dreams are made of. Her aesthetic is so authentically her. I love a home that no one else has. When she said she thinks of herself as a bird... I always call decorating "feathering my nest". The night time view of the open mike nights looked absolutely magical with all the lights and fire pits and friends and music and love. At 73... reminds of the 60's. Good times and good friends. How special to share this sanctuary with other kindred spirits. Oh my.... her voice at the end singing... more,, more,, more!

As someone who loves tiny old houses, and everytime I see a derelict one I want to bring it back to life, I absolutely love what Lucy has done with her cabin! It is so warm and inviting, homey and unique. How fortunate to have such an amazing history with your home! Bryce and Rasa, if half of your videos were transformations like these, I would be in tiny home heaven! This cabin reminds me a lot of my own home here in Canada - my wood stove is almost exactly the same, and my place is uninsulated too. I have an outhouse and an outdoor shower though I don't have running water. I just love the lifestyle - close to nature and truly "real." Thanks to Lucy for sharing her home, and to you guys for bringing it to us!

I definitely vibe with this woman’s style and aesthetic choices. This lady brings a different ethic to home building/ renovating/ creating. The importance of a landing pad bring security and yes, freedom without the pressure of having to work to pay rent or mortgage. Freedom to always have a base and more importantly a tangible home to return to. Home with roots. The place you grow up in hopefully provides a space of comfort, stability. This lady has created her home centre so early in life. Allowing her energies to flow far and wide from this home centre, filled with meaning. ❤

Ah Lucy as soon as I saw that Paddymellon and the bush I knew exactly where you were without even reading Bryce's intro...lived in the Midlands for 10 years and explored as much of Tassy bush as we could...aren't those waterfalls gorgeous?? Love your cute cabin and your ethos for life. So glad you got to follow the family history and add to it yourself, and I DO HOPE your brothers pick up the reins and run with them... I also look forward to your next adventure. Maybe your next Tiny Home will be in NZ... One thing I do miss about Tas are those awesome Tip Shops we bought alot of stuff from them ourselves over time and for a pittance too. Love the way you decorated 'hippy style' with all of the 70's colours...that orange bedspread is divine.. even at 70 and now living in WA I still have those mirrored bags, cushions, pouffe's etc in my home... BTW don't ever worry about what other people think, do your own thing for yourself. Good luck with your future endeavours...I hope the creek flows soon, I hear Tas is in drought at the moment but then its not the lush green state that mainlanders imagine, that's long gone with the apple trees. love and hugs from WA. Thanks Bryce and Rasa for finding another Tassy gem.. Not everyone lives minimalistically (is that a word) Lucy you have to surround yourself with what warms your heart. I personally think minimal living is a cold way to live, if you look at some of these young couples who have these modern flats with no nick knacks, no colour, no memories, no family photos etc in their homes all they are doing is living in a show home going to work then returning to this cold barren cave with no memory of family who may be far away, no hobbies, no art, just friends who come to eat and drink and talk abut work...cold cold cold!! Family is the core of every home or it should be...spread your love and teach others how its done.

It's refreshing and inspiring to see more than just the classic THOW in this video. On top of that, I'm excited to have an episode that, in my view, honours the early days of this movement, when tiny houses were self-built and costs were well under $50K (well under). Living in houses, we are so used to having amenities in easy reach, but I have found that life can be pretty comfortable when your house serves its function, but might be just a tin roof over an open deck. A kitchen could be a wood slab on top of two saw horses, with a bucket for a sink. That bucket could be copper, to add some aesthetic. Outdoor showers get you just as clean as any other.

I am a bit sick of wasteful people who buy things that are in an throw everything out when the fashion changes. Quasi empty houses, bleached of colour and personality are horrible but very common. When I was in my esrly 20's I lived in a little place like this next to a creek but I think mine might have been smaller. It had one very small bedroom and a room that was more like a large closet but we built some bunk beds for my 2 kids who were really little. The bed took up most of the room but you could walk around 2 side of the bed and they had a small dresser. We also had horses ( still do 45 years later) It also had a really big wood stove which was our only heat. The kids had rabbits dogs cats nad later chickens. It was ru down and drafty but we fixed up a lot of it, built some things in and had a lot fo fun there. Its cute!

I definitely get that connection. I grew up in an old farmhouse in The Netherlands that my dad worked for two decades to convert into a home. In early 90s I was 21, still living at home (which was not unusual), and my dad and I worked together to turn an unused attic into an apartment for me. My future wife moved in with me and we were there when we got married. Got to see the house a few years back and they were still using it as a room for their two daughters to hang out. Building with your parents creates lifelong memories. Great video.

A fairy cottage. People will think it's mine as Im a Lucy too. I'm 54 and live on acreage near the beach in Victoria and hope to build my 24 year old daughter a similar cosy tiny. (i can live in it later on and she can then move into the big house with her babies...hah ha thats my plan.) Thank you Lucy for sharing your beautiful eclectic soul HOME.

The best tiny house I've ever seen!!!! Of all the episodes I've watched in this channel, this one is the most authentic, beautiful, soulful one yet. I feel drawn to her and feel like this is the life I've imagined for myself.

So many thoughts evoked by this cabin. Her spirit is strong! These are the types of artists who need to keep the tape running whenever they sing. Great sings can appear in the middle of the night on a lark. Love the grey tabby as well.

IT was delightful to see an affordable and realistic tiny home- so many are super expensive and obviously not everyone can afford those. What a blessing to have her parents let her live here and her father to help with the remodel. Luck lady!! She will be a wonderful steward of this land...now and in the future.
