@@nostalgicnyla5876 Your talking about the definition of sunnah from the viewpoint of the Muhaditheen / hadith scholars I.e., they are sayings, actions, approvals of the prophet . When we speak of The Hijab , then we're speaking about its (hukm) ruling /legal value according to Islam and this is a realm reserved to the Fuqaha ( Jurists) , so Sunnah for them refers to whatever is commended by Shari‘ah without an obligation to do it; those who do it are rewarded, while those who do not are not punished... you see the problematic here when referring to hijab as sunnah ? ... We know that the hijab is not optional the ruling taken from the Qur’an Surah An-Nur 24:31.. It is Wajib meaning an obligatory act.... that whose performance is rewarded and whose non performance is punished . Allahu A'lam Anyways It was a clear slip of the tongue and nothing to stress over.

Everything that is fard is sunnah by default. Sunnah is what the prophet, صلى الله عليه وسلم did, said, or approved of, so he, صلى الله عليه وسلم would obviously do, say, and approve of everything that’s fard. There are different contexts in which scholars use the word “sunnah.” Here, Shaykh Hamza is not using the term as a hukum but as a common practice of the ummah

Read the blessed Qur'an with an open mind especially when cliché lies such as "it was stolen from other books etc.." are being used, how so? when our blessed prophet Mohamed pbuh could neither read or write and was unlettered which in itself is a mirracle testifying to what was also mentioned by Jesus pbuh in the bible when he said in John 16:12 "i have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now. [13] Howbeit when HE, the Spirit of truth (thats the prophet Mohamed pbuh, if you read his biography he was always known as the truthful one, and saying its the holy spirit makes 0 sense here), is come, HE will guide you into all truth: for HE shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever HE shall hear, that shall HE speak: and HE will shew you things to come". The Qur'an contains absolutely no contradictions. The bible has a multitude of contradictions and many versions in which youll find some ommited texts and books that the church fathers couldnt agree on as the original message during the time of Jesus pbuh and language (Aramaic) was lost in translation in hebrew and greek. Some of the scientific miracles in the Qur'an have only just been recently discovered by modern science, proven by scientists who themselves reverted to Islam (plenty of videos on youtube to check out, Dr. Maurice bucaille is one), thats just some of the signs from our merciful Lord to show us that his message is the way and the truth thats always been and some wicked humans can never change it even if they all gathered to try. Islam which means submission to the Creator aligns with the sound reasoning and all the previous messengers sent by Allah (God) who all preached the same message, that's to worship one God who has no partner or equals and far is he above what they attribute to his greatness, I'm sorry that you are so deluded and influenced by the rhetoric in your society and or community, David wood is a liar and in denial simply because he does not want to lose his followers and fame from this life that deluded him and many other preachers who deep down know Islam is the Truth (please look up yusuf Estes who used to be a chaplain and reverted). You don't follow Jesus pbuh you follow Luke mark John and Paul. You don't have Jesus's true teachings as those were mostly lost and or edited by men well after Jesus pbuh was elevated back to God and saved from being cruely murdered for coming to remind the lost tribe of Israel to turn away from idol worship, they denied and called him a bastard (astaghfiruAllah) and a false prophet. Most of you who deny Islam simply do so because you are afraid or don't want to change your worldly lifestyle/culture as did the ones before you who altered the scriptures of the Almighty with their own hands for a cheap price in order to fit their wordly lifestyle (Allah speaks of such people in the Qur'an, whom if they keep in their blasphemy will inherit the hell fire on judgement day). Jesus pbuh says in the Bible "hear o Israel the lord OUR God is one". How can a God have a God!! Think! Rationalize!! Jesus pbuh did not want to be crucified he said “Father, if you are willing, please take this cup of suffering away from me. Yet I want your will to be done, not mine.” As Jesus prays in the Garden of Gethsemane, his first request is for his father to “take this cup of suffering away from me” (22:42) which means he never wanted to be sacrificed in the first place which also means that if you believe he was, then his prayer was denied by The Lord which makes no sense hence many of the confusions in bible. Please carefully read and ponder the following message as your salvation may very well depend on it: All the different books and bibles were gathered much after Jesus pbuh was gone (the main versions of today being the NIV AND KING JAMES) and the first manuscript known to have been found was well over a century later and was the size of a credit card, the bible is filled with contradictions and God is not the author of confusion. The Quran was revealed by God (Allah) through the Angel Gabriel (also known as the holy spirit) directly to the prophet Mohamed pbuh over 1444 years ago and established in his time and was memorized by heart before even being put into text and preserved to this day letter for letter word for word in its original Arabic language to correct/affirm the truth. Please don't blind follow and do some research, read the blessed Qur'an with an open mind. Islam calls to worship the one true Lord of the world's who has no equals and can not be imagined in this world. It even says in the Bible that God almighty can not be contained let alone in this world, also mentioned that no one can see God in this world and live. In Islam seeing God is considered the ultimate reward even higher than attaining paradise itself that's how holy the Almighty is considered and revearead in Islam. Christians are confused in understanding what God is and what God does. What God is is the owner of majesty and perfection and he is the Almighty Creator of the heavens and earth, he created death and life and his perfect attributes never change, GOD IS IMMORTAL HE DOES NOT DIE, what God does however, he does as he wills in his infinite wisdom, Almighty Allah is far above his creation and does as he pleases, Almighty Allah is able to forgive the sin of his servants through his infinite mercy by repenting and without any pagan like sacrifices let alone attributing partners or a son to the Almighty who is unlike his creation or anything that the mind can imagine that is the ultimate injustice/blasphemy to God and is a very grave sin (if one does not repent from it before death). Christianity is a word that came well after Jesus pbuh left as he did not call himself that and it was then heavily influenced by the roman pagan traditions of that time much after Jesus pbuh was gone, Jesus pbuh was not born on the day xmas is celebrated neither did he ever convey such a celebration which was man made (especially santa claus lol sometime in the late 1800s). Then the corruption and confusion in the bible began including the trinity which Jesus pbuh never preached and was added in 4th century, that's why you find many different books and gospels by so called men such as Paul who claim to have had "visions" and or "inspiration" from God, altered the true message that Jesus pbuh originally preached to the lost tribe of Israel and not to whole of humanity which was to worship one God as he said he did not come to abolish the law. Also the arrival of the prophet mohamed pbuh was mentioned in the bible as the paraclete which means the comforter the counselor, truthful one. I also wanna add that as Muslims we believe in and respect Jesus pbuh as a mighty prophet of God and was saved from his to be murderers and will return one day to affirm Islam, break the cross, kill the anti christ and deny the falsehood and lies that were unjustly attributed to him after his departure, we as Muslims worship Allah the way he wants us to worship him, Jesus pbuh use to fall on his face bowing down to worship God the way Muslims worship and (no offence) not sing or dance around etc.. Hope this helps clear thing's up and help's you at least do some unbiased research towards the truth before its too late as mentioned the blessed Qur'an "satan is a sworn enemy to the son of Adam so treat him as such and do not follow in his foot steps" satan the damned main mission is to lead astray as many of us as he possibly can to the hell fire. May Allah guide, forgive, bless, protect and keep us on his straight path. Ameen. I invite everyone to read the blessed Qur'an and the biography of the blessed prophet Mohamed pbuh.

I understand the point that some Muslim women who don't wear headscarves may excel other Muslim women who wear headscarves in certain areas of religiosity... but to say "the headscarf is a sunnah" is simply wrong. I'm all up for giving the Shaykh excuses and how the term "sunnah" can be used in a linguistic sense to mean "to follow a certain way" but in the context of his Shaykh's speech this is clearly not how he meant as he coined the term "wajib" and "sunnah" when explain the ruling of the beard. "We accept everybody" - yes we do Shaykh, but we also don't change the rulings of religion to suit everyone's sensitivities. Anyway, I hope this is just a "in the moment" blunder from the Shaykh and he retracts his statement.

@@nostalgicnyla5876 Wa'alaykumussalaam wr wb. If you are referring to the categories of Sunnan (i) al-Qawliyyah (sayings), (ii) al-Fi'liyyah (actions) and (iii) at-Taqreeriyyah (tacit approvals) then sure I can see how (iii) would make sense... however in the context of the speech it does not seem that was the classification used when the Shaykh said the "its sunnah to wear a headscarf", rather it come across as a juristic ruling of 'sunnah = recommended/mustahabb'. I say this because shortly before the segment on the hijab, the Shaykh used the term 'Sunnah' and 'Wajib' when discussing the beard...anyways perhaps I am wrong. I don't find any joy digging into these things but 'slips of the tongue' in a public lecture that is now on KZread for the whole world to see can cause confusion unless clarified/pointed out...especially from someone of Shaykh HY's repute.

I always did enjoy and benefit from HY talks but he's become 1 sided towards women in a country that already gives them more power than they need, namely to financially split a man in half simply because SHE wanted a divorce and so many women hold that over the heads of their husbands. Fact is that because so much is expected of men, they have nowhere to go in times of hardship, they're expected to "man up". There are so many men forced to live without their kids because their wives aren't happy with their financial situation and such many are lost into society. These such men need Islam more than anything because when a woman takes your money, kids, and mental stability at that point you'd rather die. Yes, Islam is supposed give reason to be patient but us men are not at the scholarly level of Iman to bear such burdens and most like won't ever be.

Idk what causes these "muslim" girls to cause the splitting up of families but it is women that invoke divorce more so than men. A poll in the UK says 8 of 10 Muslim divorces are instigated by women. 1. That's the UK and not us but if imagine it's close. 2. I personally don't think it's THAT much but I've seen many of those around me from all ethnicities where I believe women cause those split ups and for those who aren't divorced literally, they are spiritually. I don't even want to use the saheeh hadith to clarify my point because that's always rejected by women. And in regards to me being careful to who I marry, I never alluded to my personal situation so you shouldn't jump into conclusions.. or so it seems

When you mock or insult there's no point in continuing this discussion. My mom was victim to physical abuse by my dad for years. I know both sides of this topic very well. What I'm saying is that women, because of modern day western laws have taken matters to the opposite extreme. You don't seem to want to learn based on the attempt to shame in your response. It's no surprise to me that the ummah is in such a state. I'm Palestinian and I can say that although the "world" loves us there are many of "us" that don't deserve the love we receive but I know why that love is shown. And by being behind a "حجاب" it becomes easy to insult and mock the other as if we totally forget we're 1 ummah. Subhan Allah.. Alhamdulillah that Allah does in fact know what's inside our minds and hearts. I also know your trying to defend HY but know that you're doing a bad job at it with your dismissive attitude nor is he held accountable for your failure to understand him. I can still see a possible wisdom through his 1 side-ness in defending women in a country that takes such a stance to an extreme but as a scholar like himself he needs to address the extremes of the society in which he lives. In either case I really hope you relinquish any malice contained within you if it's there. May Allah guide us all

These are more than enough ground to not listen to this misguided Hamza Yusuf, unless you want to be misguided: Allah says in Quran, in Surah AL HADID (57:14) The hypocrites will call to the believers, “Were we not with you?” They will say, “Yes, but you led yourselves into temptations, you looked forward for our destruction; you doubted (in Faith); and you were deceived by false desires, till the Command of Allah came to pass.
