Shaykh Hamza Yusuf | Don't Be Manipulated or Triggered.

Beautiful and inspirational sacred message to learn how to control your emotions and not be vulnerable to the people who can use your anger for their nefarious means. Hope it will help us to make ourselves the more wiser, obedient and grateful muslim as Allah swt wants us to be Insha'Allah!
Here is another supplication about which Prohpet (s.a.w.w) said:
"Be frequent in saying 'There is no might or power except Allah' For verily, it is a treasure from the treasures of paradise"
-Sunnan At-tirmidhi: 3601
لَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِٱللَّٰهِ ٱلْعَلِيِّ ٱلْعَظِيمِ‎
"There is no power nor strength except in Allah, the Lofty, the Great".

Thank you for reminding us that we're always reacting rather than thinking. That's food for thought.

perhaps there should be more ideas on avenues for the protection of children from the thoughtless behavior of abusive parents. the parents are so powerful in our tradition that the children's emotional are often given a second tier by society at large.

Struggling with this issue for quite some time. It is this last ayat of Surah AlBaqara that keeps me going to reach this level of self control. I fail every losing control but I am hopeful I would achieve it in Sha Allah.

Jazak Allahu khairan, your brief talk has given me a lot to think about. Especially since a Muslim is suppose to encourage the good and forbid evil (or injustice), and stop evil with one's hand if one can or speak out against it. My life changed (not completely) but definitely for the better after I took my shahada, al Hamdullilah, and there is no doubt in my mind that part of the reason for whatever improvements I have made is the fact that I try begin or at least read some verses of the Quran everyday. As you often point out in your talks, we have so much information at our finger-tips that it can be difficult to decide what one should focus on. It is very easy to just settle on being entertained but then I think about the Hadith of Huthayfa Ibn al Yamaan (in Sahih Muslim), the beginning of which is "The people used to ask the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) about the good, and I used to ask about evil out of fear of it reaching me." I pray that Allah will continue to bless, guide and protect the Believers.

@@pearlsofislam798 yet he didn't make that distinction anywhere in this lecture. it can create the misconception that people being "triggered" are just people who are reactionary, when in actuality that term has been used in relation to PTSD and other mental health conditions. i think the full context of that word is very important in this case.

@@hushabyehum4805 i say this because mental health awareness is still quite poor in the muslim community as a whole, and i often hear etymology being discussed in a lot of lectures so that added context would have been illuminating considering how much the word has been bastardized. you can be educated and intelligent but still be misinformed, it's a little arrogant to assume otherwise.
