Fun fact during an interview Edgar Wright said that the reason he made Shaun of the Dead was because he wanted to show how the UK would deal with a zombie apocalypse since the UK doesn't have guns like the US instead we have melee weapons and acid Edit: Also Dianne actually survives the film it was revealed in a behind the scenes interview that Dianne climbed a tree to escape the zombies and after the apocalypse she goes to live with her mum in Birmingham

The guys nodding their heads in time at the beginning are people who've just emerged from a North London nightclub where they've been dancing all night on uppers, and so they are both exhausted and shuffling along, and still responding to the music in their heads.

Fun fact: When they see Mary in the garden the original line was "She's so pissed." But because pissed means to be upset in America, they changed it to drunk.

Bullets in a fire TOTALLY do that. Whst propels the bullet 7s the explosion of the gun powder. If the back is struck, it creates a spark inside to ignite the powder. However, fire works nicely too.

There are actually references to many classic zombie films in this movie, including "Night of the Living Dead," "Dawn of the Dead," "Day of the Dead," and even more modern movies like "28 Days Later" (e.g. the newscast at the end that says the theory of monkeys spreading the virus has been debunked, just before Liz turns the TV off). "Shaun of the Dead" is basically a love letter to the genre and a constant stream of references and homage moments. There are even references to zombie movie tropes (such as the fact that people in zombie movies never say the word "zombies" and, in this movie, every time someone says "zombie," Shaun snaps at them, "Don't say that word!"). And did you notice the shoutout to the classic "Night of the Living Dead" line, "They're coming to get you, Barbara"? When they're on the phone with Shaun's mom, telling her that they're going to come pick her up, Ed shouts into the phone, "We're coming to get you, Barbara!" As for why the protagonists (and everyone else) acted less urgently than you guys (believe you) might've, what you have to understand is that (1) it's a comedy, and (2) what they're playing off of here is the stereotype of the British national character. Brits are much more about keeping a stiff upper lip, not showing too much emotion (it's embarrassing), pretending things are fine when they're horrible and just getting on with it. Massive understatement is a key part of lots of British comedy. Also, guns are both controlled and not as big a thing in the UK as they are in America, so it makes perfect sense that many Brits wouldn't be super knowledgeable about firearms and almost definitely wouldn't have any. Their ineptness with the rifle, again, makes perfect sense. From a writing standpoint, it's a very tight script with almost everything that's said either foreshadowing something that happens later, coming true (though not in the way that it was meant the first time), or being called back. There are few, if any, wasted lines. And then, of course, there's the social commentary all throughout which adds a fun element.

Also, some of the music in this movie is taken directly from Dawn of the Dead. The original Romero zombie films are all great. Unfortunately many reactors onlee see or react to the first one, if they watch them at all.

So something fun to know Shaun AKA Simon Pegg did a 2 season TV show before Shaun of the Dead called Spaced. It was a over the top comedy about him living with his ex roommate Yvonne from THIS FILM. The premise was they pretended to be a married couple so the landlady would rent the flat to them. So when Yvonne showed up people who watched the show cheered when they saw her have a fun cameo in this show.

So fun thing to know if you played the special features on the DVD Diana LIVES! Theres a comic strip style mini video that shows answers to questions and Diana having realized she went into a crowd of Zombies wielding her dead boyfriend's leg decided to run up a tree and stay there for two days. Sadly she also ate part of his leg to survive and after she found out the zombies were taken care of she climbed down the tree and the military rescued her in a survivor sweep She then moved in with her Aunt and is still friends with Shaun and Elizabeth.

The context of this movie is its origins as an episode of the British comedy series Spaced in which the characters randomly faced a zombie apocalypse. The episode inspired them to make a movie with some of the same cast/characters and comedy style, which is why it is a comedy first, and has horror just as the setting. So those elements aren't fighting with each other as it isnt meant to be a horror movie, it is a dark and absurdist British comedy that pays tribute to many horror movies including the Romero zombie films and An American Werewolf in London. I've noticed that British reactors tend to get the vibe more than North American reactors which is understandable!

Shaun is more than just a zombie spoof, it's a love letter to George A. Romero, the godfather of zombie films. George was the first person outside of the crew that Edgar Wright showed it to.. he loved it so much he put Simon Pegg and Nick Frost in Land of the Dead. There are so many call backs to Night of the Living Dead (68), Dawn of the Dead (78) and Day of the Dead (85).. it's like Romeros Greatest Hits.

It's a sequel to Night of the Living Dead and Dawn of the Dead, and it also stars the best zombie in the world, Bud. "Would you do that for me, Cam?" "...Of coooouuurrsseee..." _I would put you down so fast, Zay._ 🤨 And Cam, you are absolutely not looking too far into it. There were many loving references to Romero's zombie movies. Frost did "Cuban Fury", in which he has to dust off his dormant salsa dancing skills to win the heart of an American co-worker. They started their assowith Edgar Wright in the British TV series, "Spaced", which is definitely worth a watch! It had 2 seasons, for a total of 14 episodes. Nick frost had another British TV show, called "Mr. Sloane", 6 episodes, that you might like.

I am a huge fan of zombie movies. I have been for most of my life. I saw this when it first came out, and despite having watched it dozens of times, I didn't catch the "We are coming to get you, Barbara" tribute until 2020. Not my proudest moment.

Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World is amazing. It gives you Scott Pilgrim vibes because it’s also directed by Edgar Wright

Zay totally gives me vibes of David Martinez from Cyberpunk Edgerunners. Maybe you guys could react to that show, it’s a mad hot anime rn.

Well since you liked this so much, you'll definitely like the film "Fido". And I might be a bit biased because I worked on the film, but it's pretty great :-)
