If she really wanted to structure the last 5% as advisory shares she should've asked Robert if he'd be fine with that during the due diligence process, not on-screen when he just went back in because he believed in her that much. Yes, Robert tends to get sensitive about these things but her timing and approach was way off.

It's so hypocritical. The sharks ALWAYS say you should at least make a counter offer as an entrepreneur - and hers was not unreasonable at all.
She not only didn’t “read the room”, she didn’t listen. Robert said, he didn’t want to negotiate but she continued to counter his offer, not once but twice!🤷🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️
@davidkaplan5517

she dropped her valuation from previous fundraising from 6M to 3M.... she was ok with taking a 50% haircut but not going even lower... her valuation was fair and she's better off without Robert who admitted he offers no value to the business. She got her commercial and she's brilliant so it'll work out. The biggest thing she didn't read the room on was Mark saying "there's too many calories" her counter to that was nobody can scale a business like I can... what she should've said was "this isn't supposed to replace a healthy food--this is supposed to be a dessert replacement that tastes really good and is made from good for you and nutritious ingredients. That would've gotten him back into the ring.

@ThangPham-xv9by

There’s a point of negotiating that you must realize its time to stop. If you can’t see it and just keep pushing anyway, you’re gonna lose the deal just like the girl here. The key is to read the room and recognize that point of negotiation.
Actually, it may not be that bad for her to miss out on Robert’s deal. If Robert cannot add any expertise or guidance to this business at all (he basically said that), then why should she reduce her valuation for him (keeping in mind that the $3M valuation she offered to the sharks was already 50% discounted off the $6M valuation she got when she raised funds last time). If her business doesn’t have a cash flow problem at the moment and continues to do well, I’m sure she can raise another $500K fairly easily at a favorable valuation to her.

Sometimes appearing intelligent and successful can cause you to lose out on help because people might assume you don't need it. A lot of stuff gets edited out but from what we saw it was indeed a really simple counter. It wasn't too insulting TBH IMO. I think Robert just offered out of FOMO or sympathy because she didn't get any offer especially from Mark but he then later realised that he didn't "really" want to invest so he found an excuse to go out again, kinda like how Barbara does. His heart wasn't there so he just wanted a reason to go out. I've seen way more intense and prolonged negotiations than this one. It's clear Robert didn't want to make a deal even at what he offered.

She's gonna be successful without them, she did good advertising it.
The reason you want a shark onboard is because you either can't get a good VC through the door or the shark adds more value than the VC in terms of opening avenues for the business to grow. The minute he said it's a pure financial investment, she should've said no. Already raised at a 6 Mil valuation, why agree to even a 3 Mil valuation with no strategy input? Stupid that she even tried to accept it in the end if you ask me.

When he went back in he made such a big deal about him going in for her then he devalues her company by not accepting her 10% offer? But in the end ROBERT was not acting right. She raised on 6M cap and came in giving the sharks a 3M cap thats a 50% discount! I feel like a lot was cut from this episode that would've added some context. Clearly somethings she did that were not shown led to Mark's "read the room" comment and Robert withdrawing his offer -it's not as if this is the first time someone has tried to counter the only shark deal they got.

You always negotiate though. Rob was just a dick. He was giving her 300k for 15% and made it clear that he wouldn’t help her in product decisions. But she had enough information from the sharks to know where to head towards next - if she can focus on getting the calories down (and making it a health food), her sales would boom even more. That’s what the sharks were getting at - they would have backed her IF this was a health product because health food sells. Her product was just carbs and fat with some health supplements sprinkled.
