Assym gloo works great but Vaseline have been used in assemblies for decades. It dissipates in any fluid and helps in assembly. Seal glide from Napa is a variant of Vaseline.

You make it look easy thinking of Turning my 4 wheel drive to a 2 wheel drive

Thanks for a great video. Been awhile since I’ve been in a 4l60e. Didn’t remember the output shaft like that. But I was rebuilding and reinstalling as is. Can’t wait for the 4l80e video 👍

Wow that’s more work than I was thinking but it seems doable… I already purchased and 4L60 that’s 2wd but I may hang on to the donor 4wd since I watched this video and give it a shot . Thanks guys.

It's really not too bad, especially with Jerry's special tool! Only $144.95! 😆 Plus, I was looking at 2wd output shafts and tail housings on Ebay earlier, and they're pretty cheap... around $100 including the seals. If you give it a shot, let us know how it goes!

Great video guys! If I had of known about swapping out the shaft from 4x4 to 2wd , I would have kept the donor transmission. It only had 48k miles on it.

After watching this, I've got a whole lot better understanding of how a 4L60E is put together, particularly that 2-4 band dowel. Every other disassembly video I've seen, the band comes out after the valve body comes off, and there are only a couple of assembly videos out there. That said, any major transmission work, I'm paying someone to do it.

The valve body is a ton of work, so if you have the patience to fiddle with that dowel, you can save a lot of time and headache. This is probably the video transmission guys don't want you to see! 😆 Thanks for tuning in, Rick!

Thanks for the video! If I use a 4x4 engine, ecu, fuse box and harness but use a regular 4L60E does the computer need different programming then normal to make the 4x4 stuff work with the 4L60E?

Hello Rod. It doesn't change anything with the computer. The only difference is getting the speed sensor signal from the transfer case is all. Jerry

In your case it should just be a matter of plugging it in on the 4l60e if your going to a 2wd. You shouldn't even have to mess with the wiring.

Do you have to install a Plug or remove aPlug in the back of the Transmission I Thought That also had to be done ?

Hello Ken. Not on a 4L60e. You do have to on the 4l80 and not sure about the 6, 8, or newer 10 speeds. Jerry

Wouldn't you also have to switch the hole plug at the tail section if swapping? The 2wd needs the one with the weep hole to allow fluid in the channel of the tail section back to the bushing and the 4wd has a solid plug.

@@UglyTruckExperience just was asking if I needed to put it in a older vehicle, that don't have a l s swap involved.. like my truck for instance..

So if a guy was ls swapping an old car or truck ,as long as he had a good assortment of tools and a clean bench it doesn't look all that difficult to replace a few worn parts. Maybe ill look for a donor.

@UglyTruckExperience That's awesome guys!!! I just got my block assembled. Got to order new valves for the heads. I'll be depinning the wiring harness I pulled out of a 09' Yukon for my swap. I just haven't decided whether to go with wire loom or the braided wire covering I keep seeing to finish wrapping it when I get done. Thank you for asking. I appreciate it.
