In China, the 20th Century was marked by dramatic social and political changes. It saw the end of the Qing Dynasty, the emergence of regional warlord governments, a Japanese military occupation, the Chinese Civil War and the founding of the People’s Republic of China. It was equally eventful in the fields of music, painting, drama and literature. Behind this transformation was a group of remarkable individuals, men who persevered despite national and personal tragedies. A new ten-part documentary series explores their contributions and legacies.

This was a spectacular program. Fascinating history of Chinese calligraphy. It’s so important that he preserved and enhanced appreciation of calligraphy and passed it along to future generations. Fortunately this traditional art form survived the cultural revolution and will live on.
One of the best documentaries (jilu pianmen) on this wonderful subject. Very fine indeed.
Excellent Story. Excellent Man.
This is fantastic, Thank you for posting.
Very interesting. I noticed that some of the captions refer to 'Shang Menghai' (e.g. at 17:10, "Son of Shang Menghai"). Is this a mistake or merely a variation of 'Sha Menghai'?

I am pretty sure that it is a mistake, since Sha is the last name and its spelling is unchangeable. Shang is also a spelling for a different last name

His name is not Shang Menghai. But his name is Sha Menghai (沙孟海). His surname is Sha (沙). Not Shang (商).
8:39-8:44 should be 米芾(Mi Fu) not 米蒂(Mi Di)
Why is there english closed caption on an english speaking narrator?
Close caption too small
