LIVE | HOW TO | Paint Japanese Shodo Calligraphy | Rie Takeda
🎬 Don’t miss this Domestika Live with professional calligrapher Rie Takeda!
🔥 Rie Takeda is an artist and professional calligrapher who was trained in Japan by her grandmother, a distinguished Gayu calligrapher. Her style, Neo-Japanism, blends classic and contemporary elements of Japanese culture. She has developed a method that teaches students how to concentrate on their own Qi (vital energy) flow and apply it to paper with brush and ink. In this Live, she will show you how to prepare your mind and your materials and paint a shodo symbol. To follow along, all you will need is: a water-based black ink (gouache or watercolor will do), a calligraphy or watercolor brush (the bigger and longer, the better), and paper (preferably fine calligraphy paper but standard drawing paper will do).
👇 If you have any questions about Japanese calligraphy, leave them in the comments and Rie will answer them during the Live!
If you want to learn the foundations of shodo calligraphy and Rie Takeda’s mindfulness-based practice, keep an eye out for her upcoming online course!

I have a frustrating experience. Not knowing where to begin or hitting a plateau can feel demoralizing and make it hard to hit the books and study like you know you should…Having friends from other cultures makes me more creative. In fresh ways about space and how people create their own world and environment. It is best way to connect between creative thinking and cross-cultural relationships!

I practice Chinese calligraphy and for several months i couldnt do a stroke the way it was shown in some pictures/videos. Last month i spent a whole day just doing that stroke and I eventually got it, not perfectly but it is very close now. Sometimes just spending more time is the solution but i also agree with you that different approaches can get you to reach a new level.
❤❤❤Thank you Domestika for interesting lesson. I’m from Lithuania and I would like to ask you some questions. Can I?
