My cat Maddie began showing signs of severe aggression toward people (everyone but me) around age one. For four years, I lived with this, and modified my life considerably to accommodate her. Then, when Maddie was five, she attacked me out of the blue, which resulted in an eight-hour stand-off where I was essentially trapped in my master bedroom. Following this event, I was extremely shaken up and sought help from a trusted vet practice, which let Maddie and I down horribly. What happened there was one of the most traumatic experiences of my life, and it ultimately ended Maddie's life.
This video is Maddie' story, along with some of the lessons I learned from this horrible experience. I hope that anyone dealing with severe cat aggression will feel less alone after watching this. As many vets have told me after the fact, this type of cat aggression is not common but does happen - and when it does, I hope Maddie's story may shed some insight into what to do (or not do)
