    If you want to knit the pockets for the long cardigan in a thinner yarn, I would knit the first inch to inch and a half in the cardigan yarn before switching to give the visible part of the pocket a more cohesive look.

    For your cardigan, I would suggest a one layer pocket: you just need to knit the inside of the pocket (the «bottom» part) and sew it directly to the cardigan. Like that, you have one layer from the body and one lawyer for the pocket. I have made pocket like this before and it works. Hope my explanations are clear 😂

    I am glad for the stash bust spring exceptions because I found a yarn lot on Mercari of the PERFECT discontinued yarn for a cardigan I want to make that I just could not pass up and was like "this feels okay for this MAL? it's not a thrift store...but it's a thrift store spirit?" so I feel like the red yarn you got is the same, the spirit of the thrift store even if not actually from a thrift store

    To me, easy lace requires reading your knitting-just as you said-and that doesn’t come immediately. Lace takes a few patterns to really get the “aha” moment. Now that you’re much more experienced, I expect you’re much closer to that aha, so you might give your first project a relook. (Or just frog it and choose something else you really love now, a year later). I’m always rooting for you on your amazing knitting journey, it’s been so inspiring to follow along with you in your first year-plus!! 🎉❤

    You've learned so many techniques and are so adventurous in your knitting time. Well done! I have no idea how to figure out how much yarn you'll need vs how much is on the cone. Good on ya for knowing how to do the math. I'm only on my 3rd tee knit and it's been a learning curve despite spending the last 5 or so years knitting lace shawls. I've knit aran sweaters that are wool and knit flat and seamed but nothing as adventurous as you accomplish. These tees are for summer in CA and are in plant based or silk fibers. It makes a huge difference in knitting up. Well done on your stash busting too! You rock!

    As someone who has developed a love of knitting sweaters, it’s my practice to knit sleeves first. I know that knitting the sleeves first on your Sand cardigan is out of your normal, but I suggest you give finishing them a try before moving on. I find trying it on and getting the right fit for sweaters is dramatically improved when I knit sleeves first. Plus, I don’t have to save odd amounts of yarn for them not knowing how much I’ll actually use and I can give the body the length I desire knowing the sleeves are how I like them.

    If you mainly wear that terracotta korshavn cardigan as a blouse, I’d consider using a safety pin from the back just to the side of the top button on the edge side to reinforce that connection, as it seems the fabric is straining a little bit there (from the weight of the v neck opening, nothing about you), and that will help prevent it stretching out there over time. :)

    I love the plans for your stripe hype sweater. I think the pockets on the sand cardigan will probably be fine either way. Since the cardigan doesn't have any closures it will drape over your hips more so than be pulled taut and I don't expect it would make much of a difference. However, it you're very worried about it, I think a different yarn for the pockets would work just fine.

    Happy Saturday! Thanks for the info in your podcast (@2 weeks ago) about the yarn shop that was closing. I visited last week and was able to find 3 sweaters quantities of Juniper Moon organic yarn in wonderful muted colorways. The shop owner was great and I hope that she is able to sell everything! 🌞

    For the pockets I'd recommend using a lighter weight yarn, at a tight gauge, so there's no holes and increasing the stitch count. You don't want stuff falling through the fabric and you want to make it as stable as possible. You'd be surprised how much of a battering pockets take. However, I would use the noro yarn for the part of the pockets thats going to be visible and changing over/increase as needed after that, so have the noro yarn on the top part of the packet at the side against your body.

    I haven’t knit this sweater but I knit a similar long cardigan with an inseam pocket and the pockets did feel a bit bulky at first. It’s a worsted weight cardigan so that might also be part of my issue. It has minimized over time with wear, but I think if that’s going to bug you I would consider experimenting.

    This is exactly why I’ve posed the question-thank you for the insight! This yarn ranges from fingering to bulky depending on the thick and thin spot. Even a DK pocket might make things a little more streamlined. Thank you!!!

    I bet you could use a different weight of yarn for the pockets(fingering). If you picked up or increased to have the same amount of fabric, I'm thinking it would lay much flatter plus be more durable. Im not an expert, just opinionated. lol You could try a swatch and see if you liked it. I hope this helps! I look forward to seeing what you've acomplished every week and your thoughtful choices in your knitting. I find it really encouraging and helps me to keep knitting.

    Yup, you can use something different for the pockets. Cocoknits uses fabric. If you use fabric, I would still suggest something stretchy like jersey. If you look at quality Sewing patterns, you’ll see that. The 1st inch of the pocket is out of the fashion fabric. So I suggest you knit an inch with Noro then the rest of the pocket and separate yarn or jersey fabric.

    Just curious if you are using lots of stitch markers on your lace pattern… I’m not seeing them in the video, but maybe they’re hard to see. If you’re not using stitch markers, I would highly recommend placing a marker between one to two repeats of the lace pattern! It helps you catch your mistakes much faster, so you don’t find out that you’re way off after putting in a bunch of work.

  • @akaNoraKnits

    @akaNoraKnits

    Ай бұрын

    I had used them when I first cast on! However, the lace repeat is a sort of brick lay pattern, so the markers were more confusing than and fussy than helpful. Now, I’m using the YO as a mental stitch mark so I can recognize when they line up with the rest of the pattern and I can catch when I’ve made a mistake immediately after having done so! Just slightly more brain power than the stitch marker technique ☺️

    Hi Nora ... Another great podcast. I have a question about your sweater. You said that you are making a size 5 for the body and a size small for the arms. How does that work when you had to pick up stitches. (You might have explained it, but I did not get it) The reason why I am asking is because I think your solution regarding sizing might help me, also. Thanks in advance Jane

  • @akaNoraKnits

    @akaNoraKnits

    Hi Jane!! I think it’s a tricky one because the pattern has you knit the sleeve depth by a measurement and not by a certain number of rows, so the pick up rate stated in the pattern doesn’t necessarily work for everyone. I divided the number of stitches I wanted to pick up by 2, marked the halfway point in the sleeve hole, and made sure to meet that number by the time I hit the marker. I hope that helps!!

    Still watching but wanted to put my though here before I forget... You couod sew pockets? You may need to knit a whisker so it won't show... But also if you're going to utilize the pockets the fabric may be a smaller problem than you think... It also appears to hang freely (not tight fit) so you have that going too

  • @akaNoraKnits

    Oh no! Be careful to use mothproof yarn, older yarn is very toxic and here in Sweden it is classified as hazardous waste and must be handed over to a recycling center. You should always be careful when you are thrifting.
