The 2021 US Open main draw runs from August 30 - September 12 in New York City at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. The tournament takes place for the 141st time and is the fourth and final Grand Slam of the year. Dominic Thiem is the men’s singles defending champion but has withdrawn following an injury. Naomi Osaka is the women’s singles defending champion and will be aiming to claim the title for the third time in four years. Meanwhile, No. 1 seed Novak Djokovic looks to complete the calendar Grand Slam after winning the Australian Open, French Open and Wimbledon already this year. Should the Serbian lift the title here for the fifth time, he will also overtake Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal to become the first-ever man to win 21 Grand Slam singles titles. With full capacity crowds back again, it’s time for the greatest return!

The prodigies were Hingis, both Williams, Henin, kournikova, Clijsters, Dementieva, Myskina, Hantuchova, Mauresmo and of course capriati. I don’t necessarily include Sharapova oR Kuznetsova as They came later than those from the 90s

Oh, this is so well documented. So many times the "home crowd" would cheer on the "underdog" playing against both Venus & Serena - but when that same "underdog" played Lindsay, Jennifer, or even Monica - all of a sudden the home crowd was cheering on Lindsay, Jennifer, & Monica. V & S rose above it regardless. Only later in their careers did they finally get support from American crowds - after they'd beaten everyone who thought they would run them out of the game. 😂

@@Deadsexxy6669 People forget that the Williams sisters were hardly the first talented black tennis players to be on the women’s or men’s tour. However, they were the first ones to begin their careers with an arrogance that was a blatant turn off to most. I mean it’s not like Serena ever threatened an Asian lineswoman or made a multiracial opponent feel guilty and sad when she won her first major in 2018. She is an entitled piece of filth that feels she has the right to live by her own rules due to the color of her skin. Anyone who can’t see or admit to that fact should be ashamed of themselves. Serena’s accomplishments in the sport will always be tarnished by her abrasive demeanor that resembles that of a spoiled and very corrupt child.

This comment about 99-2004 as the best wta players I challenge you to agree to 1988 to 1995 as the best. Serena and Hingis would have struggled against Novotna, Vicario, Seles, Graff, Capriati, Fernandez, and Martina because those were still in their prime . Also played a clever style of tennis tournament. Same as Edberg, Chang, Becker and Johnny McEnroe. Those guys were the real box office. Like you say Serena was blockbuster alongside Venus, Hingis, Henin and Davenport but in my opinion played the final curtain in the debate of entertainment.

Both so young, beautiful and fresh. Occassionally, you'll get that slight, knowing smirk that Serena always has had. But Martina too. I agree with an early commentor that she sees Serena as a force to be reckoned with. A lot of wild errant returns that the Swiss Miss just didn't know what to do with, or completely couldn't catch up too. But I recognize a little of her arrogance that other players came to respect if not hate. The judges of tennis history make me laugh when they talk of her broad teeth-filled smile when she thought she'd been had or that she had gotten one past her opponent. Martina was a straight up cold killer at the height of her reign. I always think it interesting when they only gloss over her name but if you look at the numbers, she's stacked with the top 5 if not the top 10 all time. In so many ways, she was no nonsense, and she killed with a smile. She was special out of will and did her thing her own way, much like Serena. which is likely why they made such appropriate opponents.
