Serena after AO 2005 didn’t play Sharapova for 2 years and those years were Maria’s peak. 🤷🏾‍♂️ She had a win in 2008 Charleston, that was impressive as well but again, we were waiting for a rematch in Australia and Serena strangely lost to Jankovic 🙄 Serena is definitely great but I feel like she has chosen many battles over Sharapova because she didn’t want to lose to her no more after 2004.

When she beat Serena in 2004 and wrote in her book what she heard Serena said about her, that was her BIGGEST MISTAKE. 🐐 Goat made a promise and she kept it. "That B will never beat me again"

The court is green, the ball is green, Serena's dress is green. Grainy footage, no commentary, no score, can only understand very little of what the refree says, can't see the ball due to aforementioned reasons. What I could see was okay And, great job Serena. Serena was not to be played with this match. I remember watching this on ESPN, and when the cameras showed her coming out the locker room, I thought to myself that Serena is going to put on a show! And she did.

Serena "Sexy" Williams in my opinion had set out to just win....But at 22:02 Sharapova made a huge mistake, that caused her (purposely or not) that humiliation or "Epic Beat Down" she got! That too against Sharapova, it was very easy, but mentally for Serena, she climbed a huge mountain of racist doubt and stood triumphant. So proud of her - all while mourning her beloved sister. Amazing fortitude.

After their 2005 classic this final was a major letdown. I'm amazed that Maria never found a plan B after she started losing every match to Serena. At the end of the day, it seems her game was too one-dimensional to pose a long-term threat to her.
