Three unprecedented global shifts during the 21st century including climate change, demographic makeup, and the nature of allegiance in the digital age has left our nation at a crossroads on how it interacts with the rest of the globe in an international competition for power and influence. At the same time, the U.S. is also ideally poised to succeed in this new age provided it reevaluates its approach to globalization. That’s according to author Dr. Thomas P. M. Barnett in his new book, America’s New Map: Restoring Global Leadership in an Era of Climate Change and Demographic Collapse, which was the subject of the Center for Homeland Defense and Security’s September Alumni Hour held remotely on Thursday, Sept. 21.
