Selling My Most Expensive Piece Of Equipment For This, Rep Ares Review

Спорт

The Ares is Rep's most ambitious piece yet but how well does it deliver on it's huge promises?
Check out the Ares here gluck.fit/RepAres
Let's see how well Rep Fitness integrates a functional trainer, low row, and lat pulldown into your power rack with the Ares. I told Wynie if it delivers that I'd sell my most expensive piece of equipment for the Rep Fitness Ares Cable Attachment...

No doubt it changed things for me and others with a small home gym footprint (220sqft in my case). I would have without doubt purchased a Rogue Rack but knowing the limitations of the slinger (an afterthought solution at best) the moment I heard about the ARES I decided I'd make do with my Fitness Reality rack until the ARES was ready....now that I have my PR5000/ARES in place I'm so glad I did!!!

Nice! Glad you were able to finally get yours. Great review! I LOVE MINE!!!! (well now that I have the replacement parts) I put mine together by myself... 4hrs is unrealistic. I took my time unpackaging, inventorying, and organizing the parts. Then it came time to install the darn thing... which I was put to a halt due to missing plastic liners for one of the trolleys. Which took what seemed to be forever for me to received.

Love a good piece of engineering, especially one that allows multiple setups in a single space. And I think I'm one of the few people who would ENJOY putting it together. Unfortunately, due to my lack of a Rep rack and extreme stinginess, I don't see this in my near future. But it may be part of my dream build! (Their configuration wizard online is fun too!) Great video!

Mine is together. Next step is tightening bolts and running the cables. I do have a couple of holes to drill through a 2x4 cross tie in my gym as it is above the crossmembers, but in the way of the cable. I put it together with the rack since I bought both new. I set the Ares base where I wanted it and then bolted four columns to it and went from there. I do intend on moving it when we move unless the buyers give me a fair price. I will just take it completely apart. It is officially my most expensive piece of equipment, eclipsing the rack itself.

Something that I really like about Rep's business model is you do not save money by buying a rack compatible with the Ares and the Ares itself. You can buy the rack first, then purchase the Ares at a later time. Free shipping included on both purchases. This is what I've done and appreciated the flexibility Rep provided

I'm currently in a basement with low ceilings so I had to get a shorter rack. After watching this with several other reviews of it, we'll be getting the Ares in the new place. I'm debating getting the four post with spotter arms or going with a 6 post with safety straps. Still undecided, but this helps a lot. Thanks!

If I could ask a question I bought a pr4000 rack and I am storing a bunch of equipment. I am renting a house I could set up my gym in the garage for a year with the ares. Should I wait till I’m in my permanent house or is it crazy to set up and move it ?

  • @GlucksGym

You'd have to just take the weight stacks off, preferably you could move the rack (without the stacks) on a trailer with the rack still together. We've done it before with my R6. You could also just take it apart, It really wouldn't be terrible and you'd figure it a plan I'm sure. I couldn't wait that long 😂

Looks like a great space saving piece for most home gym owners. That specific functional trainer you have with 4:1 ratio, is going to be better for rehab purposes and speed training compared to the Ares. Mine is a 2:1 ratio with 160 lb stack so wish that was heavier but I’d never sell it.

Really cool concept and it has useful applications. I personally have adequate space for a full and half rack, functional trainer, and separate lat/row. However, this would still be a nice replacement for even just the functional trainer since you still gain nice flexibility (ex: another place to use rack attachments). The need to bolt the 4 post version is one of the biggest downsides IMO. Cheers

4:1 ration on the stacks for your Lifefitness FT sounds good and is impressive. I have a cybex bravo 450 tall model 2:1.. It has a unique design and a adjustable stability pad I don't see the Ares replacing it completely it's just too versatile. It could replace some of what that FT does but not all... having a heavy duty big weight stack rack FT combo is very compelling...

Great review. These are great, but not the game changer so many seem to think as competitors have had these systems for years. REP is just the first of the big 3 to produce one, so many people were unaware of their existence until now. If I was going to spend this much, I'd probably just go spend a bit more on Prime's Prodigy HLP selectorized rack. Still, if you have the space I think the standalone options are still a better choice, especially if you have more than 1 person at a time working out in the gym.

Waiting for isolator too. I tought about combining all the pieces into ares but i dont know if i will like it since it will be hard for my wife and i to workout togueter. We do different workouts. Also i like to superset a lot and dont wanna be moving all kinds of stuff around for the next exercise. Somebody else told me its hard to supperset in ares🙄🙄

In the 4 post configuration, if you use the Gym Pin D-Handle on the front uprights (from the "Flex Marks The Spot" review) would you still be able to use the standard low row footplate or is it too short to get the full ROM?

I've got that attachment just didn't put the b roll of linking those in there, think I used my other bar to link the two. I'm not sure how tall you are but with legs flat and your back angled back slightly you can get a full range of motion with the plate all the way out but that's at my build. You could prob drill another hole in the low plate to get it out another inch or two

They need to make a bench that can be used in the incline position in it. I had to get a very specific bench to work in my old rack with lat pull-down in it. None of the modern benches match that style.

I appreciate this review and you are lucky to have received the REP Ares system. It is difficult to afford for the common person. On another note, what is so expensive in recording a video and uploading it?

  • @GlucksGym

There's nothing inherently expensive about recording a video and uploading it but the camera, software, and tech can get expensive. The real expense with a channel like this for a smaller channel like mine is we purchase a lot of the gym equipment ourselves for the reviews so it really adds up.

Hi Gluck. Due to bad space constraints, i was considering a 6 post 16"+16" PR5000 with the Athena or the Ares. Do you think 16" is really too narrow for squats bench press etc.? REP does not sell 24" for the PR5000 (only PR4000) and 30"+16"+9" (thickness of 3 uprights for a 6 post) would take too much space. At the end of the day it relies on gravity so it should be a straight line? I am training alone

For me personally it would be very tight and with the cables in the back (if the trolleys are up) you'd loose another inch or so. I'm sure people have pulled it off but you'd have to be pretty steady in your walkout and careful in your exercises. In reality I probably only us 12" or so but I've never really had to test that since my shallowest rack atm is 30"

Can the selectorized lat pull down attacent be used on a 4 post pr5000 16" rack? They are selling me a 16" 4 post pr5000 with a pair of sorinex jcups but no pull up bar for $600 but is like 4 hours away.

  • @charlesmilligan3501

With the 41" 6-post Ares, could you turn the bench around 180 degrees and have room for incline presses with j cups on the inside of the front posts? I think I may be trying to fit a square peg in a round hole here, but I'd really like to incline inside the rack. If not, then the 30" would be the way to go.

  • @GlucksGym

I don't think you'll have enough space especially with racking and unracking since the Ares takes up the space where your legs would go. I'd use spotters outside the rack for incline.

2 differwnt questuons...Iam thinking of selling my titan selectorized lat pull down and my titan x3 wall rack to get pr4000 with selectorized lat pull down attachment. What do u think combining the 2 in rack?? Are there any downsides/disadvantages of having lat pull down inside rack. I was going to get ares but I workout with wife and we do differwnt workouts so if iam using rack it seems I will be using the hole gym:(
