Seiko Metronome Watch for Musicians | See How It Works! In-Depth Unboxing SMW006
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Have you ever seen hands that move like this? The Seiko Metronome Watch has two separate motors that drive the handset in this unique quartz watch customized for musicians. In this in-depth unboxing I'll show you the smooth, fluid, back-and-forth sweep of the minute hand that doubles as a metronome pendulum. There's even a reference tone for tuning! Oh, and uh...the watch displays the time of the day! This JDM Seiko can be found on eBay.
Thanks to @lookatwrist for being the first to uncover this Seiko JDM gem here on KZread. Check out his video titled "There's never been a Seiko with hands that move like this" : • There's never been a S...
The watch featured in my video is Seiko reference number SMW006A. There are several different color variations, but I found this one to match the overall music theme; black on white, like printed sheet music.

Wow, what a fantastic time piece! Not for me even though I’m a musician (guitar player) but undeniably a unique and niche tool watch, and the white dial!!!! The metronome function the way the minute hand becomes the metronome is definitely one of the coolest things I’ve seen on a watch
@WatchWitt
Жыл бұрын
Yes, it’s sort of a novelty for musicians, as most use apps now a days. BUT it’s useable. Almost like dive watches are useable but not practical anymore with dive computers having advanced so much. The swing of the pendulum/hand in metronome mode is awesome!
Thank you for actually playing the tuner tone😊 incredible how many reviews just skipped the whole thing

It's pretty quiet on video...I had to jack it up!
I just placed an order for a navy colored one, SMW004A. I'm so excited! 😆 The only thing that would make it cooler is if it vibrates and muted. That'll be a nice way to keep pace while playing. Almost feels like a cheat code 🥁🥁
@WatchWitt
Жыл бұрын
Oooh, yeah vibration might be cool, then (depending on instrument) you could play with it on. This feels like more of a practice tool than performance, though, as it should be. It does mute, by the way.
Very unique. The more I look at it the more I like it!

Yeah, that’s why I added that watch nerds would probably want to pick up one of these. Just one of those unique pieces, as a collector.

Very unique and the dial looks clean despite the many markings.

Yeah, not too busy for all that print. That’s probably why the main dial is minimalistic.

Musicians seem to admire this piece, with or without practicality to them. I think it's equal parts functional and novelty!
Quite classy. Really fun. Have to admit, I want one. And I want one for my son.

Ah…I see now. It’s because the hands are motorized (like in this one) and dance around to wherever they need to be on the dial, due to function setting. Pretty cool! I had never seen one…
Man that is an awesome Seiko 👌

Even if you don’t NEED a metronome or tuner, it’s still a cool little watch and fun to play with.
Mine just arrived today. Thanks for showing me how to set the time 😂 I couldn't figure it out

You didn’t get an instruction booklet under the display insert? I just took a guess, ala G-Shock protocol. After the video I skimmed through it. Might even be able to sync this to the second, as I remember it saying something about starting at :00 seconds once you confirm the time is set.

Apparently Seiko makes traditional and digital metronomes as well. The bigger question is, can we see this motor technology in a traditional three hand quartz? That would be awesome! My guess is the battery would fry from the second hand sweep, and/or motor burn out.
Wow great size for my small wrist. I can't never go more than 43mm, lug to lug wise.

Very comfortable and great looking for smaller wrists. I feel like they chose these case measurements so that the watch would appeal well as unisex.

this one is cool!! they should've included a longer strap tho lmaoo
@WatchWitt

It’s VERY cool! Longer strap may have been better, but it’s really more well suited for smaller wrists, which would solve the strap length issue.
Like it! But the price is 2000$ in Norway.

Ouch. I would buy a digital metronome and strap it to my wrist before that!
Honestly, looks fine on your wrist. Smaller watches are better.

Thanks for the affirmation...I have a hard time with smaller watches. In the end, I think it comes down to personal tastes. Same for big watches on smaller wrists. If you love it, wear it! Ha!
Hi, had this watch for about a year now and I just ran into a little trouble with the watch. When I'm using the metronome, the hand doesn't oscillate symmetrically and when I switch to the tuning mode, the hand doesn't lie on the right pitch. If anyone has this problem and solved it, please let me know!
@WatchWitt
7 ай бұрын
Haven't had that problem yet, but I'm going to guess the battery is too weak to propel the motors correctly. Do you use the metronome and tuning features frequently? A fresh battery is the best/cheapest process of elimination!
that silver would look great on a milanese bracelet

Hey! does it pulse if the sound is off?
@WatchWitt
Жыл бұрын
No. I think that would be very useful, obviously depending on which instrument you play, though.
Does it vibrate?
@WatchWitt
3 ай бұрын
No, it doesn’t. That would be helpful, depending on which instrument you play, but probably a battery drainer and the function would make the watch bigger too. So, just sound and/or visual reference.
can someone explain to me, why only Amajor and Bminor as options ? And its confusing why you wouldnt be able to move in single bmp movements ?
@WatchWitt
Жыл бұрын
Well, I can't speak from a music expert standpoint, but I think the limitations are because it's a watch...not a sophisticated electronic metronome. Only so many features translate with the limited size, button functionality, battery limitations, and visual real estate on the dial. I think it's a compromise of form and function.
@yaersacks5277
11 ай бұрын
Also in normal metronomes you change the BPM in 3s the reason is that's the limit our ears could hear the difference between

Monotone color is just about completely sold out and increasing in price on eBay.
@WatchWitt
Жыл бұрын
Yeah, I think this is the color that best matches the function. You have to be careful on eBay as well. This is the second one I bought. The first seller (lower price) said there was an “issue” with the watch and asked me to cancel. So I placed this order with a seller that had previously sold 10 or 12 of the same watch. And it actually arrived very fast via FedEx.
How any sensitive musician can tolerate pitched (beeping) metronomes baffles me. It's pitch information (i.e. it produces a musical note) and interferes with the music. Wood block sounds or simple clicks are far superior.
@WatchWitt
Жыл бұрын
I agree. But I think this is more of a novelty watch. I mean, it works for its intended purpose, but I'd rather rely upon the visual of the pendulum than the tone.
Very Max Billesque

They're hard to find, so the price is going to vary. I paid $210 USD. Pretty steep for what it is Watch-wise, but there's nothing else like it AND it's Japan Domestic Market only, so a premium is to be expected.
