@@Crackthud23 That simplistic view doesn't hold up in practice. Setting the minimum wage too high causes inflation. A reasonable one doesn't. My state increased the minimum wage years ago. A few border cities have some trouble filling unskilled jobs. Otherwise, no problems. I pay the same here as I do 8 miles away. They have the national minimum wage. You think they wouldn't undercut if they could? California had too many of those go well, and they thought they could just keep raising it. Uh, no, it has to be the right number for the economic strength of the businesses. As for regulation, well-considered laws keep prices down. It always helps to prevent monopolies, price setting, and other antitrust behavior.

Corporate big profits is what is keeping prices high ,not the government.

Fuel prices here are dropping, at time in the year when ordinarily they're rising due to summer driving season. Will Biden get credit for that? Not if you listen to conservative media. Also look at long term oil prices. They rose significantly before and after the 2020 election, but have been slowly dropping on average ever since. However again if you listen to conservative media any price for gasoline above $1 a gallon is Biden's fault.

Trump loves to say tariff, but sadly Trump does not explain what a tariff is and most of his supporters do not know that a tariff increases the price on the product that is placed on, so it ends up costing consumers more for that product. So if you have two of the same products but one is domestically made but the cheaper one is from another country its meant to even out the prices but the consumer ends up paying a higher price to protect the domestic manufacturer of their product, it does not help reduce COST.

I definitely know its gouging. It was supply and demand during the pandemic that raised prices because products were becoming scarce due to productivity and transportation personnel and shipments. Including hoarding. Those prices have NOT come down ! There is no reason for that now that the process of shipment, employees, transportation and product are widely available and easily shipped. They should have came back down. They did NOT. Companies like those profits. Look at what you spent during the pandemic vs now.

Higher prices are from CEO salaries 200 times the average worker's at their companies. Cut that to just 25 times the average, and prices would go down.

DOJ needs to make a big deal out of going after greedy corporate price gouging! TRY THEM IN PUBLIC. Make it a weekly press conference held in grocery stores, congressional hearings, and courthouses exposing the facts about the post pandemic greed that's driving the cost of food up. Also show that it's going on in other countries too.

I wish Americans would take a simple economics 101 class. They don't know how capitalism works. Low unemployment, high consumer spending, and businesses booming (plus a high stock market) = high inflation. Higher unemployment, slow business = low inflation. That's why they actually like unemployment at about 6%. That helps keep inflation in check. Unemployment is about 4% right now. The more people working, the more they spend, and booming business, inflation goes up because businesses will charge more. This is econ 101. Sorry, but that's how capitalism works. Biden has nothing to do with it. Notice he said jobs, wage, stock market are doing well. In capitalism you have to take the good with the bad.

The main result of capitalism’s dependence on “growth” seems to be the devaluation of money. A potato or gallon of milk has a constant real value. When the price goes up, the product is not worth more. The money is worth less.

huh? gee that was so many words.. I'm greedy and sad and stupid so I worship the orange god-turd. he is so strong and he will make America great !

I live on SSI and nothing else. So money was tight. I got rid of the vehicle so no more payments, insurance, and repair costs. I happen to live on a city bus route that runs every 15 minutes. And the bus allows for 2 wheelchairs. I have an electric one. As a Veteran I was given an electric scooter. So I still go shopping and have a lot more money to buy food. I cut it close on the budget but I manage. The cost of foods have risen since COVID 19 but I am seeing a shift of lower prices at the store and I don't eat beef every day either. When you have so much money to work with and the rent is high and cost of electric increased It doesn't leave me much but I opt for foods that is well within my budget. I don't have kids to feed either. I am voting for Biden. He has done a tremendous job of turning things around. Trump would not have done this. So many people have brought up the issue of gas prices that Trump had lowered them. I tell them that Presidents don't control gas prices, wall street does. They wanted to argue that point too. That is how misinformed these Trump supporters are.

Politicians in red and Southern states are responsible for keeping wages low where people fall further behind inflation. The last time the federal minimum wage was raised was 15 years ago to $7.25/hr. in 2009.

I went to a Kroger in a wealthy neighborhood and encountered $9 per dozen eggs. I opened the carton to look at them and the shells were this crazy faint blue color. They were apparently free range, laid by a special breed of chicken, and had a high beta caroteine diet so that they would have dark orange yolks... Now imagine this, but with grapes.

I had the “cost” discussion today… reminded my friend record profits reported by big oil,corporation and multi million$ CEO salaries. I asked him where do you think that “Profit” comes from while the size of the product you buy goes down but you pay more.. Crickets.

Things are doing better in the US than pretty much any other 1st world country, but you would never believe it if you just talked to the locals. Their media has them convinced that it has never been worse. Meanwhile, the UK, France, Germany... (list goes on)... are all amazed by the growth in the US economy post-COVID. Leave the country for a while and you'll appreciate what we have.

Most foodstuffs I'm buying have risen about $1.50 per item. Some went up $2. Now some are coming down about .50 cents. But rent has gone up much further than my food and has caused a lot of people to become homeless here. I've been looking at houses for sale, and I can't believe some of the homes in my rural county have an asking price of almost $500,000, and they aren't worth being cattle sheds.

Economy is well when people are buying 85 inch televisions!

I live in a swing state where feeding my family has nearly doubled since the pandemic. I do not blame Joe Biden. I blame corporate greed. REPUBLICAN coporate greed. Joe’s got my vote!

If it's so bad, why are restaurants so full of people, why is the drive-thru at Starbucks always 6 cars long, how are so many average people still able to buy plane tickets and go on vacations, how are people able to pay for multiple streaming service subscriptions and go to $12+ movies, pay for dog clothes and for people to walk their pets and and and ? I don't get it. Maybe if people stopped throwing their money away on non-essentials they could save up the money necessary to buy a house. Or 2 for that matter.

Americans should keep in mind that all countries are doing it domestically economically tough since the pandemic, many worse than them. However if you travel to another country the exchange rate for Americans to most countries is very very, favourable, compared to travellers going to America! Your democracy is more important at this point, because if you lose it there is no going back under a dictator.

How much convenience can we afford with corporations sucking up all disposable income. If such income is not there to begin with. If you can't afford it, don't buy it. This is how one fights inflation. Paying attention to prices before putting items in your cart. Send the message, no to the food industry. But I believe some people would rather die than be without inconveniences. Those people willingly drive up the costs. They can go to high markup stores and not look at the price before they throwing items in their cart. President's have limited power. If they exceed their power they get impeached and in the end they get removed from office.

Stop it. I'm 65. I'm homeless. Employers don't want a college-educated 65-year-old male. I live in a motel because moving to an apartment is financially impossible. When anyone says "things are good" they are not speaking for EVERY individual on the planet. They are speaking as a reflection of the data. Now, there are MANY data points that define what "are good" - as Ari said, "there are many indicators...". He never said everything is good. There is nuance to everything. It's not a black and white issue of whether things are "good" or "bad". Too many variables and too many individual experiences. For example, 48% of people say things aren't look good in the economy; however, simultaneously 72% of people say things are good for them.

The big disconnect as I see it is that when President Biden talks about the economy he is talking about high-level numbers like unemployment figures, inflation levels etc.... (which are good at the moment) but that means very little to the average person in middle America who is now paying 30% more on their weekly shop than they did only 4 years ago.
