I believe EVY was chosen for the position she had in the Secret Service because of her personality was that, she wasn’t looking for power, she wasn’t trying to outshine everybody else, she didn’t want it. What better person to have it.

I’m 24 minutes into this interview and have already learned new things from her. The magic of Mel Robbins, y’all. Looking forward to the rest of this discussion and will be saving to watch again ❤

Yes she definitely has shown that she admires or looks up to in awe to people who appear to have strength and confidence. For me, it's not necessarily confidence that I am seeing displayed with this guest. What I see is someone who is convinced or confident in what it is that she's saying. She's confident in the information that she's providing. I wouldn't suggest reading so much into someone's personality based upon one interview.

I have adopted this mantra of “handle your shit” since in my early 20s. While it has been challenging to see it, clean it up and move on, it has propelled me through things I didn’t think otherwise I could move on from. Thank you for the reminder Evy and Mel.

I live by a similar ethos. I used to whine and moan about stupid shit while not doing much to better myself. I was doing more talking (more like indulging in self-pity) than doing. It's fine to talk about problems as they arise, but you have to take action and move on.

So much truth, even just about halfway through it. Politicians do that thing where they don't answer the question but speechify for a few minutes about distantly related accomplishments they want accolades for. And I love the advice to just pull out of the relationship without announcing it and without calling out the person. No need for that drama. Just go on and be happy. You don't owe them that, and they don't owe you whatever satisfaction you would get from calling them out.

My favourite points were "don't make it about you" in relation to off body language. Great interview. I love your honesty and vulnerability, Mel, especially when you shared that Evy came to talk directly to you. It's not our gut that we need to listen to most of the time, but rather, we need to risk not being liked by the decisions we make. We don't like to go through emotional pain or discomfort, so we ignore our conclusions and hope things improve without risking disapproval. Alternatively, we seek validation of our intel from others to shift the burden onto them, avoiding responsibility. So, what should we do? Trust our conclusions. If we make a mistake, we can always apologize. Risk not being liked in the moment. We won’t die, and the relationship probably won't either. Relationships are built on conflict.

Wow and wow!! I was riveted to this podcast from beginning to end. Evy is great. Mel, you're great. This helped me tremendously and I'm glad I listened to what you had to say at the end. I will share this with others!

Got it. All business and no warmth, intimidation, no bueno. Alternately, all warmth and little business, doormat, also no bueno. Piece of cake.

This is awesome, Evy is fantastic!! I love learning about this stuff!! Jan Hargrave is another amazing body language expert. I have to do a search to see if you have interviewed her in the past.

Excellent interview. It connects well to attachment theory. Having a secure attachment style supports Evy’s advice about having relationships with others.

Love Evy, seen her on several shows and eventually bought her book. If you have serious life experience, good instincts and antennas, able to read the room, guts and disipline I guess a lot of what she describes would be applicable to complete a good foundation to master your surroundings. On top of that obviously comes brilliant training.

20:15 Gut instinct, being able to read a room and non-verbal cues/micro expressions in the first 10-20 seconds is a great predictor of overall behavior & mannerisms. I love Evy's advice on: feel the energy in the room, pay attention and don't call a person out just read the cues.

With eye contact I do not look much into peoples' eyes when I talk to them, only kids, because of my upbringing, I start analysing facial expressions and their eyes. Do they look bored, what do they think about me or what I am saying etc. So I agree that reading people is often simplified

This is so true. I kinda got this feeling that my dad was not being honest about losing his life savings and having multiple loans which he cannot oay off now, our house is mortgaged now btw. He truly behaves the way you said a lying person does: the fleeing stance, evasion of the question and voice raising! So just more confirmation for me. Now what?
