Did you report the police to the police? I went into SPD West Precinct to ask for some advice on this annoying Hellcat driver in Belltown. They rolled their eyes several times at me. This Hellcat driver had been waking up literally thousands of people every night at 2 am cruising through downtown, often times even going 60 mph. It took Bob Kettle's office reaching out to SPD for them to take it seriously. Im pro police and think they play an important role in the community, but holy shit SPD has a long was to go to gain respect. Unreal.

Is the cop trying to save face by asking why you aren’t in the bike lane or do they really think cyclists can only use the bike lane? What about the illegal right turn? I think they need to have lights on in order to do stuff like that. Likely was not an emergency because they rolled down the window to talk to you.

I'll admit that because I'd made this lane change this way hundreds of times before without issue, perhaps I entered this situation with a faulty assumption that cars nearby me would correctly assume where I would be placing myself. BUT: as was taught to me in driving school: "you cannot assume that anyone around you knows your intentions. Be ready for them."

Stirred up the hornet's nest with this one. Mind you, cycling always does.. Is it my imagination or is the cop straddling the lanes or even all the way in the right turn lane at the first intersection? Hard to tell with the fixed camera. How did they intend you to turn left up there, anyway? Does the cycle lane get a green period before the car lanes, or do they expect you to cross, stop on the other side, and gun it over when the lights change?

I guess a stop sign is more of a suggestion to entitled bicyclists in Washington... It was the cop's turn if you actually obeyed the stop sign just like the cop did. Then you decide to cut across the intersection before clearing it creating the incident. Had you just yielded for 2 seconds you could have continued on. Instead, you tried to play F Around/ Find Out with a SUV on a bicycle. Right or wrong, you risk death or never walking again by being aggressive on a bike...
