Wrong Turn in Seattle ( Zombie Land ) 🇺🇸

I visited Pike Market in Seattle to try out all the foods in the market. Shortly after I took a stroll a few blocks down on Pike street and 3rd when I encountered countless homeless people on the streets consuming various substances. Some even with their children right next to them while inhaling toxic fumes. Police in the area do nothing about the situation while locals living there just walk through the downtown streets like nothing is happening.

boycott Starbucks for its pro-Israel stance. It took this stance even after 6000 Palestinian children were slaughtered and it hasn't corrected its position, even after the world's highest court judged that Israel is plausibly committing a genocide. I know you didn't go into that starbucks, but wanted to let everyone know to buy local and support organizations that have some human decency

As someone from Seattle, yeah the cost of living has skyrocketed, especially with the cost of groceries rising recently, I have friends who can barely afford groceries, and they have decent jobs. The other thing that aggravates thins is that there are a lot of services for the homeless in downtown, like soup kitchens, and lots of hospitals as well, so when people become homeless they flock there. However the homeless shelters often only allow one backpack worth of stuff (so the'd have to get rid of all of their belongings) and don't allow pets, and you have to basically sleep on the floor in close proximity next to another person who could be a creep or a criminal or something, so most people choose to sleep outside in a tent where it's relatively safer. Also as mental health facilities outside of the city get shut down, people come to Seattle for healthcare and then get stranded. It's a complicated situation. The cost of living and covid put people on the streets, then some fall victim to drugs or violence. Then the homeless say there because there are some services that help take care of them that don't exist elsewhere. But even with the help most can't get a job that pays them enough to afford housing and stability. And once someone is homeless for a long time, no matter who they were before or how hard they tried to get out of their situation, eventually it wears people down to the point where they can't get out themselves; learned helplessness. Also as a native though I have to say that Bellevue and Kirkland are NOT Seattle. You should have gone to West Seattle!!! Also Ballard and Fremont and Capitol Hill. There's some really beautiful and interesting neighborhoods in Seattle, with better food and culture. It's unfortunate that you saw so little, a part of the reason I think is that our "downtown" area isn't like the downtown in most cities; it's the financial/business district, there's not much going on there it's just where people work, and where tourists go. But newcomers often think that downtown would be the best most interesting place to be.

The homeless started sliding into Bellevue around 2013. Generally they were pretty invisible, one every 10-20 blocks. Then the methadone clinic got set up on the eastside. Seattle got tired of the homeless being shoved onto them. So now, we have a men's shelter/transitional housing in Bellevue, women and children up in Kirkland. The poverty and homeless issue should have been taken care of in the 1950s. Reaganomics really buggered up life for the middle class.

I was born and raised in Seattle. I used to do graffiti on these exact streets every single night from about 11pm until the sun came up. This was in the 1990's, 3rd Ave has ALWAYS been like this. Since at least the 90's. Always drugs, always homeless. It has definitely gotten worse, that's from policies that decriminalize public drug use, allow homeless to camp on sidewalks, mass influx of population in the two thousand teens (Seattle population had record new citizens 3 years in a row, population grew by about 40%) and policies that supported homeless with money and support that caused a mass influx of homeless with drug problems. This is the same thing you see in Portland, SF and LA for the same exact reason. Nobody was successful and became homeless from a temporary struggle. That guy claiming 3rd Ave was safe in 2008? LOL. 2007 and 2008 were two of the most violent years on record in downtown Seattle up until that point. Most homicides in one year ever in Seattle. Tons of robberies and assaults those years. Lack of police, lack of enforcement and extremely tolerant government policies is the reason for what Seattle currently is.

The captivating video you've shared underscores a pivotal truth - the challenges faced by cities like Seattle and Portland are intricately linked to the policies in place rather than a mere lack of financial resources. The Pacific Northwest, abundant in prosperity, is beckoning for astute leadership and innovative policies to restore the luster of cities now grappling with the consequences of misguided governance. This video sheds light on the pressing need for a paradigm shift in political strategies and the reconsideration of long-standing leadership choices. Despite the region's financial affluence, the cities find themselves ensnared in a web of detrimental policies, and the perpetuation of this cycle is attributed to a recurring selection of leaders who may not be steering the urban landscape towards a brighter future. The call for change resonates through your observations, emphasizing that the key to revitalizing these beautiful cities lies in the hands of the electorate. The importance of advocating for and embracing leaders with visionary policies cannot be overstated, offering a transformative alternative to the status quo.

Wow, good to see you in Seattle. You’re a long ways from all the interesting places you’ve been to. Yes, other than the Pike Place Market, Seattle has nothing to offer tourists - and locals, anymore. And that’s not saying much. Like most big cities, it’s changed for the worse. I moved up here in the 90’s and lived downtown, worked downtown - absolutely loved living downtown for a few years before moving over to Kirkland. Your video, showing what has become of downtown Seattle, is sad and depressing. Seattle was NEVER like that. It was a thriving, fun… great city to both work and live in. Walking from Queen Anne to Pioneer Square to Capitol Hill, all over the city, was always safe and fun when hanging out with friends. The bar and music scene, great restaurant scene, was thriving. But wow, your video shows a shell of a city. Completely depressing… times sure have changed. Without getting too political, Seattle is now, just like every other major city in this country - a cesspool. Drug addicts, homelessness, crime everywhere, cost of living, useless corrupt politicians who don’t do a thing but steal money and commit crimes themselves… zero answers to alleviate the glaring issues of their cities. The list can go on and on… but yes, realistically, it all starts at the top. This country’s leadership is beyond atrocious, beyond failing. Whichever party it is, they’re destroying this country. And it’s showing everywhere on our streets. There are many factors in play, but you see this crap in every city now. The clear results of horrible leadership - from political leadership to parenting in the home. It’s too bad you weren’t here in Seattle 20-25 years ago, lol, probably weren’t even born yet. Just know that Seattle used to be a great city to live in.

I visited Seattle in Sept. 2023. as my Son is stationed (Navy)across the Sound Poulsbro? anyway, I was there a week. Being from South Texas, San Antonio, It was a nice change of scenery. We don't have the Diversity of Seattle. It was nice to see other races, mostly Asian, India, etc. We are mostly Hispanic here in South Texas (Mexican Heritage) although, I did meet and speak to a few hispanics working in the Hotel from Colombia and Mexico. I visited the Pikes Place, Seattle Space Needle, rode the Light rail, and Monorail walked downtown by 3rd street saw the Zombies etc. I found the weather very nice, everything was Green, lush, a very expensive city. Would I like to live there? no, but it was a interesting place to visit for a week., people were friendly for the most part.

I've lived in Seattle for 44 years. There are pockets of areas that are really bad especially in downtown Seattle. Most of the surrounding neighborhoods are clean and very expensive to live in. Kirkland is one of the better managed cities. Most homes in these neighborhoods are unaffordable unless you're making over a shit ton of money.

This basically sums up all major American cities. The affordability level differs from city to city, but the concept is the same. Many Americans will call an entire major city a "shit hole" because the news portrays it this way. In reality, it's only a small percentage of the city as a whole. I love how the people who have these opinions live nowhere near or have never even been to these cities. There opinions are solely based off a few short segments they've seen on the news or twitter.

@@The_El_Guapo Agreed. Crime, poverty, and drug use is not unique to just Seattle. You can find these elements in any major urban city, even in cities down in South America where most of his videos have been made.
