Seating a stubborn tire bead, no special tools, no flame

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Seating tire bead on my trailer tire, avoiding the use of any type of accelerants or ignition.
Summary:
-lubed up tire beads with tire shine. Avoided using soap and water as it seamed to dry up quickly. Purely preference here, soap and water will work fine.
-set bead firmly on the face of the rim (side with valve stem). I did this by putting the old used tire under the new tire with the rim in it and jumping on it like a trampoline until the bead was uniformly secured in the face. Use caution when doing this as the tire shine or lubricant can make this slick.
-took out the valve core to allow more air flow during pressurization
-lifted center of rim and allowed pressure from air regulator to complement the weight of the other side of the tire to create a seal. I did have to push on the tire tread a bit to massage the bead over the rim.
-filled to recommended PSI, then quickly replaced valve core and refilled again for lost air.

Fail fail fail fail... Cut scene... Magically seated. Cool video

Didn’t manage to fully seat the bead by jumping, but it did seat just enough to get it to hold air and get the tire mounted after fighting it for a half hour. Thanks for the video. ❤

This worked great when my normal ratchet strap approach failed. One key was to use a larger diameter tire to set the new tire on while jumping. And then I flipped it over to begin to set the bead on the other side. Thanks so much.

You look like me jumping up and down on the tire to seat the front tire bead. But the second tire underneath is a go.I think i will try that.Thankyou very much.

Awesome tip about removing the valve stem to flow a lot more air. That worked for me after ratchet strap wasn't enough. 60 gal compressor at 120psi with the open valve and plenty of lube and it popped right up. Many thanks!

This did work eventually. It seats one side by jumping on it hard, then you can inspect the other side to push on the tire and close the gap enough (There's usually only one gap) to get the air going in to do the rest of the work. I would say however that you should then just let the air all leak out before trying to insert the schrader valve. Don't worry, if you have inflated it the beads are seated and won't come off. Then you won't risk shooting the little valve off in space, maybe never to be found again.

What an absolute life saver. I tried for a couple hours yesterday and may an hour today trying to mount a pair of 235 width tire on 8” wide rims. I tried in vain to seat one side (as I have done before) with a dead blow hammer. The jump in the middle of the rim did the trick. Then the lift the tire (or press down on the rim) and air up (thanks for the valve core reminder)

Another tip would be to put a ratchet strap around the tire tread and ratchet as tight as you can to expand the tire towards the bead. once the bead is seated then remove the strap.

This is exactly what I do with the tires on my snow blower. However I can't find a hole in the tire but it still goes flat and comes off the rim. No damage to the rim ideas would be great.

Do you think I should heat my tire up a little to loosen the rubber? I can't get the front bead to set one side will slide under the bead then the other side (of the front) will slide out

Meh, I tried the manual method for like 2 hours. Took me 1 minute with the flame and a kick. No issues except the injection mold hairs burned off. Which is probably fine. I would have loved to get it, but it fought every step of the way. I weigh 240 lb, and it wasn't enough to seat the first bead. 205/65r15 was the tire size.

With a car tire, for me worked better if I attempted to seat the "back" bead first using this method (i.e. jump into the deep well side), then blew the other one out, ex: kzread.info/dash/bejne/l4t7lpmSqc7Sg6g.html but then it worked, front first did not appear to...it did work by jumping with it on another tire, thank you!

Its amazing to think that people are so dull witted that they think a little bit of starting fluid going bang is gonna be catastrophic so they'd rather work way harder to achieve the same goal...

Yeah but some people go way past that sweet spot and we'll blow the tire right off the wheel, I've never done it but I've talked to people that have done it or have seen happen, it sometimes takes me three or four trees before I hit that sweet spot just because if it's too much you got a situation on your hands which might hurt somebody, namely me!
