Cool little tidbit: the reason Eris is able to help us so much in this season is because of the post-shadowkeep quests where we helped her face her own nightmares. And now she's helping the others do the same :)

In the lore Ikora went to the Leviathan and she too had a nightmare and hers was Cayde and he's basically giving her grief about Crow/Uldren

I wish it were reflected in the game too, but I guess it would be way too many people to schedule around, and things would lose focus. But in the lore tabs, OTHER great lore moments are: 1. There's a lore tab for the ship "Hushed Syrinx" where Saint-14 is talking to Crow, and Saint BASICALLY tells Crow that he can't go help on the Leviathan because he KNOWS his Nightmare will be Osiris, and he can't bear to see one more THING bear his face and voice and not actually be him. 2. The "Horus Shell" lore tab has Mithrax checking up on Saint's mental health since he hasn't left Osiris' bedside since Savathun released him 3. The ENTIRE Eidolon Pursuant armor sets has lore tabs of Eris Morn and Drifter trying to figure out the nature of Egregore. Drifter cooks Eris crawdad stew. It's good, as per Eris. 4. The weapon tab for "Unforgiven" has one of the MANY justified reasons Caital hates Calus. Calus gifted her a war beast - a dog that she ADORED and named Milos - and one day, she finds it gone, and discovers that Calus ordered a servant to kill it because she loved it more than she loved him. Yeah, if someone killed my dog out of jealousy, I'd start a coup too.

41:36 If you weren't aware, the scorn were created by uldren through a wish from riven. He found fikrul, the fanatic, dying. He couldn't do anything to help, no matter how hard he tried. So he unknowingly made a wish to revive fikrul. Then in classic ahamkara fashion, his wish was granted but twisted, and the scorn were born.

The last radio message, where Eris wants "to be happy" was sent to the Drifter. Keep that in mind for future seasons!

Calus loved Caiatl, but he was still a bad father and extremely narcissistic. Calus believed what he did was being a good father, but obviously he wasn't. He was pretty absent from her life when she was young, but Caiatl still forgave him. War Beasts are bred to serve their handler from the moment of their birth. They're life-long partners to the Cabal. Caiatl was gifted her own war beast by Calus and named him Milos. Calus would then have Milos killed because "It felt insulting for her to love an animal more than her father." At that moment, Caiatl hated Calus and would never forgive him anymore.

A two hour video? Terra, you spoil us. I've been waiting for this season, because this season hit me HARD in the feelings. "Trauma is an unrelenting beast. It never quite leaves our side...that doesn't mean you owe it a damn thing" - Eris Morn

For a little context, uh, through the Seasons, since Crow came to the City, him and Amanda kind of had this friendship/kind of hinting at love? That was building and developing over the seasons. Which is what led to the voice message in this season between the two, arguing. Almost all of that development and bonding was done through descriptions of items, like the Seasonal sparrow and ships and stuff, so a lot of people miss it.

When Forsaken first came out, everyone gave crap to Zavala, saying "He doesn’t care about Cayde" and whatnot because he didn’t want to start a war in the Reef. After this season, the line hits so much harder: "I refuse to bury any more friends" 😢

31:54 Cutscene archivists who turn subtitles off are one of my biggest pet peeves.

For some clarity, the vid u reacted to was made before the actual "end" of the season & missed some content, there was a final transmission from Calus in the Helm aswell as Eris' final dialogue of Duality/Calus' memories talking about The Final Shape, theyre both short so if ur curious theres a channel called DestinyLoreVault that archives Destiny stuff & has such content in playlists, maybe u could include ur reaction to them in the vid of next season? 39:03 also fun fact, there was a sword in the Leviathan raid called "It Stared Back" teasing Calus's meeting with "the Darkness", there was alot of hints of Calus meeting with the Witness back in the day 3:35 the Egregore is more related to the Witness than Xivu Arath, but since she serves it she also could've been using the Egregore. The Story related Patrols on Leviathan were juicy in lore, Egregore is essentially a special Darkness fungus that grows from death, Calus essentially had many of his own men killed to grow that amount of Egregore, he also found them on a planet FILLED with Egregore, makes you wonder how much death was caused to fuel an entire planets worth of fungus

I think the whole Destiny community shipped Caiatl with Zavala after this season. By far my favorite season from year of Witch Queen. I cried.

They don’t go over this in game because it was a lore tab for one of the weapons but one reason that caital hates calus is because he killed her dog. Calus gifted her a war beast and in Cabal society, war beast are loved by all cabal. She feed it food from her plate, slept in bed with it, all things we do when we love our dogs. But one day when Caital made it home from school, one of her servants gave her a note from her father and he explains why he had her war beast killed. It was because she showed it more love to it than him, so he ordered the servant to kill it.

Ah season of the haunted, easily one of THE biggest character dev seasons. All the seasons from the witch queen year have so many good moments week over week. This season has so many good and heartfelt moments and the writing is so tight, and can we talk about how well everything is delivered by the voice actors. This season imo is easily the 2nd best from this year, the best is easily Seraph, but we'll get there soon, and I have a feeling it might be your favorite for a number of reasons. As always great video, its so fun seeing you A) enjoy the story and get super invested but also B) pay attention and pick up on all the small details in earlier stories carried forward and how they interconnect

The fact that Zavala’s whole wife backstory is actualled stemmed from a random joke in D1 that Zavala liked nitting is amazing (or at least I think it is). (If ur curious search up D1 Tower PA Zavala’a nitting class). It was random funny dialog that would be thrown out on the D1 tower PA as ambient voice lines. Sometimes if u were in the tower for long enough it would throw some funny lines at u out the PA speakers. One was something like “u can sign up for zavalas nitting course on Bungie net.” or something. They used to break fourth wall too.

Oh, also a fun fact: In a lore entry for this season, you can read that Ikoras "ghost" was actually Cayde-6.

Ahhh, yes. The Season of Emotional Damage. ❤

Something I always noticed at 2:02:26 was how Crow watched Uldren and the Player look at each other. One - his past life, the other - the one who pulled the trigger. Crow watching that history between them via a simple stare off.

2:01:04 the memory of uldren saying "calus this is going to hurt, a lot" omg, just noticed, when he killed cayde he said the exact same "this is going to hurt, a lot" 😵

One quick thing, im not sure if you noticed, the end message was adressed to "the rat", aka the Drifter :)

"What face would your nightmare wear?" The Drifter's lived a long and chaotic life, but there are two in particular that come to mind.

Oh here we go, probably the pinnacle of character writing in this game? Misraaks and Saint in Splicer hit the same level for me, but therapy season kicked ass.

Both Eris and Crow are among my top 3 favorite characters. Season of the Haunted is one of my favorite Seasons because it brings a lot of development to them, seeing Eris using her trauma to guide others through theirs, helping them find the peace she had to fight countless wars for, it just feels right.

I wish some of the patrol dialogue was present in the video. I feel like a lot of it fleshes other things out especially with a tid bit of Caiatl and Calus’s relationship. Calus wasn’t always giving his daughter attention and when he found out she ended up loving her own warbeast more than himself. Well he decided to have the warbeast killed, you can see why Caiatl betrayed her father because of this.

10:26 about Cayde, in the lore books for this season Ikoras nightmare turns out to be Cayde 6 himself🥲

Absolutely my fav season, the character writing is top notch and genuinely made me feel so many things Made me think a lot about my own life and the things that have happened to me, how I could change my perspective on them and use them to grow Really cool message at the heart of it

Eris considered undergoing the Severance ritual herself, to completely free herself of the nightmares of her fireteam. They are still around but dont hold power over her like before. However, she decided against it, as she thought it would be too quiet/lonely without them. So they still torment her to this day, but Eris has accepted that as a part of herself now.

There are alot of Lightbearers that have lost their minds. One of them was tormented by Nezarec, others succumbed to the time they bled And if you wondered where Ikora is in all this, she is unable to help due to having a nightmare that cannot be accepted in that little time we had. It was Cayde and can be found in the Lore tab of the exotic Trespasser

Welp, told ya you'd be getting your heart to heart with crow. This season was such an emotional rollercoaster I felt myself tearing up again when I got to your reaction to zavala's story. Thankfully however, the next season was a more lighthearted fun one, still with a dark past story beat or two but mostly pirating fun

1:39:40 Her struggle isn't just with her choice to ally with the Vanguard, but her entire leadership philosophy as Empress. She's tried to balance respect for tradition with guiding her people away from the brutality and ruthlessness that was their norm, and that choice has caused many Cabal - including Ghaul, her mentor - to view her as "soft", failing to recognize the strength it takes to seek a diplomatic solution in the face of bloodlust. It's also created this tension where she despises Calus for his hedonism, but also recognizes the merit of some of his actions as Emperor (such as emancipating the Psions, who previously were enslaved), and struggles to find the balance between the passivity of Calus and the aggression of Ghaul. If you want to learn more about Caiatl, her history with Ghaul and Calus, and the fall of Torobatl, a large part of those stories are told in the lore from Season of the Chosen and Season of the Haunted (including the Duality dungeon), as well as a booklet included in the Lightfall Collector's Edition.

You’re not wrong for liking Uldren himself! He was a genuinely good man before the Black Garden’s heart corrupted him and then Riven and Savathun. Crow is his personality without all the cosmic horror bs. Besides, Crow _is_ Uldren! He speaks of Uldren in first person.

I've absolutely been waiting for the tears that would come with this season. One of the best parts of the journey.

I remember launch day. The moment the helm launched my wife called me to inform me i didnt need to yell 'I FUCKING CALLED IT' so damn loud 😅

Ah, season of trauma. I personally think this is the best season of the WQ era. The story beats are pretty darn good. I’m sure you’ve noticed that Destin stopped doing Destiny compilations following Season of the Seraph? Do you already have a good alternative for the Lightfall era seasons? (Assuming you aren’t just going to fully play-through them all yourself that is.)

I just wanna wrap Crow up in a fluffy blanket and give him hot cocoa. That aside, I always appreciate silly post-text edits commenting on the commentary 😆

Not gonna lie, I always cry to Zavala and Safiyah's cutscene. Always do. "He asked for their forgiveness. And, still, he has not found it."

While I haven’t watched the video yet given your reaction to Risen I feel you might love this one more.

I always liked Zavala but his story is one of the most depressing in gaming. You saw him attempting to kill himself by shooting his ghost, having to endure guilt and grief through most likely hundreds of generations, hundreds of years passing while you watch the lightless die young or old. I could not fathom a Guardians life. Falling in love only for the universe to gut punch you and force you to watch your pain in real time. Zavala almost forgives himself until…

2 more seasons to go, making great progress, bonus points cuz as of this video bungie has made all of the light fall seasons free until final shape drops, so you can actually experience defiant, deep, witch and wish! at this rate you might just be able to make it before final shape drops! also yeah, holy crap was season of the haunted good! here's hoping season of the plunder is at least to watch

One of the cinematic trailers for Destiny 2 shows Holliday growing up alongside Zavala after losing her parents. He’s basically her father figure (or more of a strict immortal uncle?)

Yes! I did some trimming of my reaction to keep the video from being 2.5 hrs long, and I believe Calus' address didn't make the cut! 😅 (I was pretty emotionally drained after the final cutscene)

The derelict Leviathan can actually still be seen in the Moon’s skybox.

I think Drifting Apart isn't actually a nod to this mission, Drifting Apart is a debuff that Bungie adds to some of their harder Strikes and Missions that makes it so if you're not near another player you'll have SUUUUUPER SLOW health regen It could be a nod at it, but it's available in plenty of other parts of the game too on random

Some of the lore of the dungeon weapons provide context around Caitial's relationships. Unforgiven shows one of the reasons she hates Calus. She had a warbeast named Milos and spent her youth with it. But Calus forced her personal attendant to put it down. She swore to never forgive Calus for any of his neglect/wrongdoings ever again, thus the weapon name.

Some of this season’s strongest points (like a lot of seasons) is hidden behind the optional dialogue that you get from replaying the seasonal activities and other things. For example, in this season you could head to locations to get dialogue lines from the memories. One in particular that comes to mind is how ghaul thought us weak because we did not fear death, that our knowledge of us being able to come back was a complete mockery of being a warrior and sacrifice. But now he knows we are strong, because we gain our power through the fear of those we protect dying. A power ghaul failed to recognise until it bested him, and that he hopes calus makes the same mistake. Destiny Lore Vault has all of these snippets saved and recorded, if you ever feel like taking a look at some. There’s far too many to make a video on, but it’s well worth going and having a look at them.

So not so fun fact but the last of Safiyahs family/bloodline died when the vex invaded the city during season of the splicer

The Glykon stuff was not the influence of Zivu Arath. Calus had the Crown of Sorrow. Originally worn by Ghalran (a sunset raid boss), it was supposed to give its wearer the ability to control the Hive. Of course it was a trick by Savathun. Calus brought it on the Glykon to experiment with it and the Scorn so that he could learn to commune with the Darkness. Which is what he is doing with the Moon pyramid now.

There are actually Guardian who did go crazy due to severe PTSD. You should look up Shayura. She's a tragic story

She pretended that their mother was the first awoken and had her play queen for a relative eternity, but Mara was indeed the first awoken, and Uldren the second, Mara just didn't want everybody to know that she had basically become god in the distributary. When their colony ship was dragged into the singularity caught between the waves of darkness and light from the clash of the pyramids and Traveler, Mara was the closest to the borderline. Why was Mara closest to the borderline? Because she was on a spacewalk at the time. Why was she on a spacewalk at the time? Because she wanted to die. And Uldren was right behind her. Really puts a lens of context over Mara's behavior, doesn't it? She's so ancient and wise having spent billions of years thinking and learning and planning and yet she still suffers from emotion and insecurity... because she never wanted to live forever and become a god. She just wanted it to end. Wanted a purpose. 1:20:33 Even... even after healing from this, it is still a fact he must accept. Safiyah is a manifestation of Zavala's guilt, and when she calls the Traveler his god, she is not wrong despite his denial. He understands that it is not a god, but he cannot help treating it like one. Keep an... ear out... for a later season scene. Where we witness a candid moment of Zavala... praying... not literally praying but the kind of prayer that only a Lightbearer could make: the Vanguard Oath, repeated, at the grave of someone dear. A prayer, for a Ghost of the Traveler to see their devotion, bravery, sacrifice, death. A prayer begging for them to be found worthy. Met with silence. 1:31:37 Caiatl is consistently the best character every season she appears, and is inarguably the best part of Lightfall's main plot. 2:07:19 I think it would have been cool if the Guardian had been offered a glimpse of their past life through the darkness of nightmares, not as vividly as Crow's nightmare of Uldren given he was already granted Uldren's memory, but still a nightmare of what they were before their original death, or even what they FEAR that they might have been. Only for it to be overtaken by the Witness and tell us that the past can offer no such salvation.

I feel this season really changed peoples opinions on Zavala. Like hes no longer the robotic, by the book commander after this

There was one more dialog in the HELM, in the second to last week of the season, in which Calus spoke to us about Lightfall (it was somewhat of a teaser for the showcase that took place two weeks later). Also, there was two hidden details in this season's lore, which were very easy to miss. The arc glaive that the player is holding at 1:48:25 is called Nezarec's Whisper and this references an old warlock exotic, called Nezarec's Sin. The second detail was the name of the chamber you see at 1:59:46. The name "darkest hour" appears in the Nezarec's Sin lore tab. But I don't recommend googling that, because you will come across spoilers for the future content.

My regret was not playing this season more, and also not being that active during Dawnings, both D1 and 2

32:03 that's the biggest issue I have with Destin's compilations, why did he chose to keep subtitles off

I don't think it mentions it outside of lore text in the game, but the Nightmare of Cayde went to Ikora while this was going on

Haven't watched the video yet, but YES, I AM SO EXCITED TO WATCH YOU SEE THIS. This is literally my favorite season narratively! Time to dive in this 2 hour beast LOL EDIT: Oh man, I'm glad that SOME of the Nightmare Containment repeatable event dialogue is present because it's SO GOOD. It changed week by week as the story progressed, and over time you would get dialogue of the newly-restored memories even retorting witty commentary against the Nightmares. If after all these seasonal watches are done, you'd like to see some of these, Destiny Lore Vault is a channel that has every single dialogue possible from these activity completions. They're terrific. EDIT#2: LOL No you are not the only one to ship Zavala and Caital. This season singlehandedly made their ship a thing and lots of us are here for it.

Probably my 2nd favorite season of the Witch Queen year behind season of Seraph.

Calus used the Crown of Sorrow to bind and open the Darkness corrupted fallen known as Scorn to speak with the Witness (or as we knew it then The Darkness, or The Voice in the Darkness.) He was uplifted by it, granted a small vestige of its power in the form of Egregore. The Darkness is the power of consciousness and the Egregore is a physical manifestation of the hivemind binding power it brings, notably it appears on worlds culled by the Witness and its Disciples. The Nightmares are the power of Nezarec, a manifestation of dark memories. The hanging shadows around the moon are the Nightmares of hundreds of dead Guardians killed by Crota during the Great Disaster.

Ok the story this season was incredible but ALSO the gameplay. This is one of the seasons I would add back to the game if I could pick any seasons to play whenever it would be Dawn, Chosen, Haunted, and Seraph.

There was one last-second cutscene that you just missed, which saw a vision of Calus appearing in the HELM and basically saying “I’d offer you to join to me, but we know your answer, so see you soon!”

I was FRIED by the end of the last cutscene so I actually cut a LOT of extra dialogue because I was just sitting there like 😐 lmao

Did you miss that eris was talking to the drifter at the end of the video?

I also ship Zavala and Caiatl. Either as best friends or lovers, I don't care. They are very much made for each other. Strong willed. Great personal presence. Different points of view, but amazingly complementary. Together they could rule the galaxy! Ahem. Sorry. That got away from me.

i should know better than to watch this while trying to play destiny. so hard to aim through my tears.

It's still crazy to me that Amanda and Caiatl are the same voice actress

Season of the Haunted is up there as one of the best Destiny has ever done. Maybe not my favorite, the activity was meh in my opinion, but the story, the character building, the emotion, music, all of it...this set the gold standard for what Destiny could be.

Next season: Season of Plunder

So when you get all semi caught up to the parts that are still in the game, are you going to react to the story or are you going to do a gameplay on the story parts?

I don’t know how ahead you are but the channel that posts these “destin” stopped with season of the seraph. The closest channel I could find to have the seasonal stories after that is called “esoterick”. I don’t know any channels that have lightfall post campaign story.
