So if you’re wondering why Crow is so reserved, he has had a pretty crappy first 2 years of his reborn life. There are multiple lore entries talking about how Guardians would react violently and hurt or kill him upon seeing his face. (One entry mentions a Titan beating him with a solar hammer and leaving him for dead, which came in the form of internal bleeding hours later.) The Guardian is the first person besides Glint to know him and still treat him with kindness.

the grimoire entries of his perspective from during the dawning are pretty heartbreaking. He hides in the forgotten corners of the city or the tower, seeing all the warmth and joy of the festivities, the guardians handing out cookies to everyone on the streets, all the happiness and love in the air, knowing he's not allowed to be a part of it. The worst part is that he doesn't even know why they hate him, he doesn't have Uldren's memories, so he's being abused by those who should've been his friends and allies, as well as the citizens he's fighting to protect, all because of something he doesn't even remember doing... He just thinks they hate him so much, that they dint even need a reason to torture the way they do

@@tyjames3339oh absolutely. I still feel absolutely devastated reading it. I have multiple friends who still despise Crow and want to kill him for Uldren’s crimes and it upsets me a little haha. But I like to imagine my Guardian and Crow became BFF’s.

@@themuzzy5092 One of the most devastating moments for me personally was after I read that lore tab about the dawning, then found Crow's little nest he had set up, and there was the single festive dawning bowl sitting among his stuff... A few of the lore cards kinda hint that we actually are pretty good friends, and not just coworkers so to say. Go read the hawkmoon lore card if you haven't for example, its just about the two of us drinking by a campfire and having a good time

Some of the Fallen Wrarhborn you hunt, Crow knew personally too. Not just as a co-worker, but more as a friend. Some lore on Hawkmoon: it was originally a gun in Destiny 1 and had a powerful but random perk and was widely used in crucible. If the stars aligned, the gun could 1 shot in PVP. Dont remember much outside of that. But because it was so powerful previously, nearly everyone was hyped about the return. Also came with random rolls.

I don't know if you know this. But, Crow, and Uldren, didn't just grow compassion recently. He always had that gentle and sweet side inside him. In some way or another. Especially towards the eliksni. His encounter with Fikrul. The fanatic. Was also a tale of compassion in a way. Uldren grew corrupted. He struggled with a lot through the years.

@@terabellum It really was. His need to get his sister's approval, Mara Sov's manipulations and the corruption of the Darkness that stuck to him since his days in the Black Garden really overshadowed that side of him. If you're interested I'd actually recommend reading about Fikrul. And how that happened. It's...cute. The things done to Uldren Sov is a big reason why I hate Mara Sov's character.

Loving the break-neck pace you are releasing these at as you play catch-up. Since you're doing reading and don't want to watch Dynasty or Byf videos, I will definitely encourage you one last time to read The Books of Sorrow. Personally, I think you could even squeeze a video out of you reading the cards. This is a collection of 50 short lore pages we found one by one aboard Oryx's Dreadnaught, way back in The Taken King expansion for D1. It's easily the best lore book in the entire franchise, it's beautifully written and tells you a good chunk of backstory on Oryx, Savathun and Xivu Arath. It's ESSENTIAL to fully understand the upcoming story beats involving the Hive, you're getting to a point now where future seasons and expansions are going to start being confusing, rather than enjoyable. Cheers!

I am so hyped for Chosen. While mayn say Splicer was better than Chosen, I disagree and say Chosen was my favourite season ever. And I played since season got introduced The lore you got before and in the season is actually quite sad, as Crow got hunted and killed by countless guardians before. Even those that wont kill him will avoid him when they see his face. Imagine being killed over and over again, being completely isolated because everyone hates you for a crime you know nothing about and haven't even comitted. Crow even noticed that we reacted to him, doesn't know that we killed him though. Im glad to see the lore where we actually become good friends with him "It's nice to work with another Lightbearer" hits hard because of how he could never form any attachment to anyone without them hating him. We are the first one to not actively hunt him down or avoid him completely. So of course he has trust issues in us Before anyone gets confused on why I say he didn't commit it, Crow is a different person than Uldren, no matter what. Even if he ever got his memories back, he will be a different person. Maybe some quirks stay, like his awkwardness but in general he can become so much more than Uldren was. Same thing with Exos like Cayde. It would technically be Cayde, but when he has no memory of himself after he got into the body and never made any of those experiences that made his character, is he really the same character?

50:55 this might be the most important line ever uttered in Crow's character development. Uldren tried to justify his actions by saying "everything I did, I did for her." He didn't live for himself but for Mara. Crow claims his own autonomy here. "Everything I did, _I did because I wanted to._ " Is there any better proof that Crow and Uldren are not the same?

  • @kylemccormack1785

Hey, it's Books of Sorrow guy again. I'm just gonna straight up dump some Hive lore here, based on some questions you asked recently. Plenty left in those 50 lore pages for you to enjoy, though! ;) *eh hem* So Oryx, Savathun and Xivu Arath are three siblings, countless millions of years old. They were the royal princesses of the Osmium Dynasty, and during the collapse of their family's grip on power, the siblings escaped and eventually found an incredibly sophisticated ship designed to navigate the endless expanses of their world's oceans. These three siblings eventually found the Worm Gods, took their Darkness-aligned larvae into their bodies, and became the Gods of the Hive. They brought millions of the larvae back to the surface and began the infection of their species. The Bargain of the Worm was simple. Power In The Deep In Exchange For Endless Blood Tithe. A Mandate To Never Abandon Their Nature's, Lest They Be Devoured By Their Ingested Worm Larvae. During those millions of years, they had many children and many broods of Hive loyal to each of them, all growing, breeding, spreading and devouring. They became insanely powerful, and the Worms taught them what we call Hive Magic, which allows them to indirectly call upon the Deep. The Books of Sorrow tell us, they came to "made the annihilation of all false life routine". Eventually, Oryx became so powerful that Savathun and Xivu both went away from him, in order to "grow different" and gain more space for collecting death tithes. Although they were always a little different and had different domains of power, this is when they truly became distinct beings. Oryx the Great Navigator, Savathun the Witch Queen, and Xivu Arath the God of War. They always killed each other, even before they went their own ways. Ever since they made the worm pact, they grew "cyst worlds", sword-spaces, pocket dimensions in which their deaths were stored and protected. Only by invading the un-real space and killing an ascendant hive THERE in the pocket world, in their throne world, can they actually die. Otherwise, not unlike a Guardian... they will eventually return. Because of the cyst-worlds of death, they could live forever. The Hive philosophy grew more and more twisted until eventually, as Xivu puts it, "This Love Is War". They practice killing and practice dying with each other, play tricks on each other, test each other. Making each other stronger. Once, Xivu and Savathun worked together to abandon Oryx "in the deep", during a special ritual in which Oryx was communing with the Voice in the Darkness; thus trapping him in a quasi-real space for a very long time until he found a way to escape. This is why Crota and Oryx must be destroyed in the raids Crota's End and King's Fall. In each of them, you use the power of Light and turn Hive magic against itself to enter the domain of the half-dead Hive Gods, and finish them off. It is also Crota's death, and therefore the removal of his great tithes and tributes to Oryx, that made Oryx weak enough for us to kill him. He was more akin to a wounded, snarling beast when he finally met us, because his worm was accustomed to being fed huge tributes by Crota's distant genocidal campaigns. (also, random side note that ALSO comes from D1 lore, Toland is absolutely FURIOUS when we don't take Oryx's throne. He calls us Pretenders and the Squanderers forever after.) Also, I hope you are playing HARD right now because you really don't want to miss playing the seasons for this year in particular. Don't miss out. Hive lore is a MUST HAVE for you, coming up! ...also I want to play D2 with you some time plz ok thnxbai.

At the beginning, the whole thing with Rasputin and Exo frame - it is a reference to Bungie's old concept: that of Rasputin not being a warmind, but an actual Exo, kidnapped by Oryx, and we were supposed to rescue him from the Dreadnaught. That idea was scrapped, when during the early development Activision was dissatisfied with the game being singleplayer, and ordered Bungie to scrap what they have made, and turn Destiny into multiplayer game only. And gave them only ONE YEAR to do it, which was ridiculously small amount of time, but they wouldn't budge on the deadline, so Bungie had to Frankenstein the game, so to speak. That's why vanilla D1 and Dark Below make so little sense - over the years Bungie recontextualized most of the events, made them less vague and nonsensical. But some issues have taken almost a decade to be adressed.
