Search for LAND in NORTHERN Florida: Can we fit the Tiny House on Wheels? New Adventures in RV life
In July of 2023 we finally made our way back down to Florida. After our 7 week scouting trip in the Spring we were feeling hopeful that we were narrowing down the search to an area that we really liked. BUT first we had to see if we could survive Florida in the SUMMER!

We are a (sort of) normal couple living a rather unusual lifestyle in a Tiny House on Wheels (192 square feet) trying to fit more adventure, travel and exploration into our lives! We love to go camping, hiking, backpacking, kayaking…and traveling with our 16 foot Scamp Trailer. We have an awesome Adventure dog named Redford that is up for anything. Tip: only a few counties in north Florida issue RV permits. You need that permit to get utilities installed: Gulf, Taylor, Dixie, and maybe Madison. Otherwise you’ll need to buy a livable dwelling and create an RV spot on the property. You might already know this. Some real estate listings may say that it’s “perfect” for an RV or tiny home, but beware of these listings.

oh yes- do not trust the listings or some of the things realtors say - especially when it comes to RV sites. Madison had a temporary hold on RV sites, but as of October they are allowing it with (what seems like) increased regulation- got a nice 15-page packet I am working on for the permitting process ...and i thought this would be easy

When I stayed at a Hipcamp in Englewood FL, they had a black hen that roamed the grounds during the day. I was giving her bread. Funny how she would flip her head to break a piece off. GL in your quest!

Yep, Waffle House is an institution here in Florida. 😀 The Tallahassee/Leon County area is rarely affected badly by hurricanes. Prices are lower in Wakulla County just south of us. Lots of excellent seafood restaurants in this area. Good job opportunities here in Tallahassee.

I have to say I get the Waffle House thing now- Great stop for breakfast! Just wait for the next episode 🙈 the hurricane didnt listen when people said this area is more protected...But we just continue to be surprised by northern florida & the big bend area. Great little towns, shops, restaurants, friendly people, a strong job market in the bigger towns and some beautiful nature 😊 well worth putting up with some weather challenges to us

it was a great Airbnb, unfortunately they are not hosting at the moment because they took some damage from the hurricane 🤞 hopefully they will get back up soon as it is a great spot! If you like a more rural feeling check out Norther Florida- some great spots 😊
Have you looked at the 20 mile radius outside of Jacksonville? I've been here 30 years and Hurricanes have not been a problem. Good Luck with your ventures.

We considered it in the beginning as there is a strong job market in Jacksonville, but the land in that area was a bit higher priced - which pushed us closer to Tallahassee. We do hope to do some traveling & camping in the Jacksonville area in the future...some neat stuff over there 😊
Where is this place you stayed? You said Airbnb I think. Very cool accommodations!!

It is an airbnb- not sure if they are still hosting as there was a lot of damage from the hurricane there, but it was a great spot!
I’m in MD and I believe the closest Waffle House is over an hour away.

It was an experience- I wish we had one closer in NJ...but it will be something to enjoy when we get down to FL 👍
