North Florida RV Property AFTER Hurricane Idalia: Trees Down & RV Site Plan for Utilities LNAB

At the end of October - over 2 months after purchasing our land we finally found some time to run down for a few days and assess the damage. We are working on our site plan for permitting and getting well, septic and electric installed.
/////*****/////*****/////*****/////*****/////
We are a (sort of) normal couple living a rather unusual lifestyle in a Tiny House on Wheels (192 square feet) trying to fit more adventure, travel and exploration into our lives! We love to go camping, hiking, backpacking, kayaking…and traveling with our 16 foot Scamp Trailer. We have an awesome Adventure dog named Redford that is up for anything. Come with us as we Let New Adventures Begin!

    What fun! When you start to feel overwhelmed take a break, and think of all you have accomplished so far. Think of your home and garden and your tick eating chickens! Super happy for you!

    you are so right - it can feel overwhelming! I picture the tiny house settled into its own spot, a big garden & Redford enjoying some space to run! ...hopefully not toward the chickens...that's gonna take some training 🙈

    @@LetNewAdventuresBegin Redford will be so happy. Maybe a see through fenced yard around part of your house to keep Redford safe and a separate large area for the chickens to roam. I am super glad for our fence because no skunks come in our yard. That happened to our Dogs growing up and it was awful. One time we came home from vacation and right away the Dog got sprayed and ran all over the house to escape the smell Funny now but not then.

    Being a Native Floridian and having gone through my share of hurricanes in six decades, I am very surprised the tent and shed survived! 😎👍 In 2018, Hurricane Michael missed us in Tallahassee, but pounded Panama City. But, I did have a big tree brought down right on my front chain link fence. Smashed it, knocked down my powerline, but somehow the big branches missed my mailbox, straddling either side of it. My yard guy was able to rebuild my fence after I bought some hardware. That's life in sunny Florida! 🙄

    It was crazy timing that we got a direct hit from this storm just a couple weeks after purchase...but I will say it has shifted our planning process somewhat. I love the trees, but now understand we have to keep the RV pad well away from the big ones! It is a challenge we are willing to accept for a longer summer & growing season🏖😍

    the one time i had to change a tire on my boat trailer, i sat down on the ground (on the side of the road) and there where HUNDREDS of ticks crawling around that particular spot! and i had to work there as the trailer couldn't move on a flat.....very disgusting.

    ugg that makes my skin crawl just thinking about it - why nature decided there has to be so many ticks in one spot I will never understand!!

    Wow, first time i’m seeing your property, nice. Will you have to reinforce your tiny house to resist hurricanes? Bolt it to a cement slab maybe?

    Thanks! we are really happy with it 😊 Good thing is our Tiny House was built like a tank...steel frame, industrial trailer, all metal siding and roofing. I want to get storm shutters installed to protect the windows and an anchoring system on the RV pad & I think it will be pretty good 👍 the long-term plan is to possibly build a cement house...but thats very long term

    Water Oaks vs. Live Oaks? Very different growth and stability in storms..... see which ones you really have. Water oaks are not native to Florida. Live oaks are. Water oaks fall easily. Live oaks do not. Love your wood stove info (that's how I found you today) because I'm moving from Florida to Colorado. Good luck with your new property!

    i'm not trying to be negative; but, isn't it taking a big risk by sitting the "tiny house" on a property that can be hit by a hurricane? i don't see how it'd survive a really bad storm like that.......wouldn't it be better to build a smaller, permanent home that could be made to survive hurricanes?

  • @LetNewAdventuresBegin

    @LetNewAdventuresBegin

    9 ай бұрын

    yup- I totally understand the thought process & you are right. The Tiny House is the starting point & we had it built to be extra sturdy with steel framing and all metal exterior...the long-term plan is a cement house, but that will take some time and 💰

    It's really bad in the northeast (we are at 2/3 in our household)...I was hoping it would be better in Florida, but I guess not 🙈 It makes it hard to enjoy the outdoors, thats for sure
