Scamp in Cape Hatteras 3: Everything is Broken! The Challenging Trip Home from Outer Banks LNAB

Our super relaxing trip to Cape Hatteras came to an abrupt end when we realized the minor electrical issues we noticed were actually a Major problem! #letnewadventuresbegin #outerbanks #scamp

You sure hit the nail on the head: 1) RVing always brings surprises, 2) tent camping background offers a lot of wisdom and coping mechanisms. 🥰

so true & if we dont get these issues sorted out soon we may be back to tent camping 😂

@@LetNewAdventuresBegin I see so many folks camping with TT, but I decided too many issues. I LOVED convenience of refrigerator and cooking inside, but water and electrical issues just added stress. Moved to 12v fridge, solar power station, and use hot plate inside (if site with E) or small propane camping stove.

Those "sand spurs" are down here in Florida too. Very painful and annoying. Some places we simply cannot walk barefooted. 😢 Speaking as an old DIYer, exmusclecar guy and Military electronic tech, I know electrical glitches can be very difficult and irritating to track down, but that's all a part of owning older vehicles. 😎👍

oh no! we have not come across those in Florida yet, but I will keep an eye out for them when we get back down there. Yes! we have several things that need to be fixed...but it seems the electrical issues are the most challenging of all!

Hi again, all I can say is you two + Red are just so patient and chill. We would have been stressing out...could explain why we never thought about getting a RV even though it has road trip benefits! 🤣 Love the quote in the end, 👍 Patagonia!

I was feeling pretty stressed on this one, but thank goodness Patrick has those driving skills! It really is something you have to expect as an RV owner...so I get why some people stick with tent camping 😂

Scamp needs some TLC. I think you do too - in the way of comfort food! I'm sure Pat will agree!

With winter downtime coming up, it'll be a good time to go through the Scamp and track down and fix these annoying bugs. Hoping next camping season goes much better! 😎👍

Speaking of Redford. If he won't let you inspect his paws. Start today and grab his paw or softly touch it, whenever youre mushing on him.. whatever stage you're at. Every day do that and just reassure him......over time he will let you inspect his paws..I did that with my GSD and it is slowly working. I even clipped a toenail once! He is a feisty little bugger! Also as you know, take advantage of their mellow moods.

If I get him when he is sleepy or relaxed I can just about clean his ears...but the paws are a tough one! One of the quirks of adopting a 1.5 yr old dog that got almost no socialization or training early on...but we love him quirks & all :)

I bought a long rope made for tying up boats. I attached a clip to one end and made a handle on the other. Its fun for situations like this where the Dog can run a bit more..

I think we may have to do that for our next trip...better than constantly unwrapping him from trees, chairs & picnic tables 😊

The way those breakers were flopping around I would probably start with installing a new converter. They should be solidly mounted. And then trace out all the wiring. I have a cheap Harbor Freight volt ohm meter I keep in my trailer just for that purpose. And Patrick knows to take care of that corroded ground. I don't know if you have a rodent problem there, but that's also a possibility. They love chewing on wires. And finally, just to rule it out, I'd also check out the seven pin on the Jeep and make sure there's nothing wrong there.

humm now you have me thinking- I just got some repairs done on my car from chewed wires- I didnt even think of that as a possibility in the Scamp but that would explain a lot of things! I will keep you updated

@@LetNewAdventuresBegin Apparently you have an electrical panel that's separate from the converter. I would pull that out and look behind it to see what's going on. With shore power and the battery disconnected, of course.

If things keep breaking, you may want to look at getting a new axle. We replaced the axle last year for our 2004 scamp. And now things are not breaking any more, as new axle = new suspension = less rough ride. I can recommend NY-NJ trailer supply in butler nj.

you are absolutely right! we are in the process of scheduling a new axel install right now, but finding a shop is challenging. The funny thing is I grew up in Butler & didn't know there was a trailer shop there (I moved away 20 years ago) but I will look at that- thanks!!

We had a problem once with our ground wire connection while on a trip I got a jumperwire from an autoparts store that had an alligator clip on both ends and connected it from the hitch to a bolt on the trailer..it got us home and it also kept the trailer battery charged...
