Sean really is the champion and success story that a lot of people needed. In general, many people end up in a horrible hole without any hope of getting out, but a lot of people who specifically train martial arts began training because of the f*cked up atuff they went through. Sean is real, he knows he has flaws, doesn't make excuses even though he went through hell. Im so happy he got that belt, but more importantly, im so happy he got out of that horrible hole he found himself in. Awesome documantary like usual mate.

I can relate to Sean's story. Abusive family life, then my mom divorced my dad and she was working all the time, so I basically raised myself. Shitty neighborhood where there were other kids that definitely had it way worse, so I learned to count my blessings as I got older. Wasn't until my step-dad came along that I realized things could actually be better, and I definitely credit his presence, when he came in to my life, for being one of the biggest reasons I'm not in prison today. I slightly pushed him away and slapped me in the face as he would, then I tackled him to the floor and he started crying about his back and flopping around on the floor. I was utterly disgusted because of instead of fighting back and giving me a chance to let him have a bit of those 16 years of suppressed rage he was , all of sudden, the victim .

Well to be fair he also sais alot of things that the ufc higher ups in todays time would rightfully be afraid of. Unfortunately as a company in the entertainment business they need to worry about their public image so while his story and character is indeed quiet marketable having their champ walk around explaining his desire to kill a man or why woman shouldnt be allowed to vote really is a double edged sword. Call it going woke if you want but from a business perspective i really cant blame them for rather not wanting to deal with those things. Anyway he is champion now so it is what it is.

He s a big dude, 6.3, 6.4 i m 5.11maybe 6.1. He backed down. That s when the power dynamics changed in the house. I was disappointed, everyone was scared of him, and there he was doing nothing and being afraid to engage with me. I was read to go. Sean’s origin story kind of reminds me of the story of Jonny Kim. He had a brutally abusive father who threatened his mom with a gun when Jonny was in highschool. He fought his dad and got pistol whipped but his dad left after that. Jonny called the cops and his dad was shot to death by the police that same evening. Jonny went on to become a Navy Seal medic and sniper, graduated from Harvard medical, and is now a NASA astronaut. There’s hope for Strickland imo, he’s a world champ and most importantly it seems like he’s found love. Having an f’d up childhood ruins so many lives but for some people it creates greatness and hope.

The UFC really was worried about Sean being champion… now that he’s champion you’re seeing so much shedded light on the real issues that he and a lot of us deal or dealt with… he really became the people’s champ, and because of that there’s so much more awareness even self awareness now.

i don't have anything to do with my parents and literally everyone i meet (online or irl) says really stupid shit about it. people gaslight you constantly because they cam't imagine not having reasonable parents, or parents who love them. it makes it worse. "family is the most important thing in life!" etc. idk which part of "not everyone was born with great parents" people don't understand. it's horrible

A lot of kids grow up in dysfunctional situations. Some use it as an excuse to be a druggy loser, others use it as motivation, it gives them drive to be successful. Loser let their environment define them, winner define themselves, regardless of their environment. People can stop being losers anytime they decide to. Sean's a winner now!

You have a very superficial idea about this. I dont know no one who tried to become a loser in the life, this go so much deeper than that, as far tha a lot of times the damage is unfixable. You can say whetever you want, you didn't live that, is going to be just a inexperienced opinion, you cant even imagine how is to discover that we everything you are, everything you has been show, is just a mask, and is not self, or sometimes your self is already divided in diferentes personalities. I hope the guy find out the way to never ever kill someone.

99% of all the bad in the world stems from the home.. and with the parents. So many parents afraid to discipline (properly) and no accountability look at where we are.. Teenagers running over pedestrians for fun on tiktok. "But he was a good boy!" Lmao. Blame the parents. Sean was finally able to break that chain and start his own new generation of better and more positive role models for future generations. I too, was in a similar situation and I still battle anxiety because of it.. Sadly, he got locked up before I could take that anger out on him finally that I'd been plotting for years and for the first 10 years it was nothing but fights, jail, parties drugs/alcohol and negativity.. Hurt people really do hurt people. And unfortunately the therapists kept telling my mother that we just didn't accept of the new Step Dad.. even though we would cry and latch on every time she left.. cause we knew what was coming as he'd be watching out of the corner of his eye deciding how hard to go depending on how much we say that night. Now that I'm old enough and wise enough to realize and see these things I've been able to tone a lot of it down and fix some things, but the daily struggle with anxiety and confidence is a HUGE factor. Any mothers out there in this situation.. Stop hesitating. Leave before it causes permanent damage to your children. Do it smartly, secretly and don't get yourself hurt.

Alcohol brings out the worst in people. One drink is usually no big deal but two, then three and if it happens on a schedule like every weekend and it can grab a hold of a person eventually spiraling out of control or into other things. It's like a right of passage in America. People tend to overlook how lucky they are when they over did it, drove drunk, or got away with something that could have been life changing. We are living in unprecedented times. Happiness is possible without pouring it down the hatch.
