Damn, I feel like a sucker, like I've been bamboozled. All this time, I thought I was helping out Guru Larry. I busted my ass working on my part for the video, and all I got was this lousy Slope's Game Room slot! Didn't even get a shirt! Well...joking aside, thanks Daniel, for having me on here, this complete history turned out great, like they all do. 10 Seamen out of 10, would (and will) collab with again.

When I went to Joypolis in Japan, they had a giant screen with a camera that puts your face on a seaman.

In high school we smoked copious amounts of weed while leaving Seaman on. Before we knew it he was asking for the lighter! 🤣

This isn't quite the complete history. When the iPhone App Store first launched, Yoot Saito and the team were making a version of Seaman 2 for the iPhone under the name "Gabo". Apple allegedly refused to allow it on the App Store.

Soooo.. petition to translate and release the ps2 games? The second one was wow! So much stuff to do! I really wish I could play it.

+Ri Dragon You do realize that they'd need to redo the ENTIRE voice recognition part of the game. I don't think the original devs would go to the trouble of almost remaking a 10 or so year old game, on a dead console, with an uncommon accessory only available in japan, for a decent, but small sized community. I'm pretty sure doing an original game would be the better option here, as you can do whatever you want, test the waters to see if still popular, and release it on consoles that most people might have nowadays.

@@thepuzzlemaster64 If only we had some kind of sci-fi technology of the future that could nearly-instantly recognize and translate basic speech and pass that information to the game, so that a whole new voice recognition engine didn’t have to be written from scratch. Maybe in the future...

I hope the new game not only gets made but also has a worldwide release on every current home console and pc so everyone who wants to play it can.

I really hope seaman 2, or at least a new game, gets localized. This video has really made me realize just how unique these games are.

Dreamcast had some awesome accessories considering it's short life span. It had this microphone, huge steel battalion Mech controller, Mouse and keyboard, and a fishing rod controller.

AJ T I stand corrected thank you sir! I own this thing for Xbox but I remember this being in an issue of EGM introducing it as being developed for Dreamcast. The development must have shifted to Xbox when Dreamcast when bust so it was never released for Dreamcast which I didn't realize until just now.

I'm one of the females that bought that game. Seriously I tried so hard to explain the brilliance of the game to other people but they just were not as enthusiastic as me.

I was always kinda surprised the franchise didn't eventually find a home on the Nintendo DS. It seemed like it would have been perfect.

Yeah, a virtual pet released in 2 not portable consoles! What a shame. I think i read something about a 3ds port cancelled but who knows why. It would probably be Japanese only anyway...

I bought this game when it came out and it came with a microphone. I was bored of it almost immediately but my wife was obsessed with it and thanks to her I was able to see the full game.

Seaman was always one of those games I'd heard of. I'd heard of it, and never looked further into it, and I now know way more about Seaman than I ever though I needed to know. Great video as always, dude, and nice work to Jimmy as well.

The game hasn't skyrocketed at all. It's been around 60$ for the past 10 years. If one thing; it's prove youtubers have virtually no influence on retro game prices.

I still have my copy of SEAMAN (and the microphone), though my Dreamcast is long dead. I played it up to the point where it asked about my job, but no matter how much I tried, I couldn't get it to understand 'Customer Service'.

Eric Hanson dreamcasts can be picked up pretty cheap, at least where I live (USA). Basic unit is about $30-$40 here. Bring Seaman back to life.

I thought I'd heard of a PS2 port of the game, but I never had any idea an honest-to-goodness sequel was made for the system too! would've been cool to see a Seaman: The Ultimate Collection on modern day systems... though I suppose whatever this Seaman 3 will be will have to do. huge props to you and Jimmy for putting this together!

Great stuff "Larry". I only knew there was one regular sequel but I assumed that was just like the first game. This series of games is weird. I'm pretty sure the reason Sega decided to not release the first in the UK was down to issues with regional accents making voice recognition tricky. But that always sounded... fishy (ahem)... cos, you know... all countries have regional accents.

Love these complete history videos. Wasn't quite so keen on the fish slapping ending.

But what happens when the son takes over in seaman 2? This has to be explored in more detail!

Oh man... i loved Seaman on the Dreamcast but after seeing footage of the PS2 version is clearly that the Dreamcast version was like more experimental and a prototype. I wish one day someone translates the PS2 2003 release and also Seaman 2 in other languages.... yeah, it would require tons of reverse engineering and time, but i can dream on it....

Gamestop was FuncoLand still, this game was $79.99 with the microphone addition if I remember correctly

I consider the PS1 game Tail of the Sun (Taiyou no Shippo) to be a sort of spiritual predecessor to this game, at least insofar as how it aims to be quirky, ambiguous, and thoroughly original. Someday, Tail of the Sun will get the spotlight it deserves.
