Sea Fishing Rigs - The Sliding Sea Float Rig

Ойын-сауық

Another really effective sea fishing rig that Graeme has used often os the sliding float rig. It can also be adapted to be used in freshwater fishing too.

Excellent description of the stop knot. I have always used rubber stops but will give the stop knot a try next time. Thumbs up!

I love float fishing in the sea. I Wass feathering for mackerel last week caught and filleted a small one, and used a piece as bait on my float. Boom! 4lb Pollack within 5 mins. I love it.

I do one the other way around. Sinker, bead(to protect the knot)swivel, pegged float on leader, hook. It lets me explore any depth I want, but I mainly want to keep my bait out of the seaweed and away from crabs. The Gringos call it a Santee Cooper rig(for catfish), but it also works great in saltwater

I have used this method off Walton Pier and caught Garfish. I used a smaller float with a 10 G olivette. I made a big plummet from an old lead to plumb the depth. you can hold back the bait just off bottom or run down the tide. It is quite versatile.

I tend to fish with pretty light line when I do this, I use a bead because I only tie the stop knot with 10lb line. If you leave the tags on the stop knot abount an inch long it flows through the rings better and line doesnt catch on the knot on the reel spool. Its a great method

Hi Graeme, Very helpful today. Never used a sliding float before. Will have to get some as i reckon the hook length is less likely to tangle compared to using other floats. Nearly 120 K Subs, I wonder why ?. Because your the best Graeme. Summers coming and i can't wait. Cheers, Steve in Fife.

i had a rough wave at my place for fishing. im fishing from the boulders so thats mean my line will be pushed back to the shore or to the boulders. does that means i can never use float rig ? or i need heavier weight under the float ?

Sounds like its unfishable when the surf is up.Check the air pressure weather charts,or even some of the surf sites so you can spot a time when the surf is down. Those sites can be pretty helpful for guaging incoming conditions.

Yeah.. I tried fishing when the high tide because they said there are more fish at that time. I'll make sure to check the weather charts too next time i go fishing. Got a long road to become pro. Sob. Thanks for the kind advice !

Also you need a small bead above float to buffer against the knot so it doesn't pull through the float when the lead sets the depth . Maybe not with the smaller floats but definatly with larger ones .

Have you not watched the film ? ?...13.36 there's a whole section about using a plastic bead above the float for larger diameters etc....Duuuhhhh !!....I suggest watching the whole film properly before you hit the keyboard again..and there's TWO of you NOT watching as you have a "like" to your mistake as well !!...Go to the back of the class and write out 500 times.."I really must watch these films through before I spout off !..
