Scuf Reflex PS5 Unboxing - I REGRET Not Buying This Sooner

Ғылым және технология

Today, I am doing a quick unboxing and first impressions of the Scuf Reflex Pro, which is pretty much the same thing as the Scuf Reflex, and is only missing the different paddles of the Scuf FPS. I’ve been wanting this controller for a LONG time as these tend to be my first purchase when I get a new console. But due to supply chain issues along with the absolute enormous cost associated with it I had to hold off for some time. Previously, I’ve used one of the original Scuf Xbox One controllers which was awesome and I LOVED it. Then I moved onto the Scuf Impact PS4 Controller and absolutely hated it. As it wasn’t very comfortable and the paddles were annoying. It worked just fine and had all kinds of fancy features but just wasn’t as solid as the one for Xbox. It was also one of the very first revisions so that may have now improved. I’m hopeful this one will renew my faith in Scuf and wasn’t a giant waste of money. As the Scuf Reflex is $199.99, Scuf Reflex Pro is $229.99, and Scuf Reflex FPS is $259.99 BEFORE any customization. Which seems excessive to me. You’re practically buying a new console.

SCUF DIFFERENCES:
Scuf Reflex has everything the Pro has except for high-performance grips (on the back). The Scuf Reflex FPS has everything the Pro model has (including high-performance grip), but gets rid of the adaptive triggers (which I think seriously lessons the awesomeness of the PS5 controllers) and removes the vibration modules. And costs A LOT of money. Further not making it worth it in my opinion. Scuf Reflex is $199.99, Scuf Reflex Pro is $229.99, and Scuf Reflex FPS is $259.99 BEFORE any customization.

COMES WITH:
- Scuf Reflex Controller
- 6ft/2m USB-C Cable
- Additional Thumbsticks (x1 short domed, x1 long domed

    @@ThomasMuehler 10.4 you pretty much summed it up with that statement. DS4 windows is a software based application (free I believe) that is commonly used to remap buttons, map keyboard binds to controller, overclock your devices etc. All of the professional FPS players that use controllers overclock them to the highest available hertz which in this case is 1000hz & makes a difference. If you use a wireless controller even more improvements can be found because of the latency vs wired. Also of note the PlayStation controllers seem to respond best to the overclock (not sure why). You can find simple straightforward guides on KZread on how to overclock controller. Gamer Heaven channel did a pretty extensive breakdown of overclocked controllers on his channel testing them. Improved response time and device latency. No negative effects from overclock. PS5 controllers (stock version w/ overclock tend to perform the best over everything else in market. The modules PlayStation uses for analog sticks are superior to Microsoft hands down as far as accuracy & durability imo.

I’ve owned Scuf Xbox , Battle Beaver Xbox X, PlayStation DualShock (ps4), Microsoft Series 2 Elites, Razer Ultimate Edition and stock PS5 (with Kontrol Freek CQC Rush attached to sticks)controllers. After overclocking them the PS5 controllers felt the most responsive hands down. I used DS4 Windows to overclock. I’d recommend the Kontrol Freek CQC Rush for your controller as well. Helps with accuracy and feels superior to any stock analog stick I’ve used.

  • @ThomasMuehler

    @ThomasMuehler

    Жыл бұрын

    From my knowledge the only difference between the two is that the Scuf Reflex Pro has a rubberized-type grip on the back of the controller compared to it being the normal plastic on the Reflex. Otherwise, features are the same. Personally, I went with it because a ton of other reviewers were saying it was the bee's knees (super awesome). However, I'm not convinced that it is worth the $20 upcharge. As it doesn't come across as life changing to me. Not that it is cheap by any means. It feels good, is soft, grippy, and I have no complaints about it. Like compared to other grips I've tried it feels upper end. But at the same time don't think it adds anything extra to the controller where I'd be like dang, I missed out if it didn't have it. But I"m also one of those people who don't mind the feel of plastic, have issues with grip, or get sweaty hands. So, may not be the main target demographic for it. But I found that $20 to get the best was worth it after spending $200. But I think that is a trap they kind of lay and hope you fall for. So definitely comes down to personal preference.

    Totally comes down to you. I personally would go with the Scuf. As I like to have four paddles and think this controller is excellent. Expensive AF. But excellent and I’m very happy I bought it. The PS5 Dualsense Edge looks cool. But only has two paddles which to me is a deal breaker. But some other features (such as swapping out the thumbsticks I believe but may be wrong because haven’t looked recently) that could make it better. So, if you only want or will use two paddles then it may be worth waiting for. If you want four paddles and/or don’t want to wait I don’t think this is a bad choice. I also forgot if they mentioned how much the Dualsense Edge is. If it isn’t a lot of money then that may change my mind.

    I completely agree with what you're saying. The pricing for these "premium controllers" is unreal. The worst part is that the price across the board is pretty much the same no matter which company you go with. With some being even more expensive and you get less. It kind of blows my mind that a controller costs almost as much as the console you use it on. That said, I still love my Scuf and am happy I purchased it. Has made my enjoyment of console gaming (and also use it on PC) so much better than a stock controller. Which I think is the crux of the problem. Is people are willing to pay the outrageous prices and so they continue to get away with it. I also hear the complaint of stick drift a lot. I understand the frustration. But I don't see a way of effectively resolving that issue. Seeing as anything with that type of design will eventually break down from entropy. Also, found the rougher I am with my aim the faster that issues start to occur. I've started to use long sticks which help me not be as aggressive and more accurate. I think the only way to fix this would be what the new PlayStation DualSense Edge where the stick itself is hot swappable. But still depends on A. How easy those replacements are to get (as stock issues have been terrible across the board) and B. How much those cost each time. Looks like it is $19.99 right now for that particular controller. Which is why I prefer PC gaming. Lol. Peripherals are cheaper and last a lot longer.

    Battery life?

  • @ThomasMuehler

    @ThomasMuehler

    Жыл бұрын

    I find it to be better than the original PS5 controller. On the PS5 stock controller I think the battery life is poor. As I felt like I was always recharging it. Where this one I'd say is like medium. Where I don't have to charge it all the time but definitely still need to charge it frequently. I don't play console all that often. But when I do it is usually for an extended period (maybe 4 - 8 hours). So, with the stock PS5 I swear I had to charge that almost every time I gamed. With the Scuf I can have a whole play period and then some of the next. Maybe two periods before needing to charge. But I still feel like I'm charging controllers all the dang time compared to my gaming mice. Which is why I hate internal batteries for controllers and much prefer Double AA's (rechargeable of course). That way I can just swap it out and keep going. But what I've done is just remember to plug it in at night (if in rest mode or put it in a wall outlet that will actually charge the controller safely) that way it is always charged when I go to play. But yeah, I'm disappointed in general with battery life on controllers.

Where they are a smidge more expensive than some of the competition. But you get a great product. While still being excessively overprice. So far with a lot more testing I love it. Performs and feels fantastic in the hand. But that price tag is unbelievable. I also just love having "paddles" or similar on the back as it makes the movement and control I have in games dramatically better that its worth it to ME. But to say I didn't feel the price tag would be an understatement as I had to sell quite a few things to be able to afford it.
