That's the problem with dealing with wildlife. So many of them don't like cameras, or for you to know it was them making noise lol. Some of the animals are really curious about ir enjoy being on camera, others not so much.

With cute sounds like that why are they called screech owls?! I remain baffled each time I search for a screech owl video because I’m badly addicted to them and other owls.

I'm not certain about where their name came from. However, the cute trilling sound is just one of the sounds they make. I would assume the name has to do with the screeching sound they can also make.

Here is the most clearly audible example of the secondary call made by Screech owls, the one that gives them their name - kzread.info/dash/bejne/pqBpxZeNpZbdYJc.html The one in the link is the one that I am much more familiar with from personal experience. The call in this vid here is much quieter, so if you hear it, you're probably very close to the owl making it.

The sounds they were making in the latter half of the video sound like puppies. I was going out to get some dinner tonight and encountered a pair of screech owls making that same sound. I've heard screech owls around here before, but this was my first time actually seeing them.

@MP people are allowed to dream aren't they? Would I love to adopt an owl? Hell yeah I would! Could I? No because for one it's not legally possible where I live. My alternative plan is to see if I can build a couple of owl boxes in my apartment building's backyard. That way I can look out my window and see them.

No, we are a wildlife rehab facility. Our goal is to rehabilitate & then release the animals that come to us. We do have some animals that are unable to be released. Those become educational animals & do programs at schools, libraries, community centers, etc., to help us educate the public. However, the majority of animals that come through our doors get released back to the wild. Prior to release, we have to keep them in enclosures, until we are certain they are ready & the conditions are right (we don't release in winter because we want them to have time to find shelter, food, & water before snow/frost hits). These were awaiting release, so this room was only temporary.

We are a wildlife rehab. They came to us injured. The 2 that have leather straps are unable to be released, are permanent residents with us, & do programs to educate the public about wildlife & owls. The others were simply waiting to be released.

It is a temporary room. Most of the animals in our care get released back into the wild. When we have too many animals in one enclosure, we do what we can to empty another enclosure so we can split them up until release. Some of our enclosures have doors connecting them so we can empty the one on the other side & then open the connecting door so the animals can have both rooms. And sometimes, we just get in a lot of the same animal at one time & have to make things work until we can move things around a bit. We also take into consideration the types of animals & the personalities of the specific animals when putting them together, so if these guys had been irritable with each other or not gotten along, they wouldn't all have been in the same enclosure.

What's going on here is just a group of screech owls making their typical sounds. Most of these owls were, at the time of filming, waiting to be released. This video is from 2017, & all the releasable owls were released back to their natural habitat years ago now. We are a wildlife rehab facility. Animals come to us injured, ill, or exceptionally young & orphaned. We care for them, provide food, water, & any needed medical care, and then release them when they are ready.

Same reaction. I'm sure what is being done at this sanctuary is good, but these birds looks very scared and unhappy. And it is depressing seeing them caged up with poop all over the place.

  • @LilRocker2005

@@havingagr8time uhm how else are the good people at this place supposed to rehab them? In an open space where the owl may get away and injure themselves worse? And who are you to judge how the cage looks? It obviously gets taken care of like it's supposed to be! Don't act like a bleeding heart and then complain when a place that you don't work at isn't holding up to YOUR standards! Obviously they're doing the best they can and want people to see these beautiful creatures! I live in Michigan where owls are fairly common and I've never once actually seen one in my life! If this place was located in Michigan, I would gladly volunteer!

It's not so much the camera as the fact that a person is in their space. They act the same way when we go in to clean, feed, & water. We don't like to stress them unnecessarily but we have to go into the enclosure to provide care. Besides, it's a good thing they aren't too comfortable with humans, since our goal is to release the animals back to the wild.
