*Monika:•*• not really, I’ve had birds all my life...parakeets, quail, chickens that would ride on the handlebars of my bike, ducks that would fly next to me as I water skied, conures, a cockatoo, and cockatiels, but raptors were always my favorite. My mom didn’t want me to keep him at first, but eventually he grew up and was beautiful. Would sit on my shoulders and preen my hair, and my dad and I would fly him at midnight. I released him back into the wild when he was ready at Eufala wildlife refuge. He kept flying back to me but eventually stayed.

I was once out searching for my kitten who had gotten out, in the middle of the night. As I reached the end of my block, out of no where, I heard a barn owl let out that horrific shriek, nearly emptied my bladder, and then saw it silently flying away about fifty feet away from me, thanks to full moonlight. Amazing how quiet the bastards are, but when they decide to make noise they go for it full throttle. At first I feared the worst for my Kimba, but the owl didn't eat him, I found him and got him home safe.

I was trying to identify it as a bird of prey and couldn't find it so was leafing through the bird book and it happened to open at the owl section, and there was that bird! so large, and flying in the late afternoon so I never expected it to be an owl. @@ponolovefarms3926 just so you know, doing this is not good for the birds (same with replicating calls by voice, though that's harder and so less abusable). it's awesome to see the owls fly up to you but it is confusing for them and it puts them in kind of a bad spot when they really should be resting and saving their energy during the day. not to mention it puts them at risk of being spotted and marauded by diurnal birds like crows that they'd really do best to avoid. it's also a very bad idea in heavily populated owl areas or breeding seasons because it can instigate conflicts or hinder proper breeding between the owls. every once in a while it might be ok but really it's not recommended, even if it is an easy way to spot a cool owl.

I think if I heard a Barn Owl screaming at night I’d be really unsettled but the other two have a very creepy “song”. A friend of mine saved a baby screech owl from a cat. Fed it for a few weeks. Let it go and it came back to her house. She's gonna feed it till it's full grown then release it. I hear them all the time here in southwest Mississippi. Rarely see them.
