You'll notice this video has a different editing style than usual for Projector: this is partly because I wanted to make it feel consistent for those who are watching this directly following the previous Scream video, but also because I've had issues with Paramount and other distributors (*cough* Universal) claiming my Projector reviews for the plot synopsis where I use trailer footage (even though I edit them to fit my narration). I am aware still frames are intensely boring, but it turns out some film distributors would prefer you to not see any of their films in reviews.

The film makers didn't have the balls to kill off any real characters out of the 7 kills that were onscreen 3 were random people in a store and 2 were the opening kill . That just leaves the therapist and Anika. Everyone else was killed offscreen or the killers.

So basically like the first 4? 3 main survivors and only side characters, with maybe one major like Randy.

@GrayWolf5000 not really. Yes, it is true that it was only side characters. but the first 4 didn't have near as many fake outs and offscreen deaths. in this one, there were only 4 onscreen kills that weren't gf, and at least all of the side characters killed were characters we met in the first 4. this one 2 people never speak, and they are just dead. then you have the 3 people in the Bodega (who just happen to be there) and have nothing to do with the story. and technically, there were added main story characters in the first 4. like Sydney's boyfriend and halie from 2. the entire cast of stab 3 in 3. There was a bunch of new cast in 4 (all of Jill's friends) and the 3 new cops. in this one, every kill, but Mindy's girlfriend was just a random person in the city that nobody knows who they are.

2 out of the core four need to die in scream 7, I liked 6 a lot but Chad/Kirby (maybe mindy) shouldn’t have survived. Plot armor in full effect.

My only nit-pick is that I wish they would have gone with Henry Czerny as the mastermind killer, not who they ultimately went with. I'm a big fan of Czerny, whether he's a protagonist or antagonist. In many of his roles (Clear and Present Danger, Missions Impossible, etc.) he's always framed as being ethically dubious at best, or for blown amoral at worst (even if he isn't actually those things in reality, a la Mission Impossible). I think he would have been the best actor in that mastermind role. Also, I loved your Vin Diesel joke!

I really enjoyed Scream 6! Almost 30 years in and 6 movies deep the quality is this good is amazing. Wes and Kevin should be proud! There's no other franchise that can claim that kind of consistency. But I'm uneasy about Sidney not being in the film because I love Neve but the character wasn't missed at all and kind of makes any immediate future appearances forced and contrived. Maybe give Sidney a break for at least a trilogy/decade. I think it may be best for the story. And the new cast really came into their own! Funny how that happens when you write actual characters instead of walking homages. I actually want to know even more about these people but it's going to be hard to raise the stakes when the Core Four are now literally super heroes! Still, I'm excited for Scream 7. Really Enjoyed your Scream Fest! It was fun to see your experience evolve in real time. Scream endures for a reason and deserves its flowers!

Yeah, getting stabbed in scream 6 doesn't seem to have any lasting effects ;p One of the main 4 gets stabbed a dozen times in the gut and survives, two of the killers get stabbed relentlessly and don't die immediately and Jenna Ortega gets stabbed 3 times in the gut/back and is just chilling in an ambulance with a blanket at the end like nothing happened. For all the blood and gore in this one, the stabbings feel as impotent as they ever have in this franchise. That said, I really liked this one. I was laughing quite a bit, 3/4 of the big set pieces were genuinely suspenseful and I like all of these characters. Even the main girl who I thought was kind of bland last time was much better. Better than 5 for me personally. I do think the end reveal was supposed to mirror the reveal of scream 2 with it's familial ties to the previous movies killer and for a lot of the same reasons it didn't quite work in Scream 2 it doesn't quite work here either.

The idea that the kids of a murderer are basically destined to also become murderers rubs me the wrong way. To put it mildly: this train of thought lends itself to some very ugly type of politics, where children are punished for the sins of their parents.

It should be noted this mentality is largely forwarded by the film's villain, and refuted by the heroes and their positive framework. Although Sam clearly has some degree of mental illness, the only people she kills are attackers (admittedly in frenzied fashion), she is clearly the hero battling against manipulation and lies.

I don't think that die Hard comparison works. If it wasn't for the main character in die hard 3 you wouldn't know that it was a die hard film. Everything else that makes them die hard films is kind of out the window in the third one.

I disagree, I think there's a lot of it from the creative team (John McTiernan directing, Michael Kamen scoring, many of the same cues), the Gruber twist, the series trademark elevator scene, and the sweary tone, it feels a lot like Die Hard, but trading the claustrophobic set-up for bigger scope, much like this one does.

  • @basquat76

@@FilmBrain The elevator is a trademark scene? It was a closed setting. A building, an airport now it's an entire city. Main character is gone in scream. The villain being a Gruber doesn't really matter. It's just a classic connection to the previous films like in scream 3. The only thing that feels like die hard is McClane. That's it.

All 5 Die Hard films have a major scene in an elevator or elevator shaft, hence why it is a series trademark. @MrHootiedean , I wouldn't describe the above as trolling, I think that's being a bit overzealous. Trust me, I've been on the end of it enough times.
