Thanks for the epilepsy warnings. I have friends and relatives who are epileptic, and you're the only reviewer I know of who regularly does this.

So many people want to seem to put Sweeny down due to her looks & her Euphoria character, but she's delivered some engrossing performances recently

It's pretty obvious she's way smarter than most give her credit for. Even a cursory look at her Wiki page and her academics will confirm that.

@@FilmBrain I enjoy your criticism even on films I dislike. You acknowledge quality potential even when the execution leaves something to be desired. Regarding Sweeney, I appreciate you giving me other films of reference to check out. The performances I've seen do tend to give off a sense of pervasive dry vacuousness. Is she capable of more? I'm willing to look into it however, her intelligence doesn't indicate an ability to effectively portray versatile characterization.

Sweeny also has great dramatic chops when she played Reality Winner

Even with the lack of substance, this looks exactly like my kind of horror, both as someone who is terrified of pregnancy, and who has been really enjoying this trend of semi-grounded, semi-surreal, character-driven horror movies with that crisp, showy, deliberately attention-grabbing cinematography. (Thanks to Ari Aster for not only popularizing that trend, but also setting the bar extremely high with Midsommar.) I don't mind the grungier side of the genre, but after decades of darkness, washed-out color palettes and shaky cam, I appreciate this more elegant approach to visual storytelling, especially if it doesn't flinch away from showing you the "goods".

I kind of figured out the plot of Immaculate as the whole thing about a young girl unknowingly in an evil convent is similar to what will be in The First Omen which will possibly try to compete with this movie when it comes out in a couple of weeks. I personally think Immaculate would be better for people to watch as I think The First Omen will be just another nostalgic cash grab much like that of The Exorcist: Believer.

It is about a woman having autonomy over her body, specifically in terms of reproduction, while serving a religion that demands control over women's reproductive organs. And the heroine is an American where the court ruling that ensured women's reproductive rights was turned over. And our heroine kills the baby in the end. So, it was about something more than the story, it just doesn't hit you over the head with it, pardon the pun.

As far as scream queens, my allegiances are still with Mia Goth. :P

Gore and shock value comparable to the recent Evil Deads?

@@mrflipperinvader7922 the villain is her for the most part . She has the highest body count in the movie. And she is highly unrelatable. Just the last heinous murder of a baby would put her in jail even in an extremely liberal state\society.

@@mrflipperinvader7922 and the premise cannot be more stupid. If cloning Jesus would be possible, there would be no need to inseminate unsuspecting nuns. There would be millions of women who would volunteer. They would just sign a contract. If you think about it, in the movies the mothers of the devil in Rosemary's baby and the Omen had more maternal.instincs than the mother of a cloned Jesus!

As far as "unrelatable", well you're not a nun in a covenant, but even then you don't need to be one to understand her situation Also there's no telling what kind of Monster her baby potentially is, possible rape baby

(SPOILERS) The baby is highly implied to be monstrous from the snarling sound it makes, her reaction to seeing it, and that it appears to be a demonic red when it is briefly seen out of focus (but that could be from just being born). It's pretty obviously not meant to be the actual Second Coming. Also, if you think the convent that tortured and murdered people (including cutting out their tongues, burning crosses into people's feet so they can't escape etc.) are the heroes, then that says some rather alarming things about you.
