Try to stay on the “sweet spot” which is not the back of the blade or the toe pick, it is right before the toe pick, and it helps your spins stay balanced and you won’t fall, i hope that helps

Daphnie Starr I had the same problem and still do sometimes. Honestly I find it’s all about practice, practice, practice. I also try to rock back a bit on my skate when I know I’m on my toe, but that doesn’t always help either lol. Keep practicing and I’m sure it will happen less!

Hey Daphnie Starr, I've was a skater when I was younger up till about 20 and just started back up-stopped for 30 years. Have been working on my scratch spin for about 6 months and in my head I know how to do it and how it feels, but I'm having an issue with the step into it.. There are days I can get the rocker and spin great, then slowly into the session, it unravels and I let it rest. Are your boots laced too tight and are you getting a good knee bend? My coach says I'm bringing my back leg around too soon and not squeezing my butt muscles. Sometimes I find it helps to go faster and enter with a 3 turn. Good luck tho..I know it's frustrating!

HI Hon. its nice to see you. you've definitely been missed. sorry for the disappearance. ive been nursing serious back pain that had me on bed rest😟 this is the honest truth im feeling alittle down right now because im in alot of pain right now but when i saw you had a new video, it put a smile on my face i can't remove and i swear its the truth!! Its so good to see friendly angelic faces when you grow through things in life😊 I found out a month ago that what's really causing my pain is DDD. Better known as degenerative disc disease!!! thats the real reason why when i do certain things exercise wise or stretching wise its hurts real bad!!! ive had several doctor and physical therapy visits. the situation has gotten so bad they referred to a pain management clinic 😢 its a 50,50 coin toss what they might say i have to do next. whether its pain injections or when worse surgery😰. So im just in a bad place right now and friends and family are trying to be there for me to give some comfort but its been hard you know😟. I try to stay positive nonetheless and they are helping me get through it. wonderful inspirational people like you are also helping me getting through it so thats why when im on your channel im all smiles☺ even when im in pain. watching this video do to the that ive joined you in alot of stretching and workout videos i sometimes forget how talented you are in ballet and figure skating. watching you is like a real thing of beauty in motion. god bless you sweety and i look forward to what comes next from you. 💐 💖

It looks easy for you to enter the spin, but difficult for me or maybe more others, I cannot go into the spring and fall out of balance, always, the force momentum throws my leg out, can’t hold it.

  • @Natalie37854

Make sure you're rolling up onto your toe pick when you launch into the air, so that you're launching off the toe pick. It takes time to become comfortable doing it. Also make sure you're bending deeply in your knee and ankle on the takeoff. Keep your arms and shoulders pressed down - I see a lot of beginners launch their arms into the air on jumps, where their arms are basically up near their chin or nose when they jump, which looks awful. Your arms should be back during the prep and then SCOOP them (DON'T swing them, for the love of god!!) forwards so that they assist in giving you height. Your free leg should also be lifted into an "h" position, which will give you more height. Eventually the free leg will cross down in a backspin position for your axel.

@@Sofabar sooo so true. Holding your balance in a simple camel has its trick and it looks so elegant and so does the split spiral. Anyway a curious question, do your students are more influenced in the old school like Sasha Cohen, Michelle Kwan and Irina Slutskaya or they are more influenced in Yulia Lipnitskaya and Alina Zagitova. Do they tell you more often I want to grow to be like Sasha Cohen ir they tell you more about Zagitova, Lipntiskaya and now Alexandra trusova ?

Try off ice jumps. Really try to concentrate on what you're doing, so you're not concentrating on the fear. Also perhaps buy some padding for your butt, or whoever you're afraid to fall on. There is no shame in padding, especially if it's going to help you! For leg strength, do more leg workouts off the ice, also try some yoga balances off the ice. ❤️

  • @thatpianistmoth

    @thatpianistmoth

    6 жыл бұрын

Ariel Lee I had the some problem. Practice is key, but you could be having issues with either your arms (they should really get you into the air), your knees (the more bent when jumping, the more you can spring to the floor, and the more momentum you create with the other leg with the "pendulum" motion, the better as well) or jumping directly from the blade (the jump should spring in the last moment from the toepick, I had this issue for the longest time and it really helped my waltz jumps to go into my outside edge and then toepick)

Make sure your weight is completely over your skating side. You should be pressing on the pinky toe, not the big toe. Oftentimes people let themselves collapse too far on the inside when they try to hold their leg out in the first position of the scratch. Don't let your upper body drop either, unless you're trying to do a side layback. In a basic first position for a scratch, your upper body should be completely straight. Don't stick your butt out either - this is a common mistake, especially for that first extended position. Make sure your butt is engaged and tucked under your hips. Tense your core for more balance and stability. If you don't feel tension in your butt and core when you're spinning, you're not engaging them enough. Keep your free leg straight - don't let it bend until you're ready to start bringing it in. Keep your arms and shoulders pressed down. If you're a righty (counter-clockwise), your left arm should be at 9pm. If you're a lefty, your right arm should be at 3pm. This is crucial to staying over the skating side. If you watch the video, her left arm is firmly at 9pm until she pulls in.

I can't get into the spin position where my foot is out in front at the angle (before crossing legs). I can do it fine off-ice on my spinner, but have been hacking at it for weeks on ice with no luck. I can only do a basic one-foot spin. If anyone has any tips it'd be appreciated. :/

Tigerlily Hmm I didn’t read any science based studies about this ruining your voice in the long run 🤔 This is just how I talk when I’m relaxed. I have tried to improve it for my videos and hopefully that shows in my recent videos.

@@Sofabar I'm not sure if scientific or if there are studies running about the topic, but i read commercial articles about it, its called frying your voice and happened to Paris Hilton and Britney since they altered their voice a lot. However, it would make you more enjoyable to listen to if it was less there, its a bit too much.

  • @Sofabar

Tigerlily I would say their smoking habits had more to do with their voice going bad, but you and I don’t know them personally, so we cannot judge anything. Once again, I’m not faking anything. My voice is fried naturally, this is just how I talk. And like I said I try to control this for my videos after it’s been pointed out more than once to me. Hopefully my voice fry is less noticeable in my new videos. I am trying to be polite here, but I feel your comments aren’t the friendliest in terms of trying to get your point across, especially your first comment, for the future you should work on being a bit more sensitive. I take your criticism very seriously and will work on it ☺️ Thank you and have a nice day!

Man... I can't even skate backwards correctly.. there's no indoors skate rink where I live so I can only skate in the winter IF the outdoor rinks have been maintained and IF it doesn't snow to much(which unfortunantly it often does). So I don't get enough practice at all. Is there any exercises I can do without skates(or with roller skates) that can help me improve at all? I'm struggling with everything exept skating forward.

Pretty much everything in ice skating can be adapted on roller skates. look up roller figure skating. Personally I think it looks kind of silly when they try to make it all artistic and graceful (sorry, just can't get that aesthetic with big bulky roller skates) BUT, if you don't physically have access to ice, then it's a practical alternative.
