This is super helpful! My coach didn’t take me through backward outside edges before we started jumps and I really struggle with the landing going inside edge even if I curve the right way. I’ll practice my backward edges!

Same! My landings were terrible because I was not comfortable landing and following through on my outside edge.

You are a great teacher! I wish my coach had been able to break ir down in steps like this way back when I was skating!

Gah, you make it look so easy! I love the way you break things down into the right amount of progressive increments. With a little luck and a lot of deliberate practice maybe I can land a waltz jump by the end of this year! Wish me luck!

I finally got over my mental block and am able to waltz jump (small and poorly but still 😇 ). I had a real fear of landing backwards on one foot and just couldn't commit to rotating in the air, but then I remembered the tips at 4:00 and 5:10 to do the 2-foot jumps, and that exercise gave me the familiarity and confidence to move on to one foot. THANK YOU!

Thank you for your explanation, your breakdown of everything was suuuuper helpful. I think I might finally understand what I'm doing wrong. I'm trying to rock to my toe pick to jump before I'm in that proper H position and I think that's what's throwing me off my balance and making a clean waltz jump difficult for me.

Thank you so much for all these tips! My coach took me immediately to mid ice, demonstrated the waltz (silently) and asked me to do it! no toe hop, bunny hop, technical direction (e.g. take off & land on toe pick) =) needless to say, im currently not doing it. Now i am excited to apply your tips step by step!

Hahaha....that coaching technique. That actually will be the best approach for some minority of talented students. That would be a "learn by doing" "learn by watching" "visual learner" or "learn by example" approach.

@TheLarryBrown I know. And I did some things with her this way. But I generally like knowing the break down of elements, to manipulate/change them in the future. And she knew I'm a scaredy cat + never skates before and didn't know blade had flat, in & out 🤣

I have the feeling that video instructions are better than some (or many?) in-person coaches. Mine at least starts off skates and occasionally corrects some posture, but never talked about the h position or bringing the arms behind which is always seen on "bigger waltz" (the Axel)

Do you wear parabolic or regular gold seal? Your videos are great for adults who learn better with break down of each element. Keep up the good work!

Si ya lo sé hacer en patines de 4 ruedas, aqui es mas fácil o mas dificil porque se hace mas fuerza?

I think landing on a blade on the ice would be a little more difficult than landing on wheels, but if you're really good on wheels then it's probably not a difficult transition to ice.
