Right on. Once I saw that first lake we were on a mission to see as much as we could before we left to get a bigger picture of what to expect in that wilderness area. I think I saw and showed enough for everyone, including myself, to get an idea of what to expect if they hike into there.

Right on. The snow is clearing with all of this heat so it's time to start powering!

That was a tough day - I guess I can cross off Eiler lake off of my bucket list LOL - still awesome getting out there and exploring👊🎣👍

Great area for hiking, camping, and checking out wildlife if that's all you want to do. I could have don't without that bear ripping around in the trees behind my tent at night though!

Fishing was horrible up here but the rest of the experience was a great time. The Pit River the next day was awesome.

Thanks for the intel! Will cross that one off!

I'm not saying there's no fish, I'm just seeing I saw nothing that would make me believe I was walking away from good fishing lakes. I'm crossing it off too! That's why we went into search mode and just tried to see as many lakes in the area as possible. No inlet or outlet creek at the first couple of lakes put me on red alert!

Nothing at Icehouse is a drag. I got skunked there last year once. The water was really high and nothing was going on. Oh well, maybe you can get into some next time.

Recon on these shallow fish less lakes used to drive me nuts! Very discouraging!

I'm with you on that. That's why we decided to hike to as many lakes as possible in the 24 hours we were there to see what was around and it all turned out to be the same. Now we know.

Bummer on those lakes. Maybe they are so shallow that there is freeze die off.

We had the same theory. Especially with the harsh winter a couple of years ago. That possibility, no stocking in close to a decade, and no creeks to spawn in seemed to add up to no or very few fish.

What size jig do you use in the alpine lakes, 1/32 or 1/16 ?
@wildernesswithamani1027

I am favoring the 1/16oz tube jigs over the 1/32 these days. Less action but the faster sink rate and better casting range make up for it. I can jazz up the action with some moves!

Do you use the 1/16 black caribou jig in the little alpine lakes? I've heard flies with the clear bubble can be effective.

I usually use 1/16oz tube jigs in Alpine lakes. I do have some 1/16oz marabou jigs I bought on accident but I need to get those into the mix. I've run into multiple instances where they could have been really usefull.

Talk about disappointing. Looks like they haven't stocked anything up there since 2016 or 2018. Either way, without anywhere to reproduce the population is likely toast. I didn't see any sign of anything. If there are fish I don't think there are a lot.
