Scott Bonnar 45 Teardown (1 - Removing Sprocket Nuts and Chains)

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Time to get started tearing down the Scott Bonnar 45 14" solid deck mower. Make it a ritual: before doing anything else, loosen the nuts securing the top sprocket and the double sprocket on the reel shaft. Then remove the two outermost chains.
In subsequent videos we'll be taking this machine back to bare metal before the rebuild. Watch all the teardown videos here: • Scott Bonnar 45 Teardown

About me and this channel: I'm Michael, a homeowner and aspiring lawn addict. I've put together these videos to share as much as I can, as best I can, from my recent experience rebuilding two Scott Bonnar 45 mowers. Although I'm a passionate wood worker and ex-IT guy, I have zero mechanical experience. I'm no expert on these subjects but I learn by sharing and it encourages me to grow a better lawn and build a better mower if I know you're watching!

At 5:47, the chain can't possibly go in the opposite direction, it is attached (welded) to the other sprocket 🙂. The chain clip was installed facing the wrong way. The easy way to remove these clips is to use a wide blade flat screwdriver, wide enough to press against both ends (sides) of the clip and tap the screwdriver handle (by hand or small hammer) this pops the clip over the first "pin". Press the clip off the first pin and the clever design of the clip allows you to lift the clip off the second pin without difficulty. On my mower, the chains are different pitch spacing, so they cannot be installed on the wrong sprocket, therefore cannot be mixed up. I hope this helps 🙂
