  • @maxfliart

    Thx. I believe I used blue Mt. Fuji tissue from Easy Built, but normally I would spray white tissue with a blue Americana Gloss Enamel. Their water based acrylic enamels are inexpensive yet cover beautifully. Yes, I always dust the model at the end with a few passes of Krylon clear or matte.

  • @maxfliart

    @maxfliart

    Жыл бұрын

    @@davidbarfield1431 Yes, it's the craft store paint. Just make sure it says *Gloss* on the label, as that's the acrylic enamel, but there are fewer choices. I thin it with water until it's like a milky consistency, very thin. The other product is their acrylic line, of which there are many. I use the glue stick plus 70% isopropyl alcohol to attach the tissue. It will streak the acrylic, but not the acrylic enamel. I spray with Krylon after the model is first covered with tissue and shrunk with water. The Krylon has a plasticizer in it that prevents the continual shrinking of the tissue, allowing you to avoid warps, and build lighter.

    Hi Dave. There's a lot of curve happening there, so I probably pieced it together, going stringer to stringer and former to former, with small single pieces, rather than try one piece for more sections at once. You'll quickly find out if it can handle it. I'm sure I also made many snips on the excess tissue to allow the curves to happen, as you would do around a wingtip.

    Hi Marc. Yes, I used the thickest monofil that I could find and dropped two of them in place. Still, the side flex is only so-so and the entire deal still seems to dislodge sometimes. Not sure if it was worth the effort, vs. simply anchoring it solidly into the frame. A old friend who loved this model did that on his and appeared to do ok...but I don't know if it really stayed secure, or if he kept the repair report to himself. :-D Good luck with yours. @@maxfliart Hi Tom, I started building this plane from the outerzone plans a few weeks ago, studying your videos of it to get a good grasp on how the construction should go, especially the DT element and how to build this in. I'm about 90% through the build and I've really enjoyed every moment. Can I ask please, I'm making a hand carved propeller in accordance with the original plan. It is an 8 inch prop and I've never made one before. I've completed it just about, pleased with its shape and balanced it. It weighs 4 grammes, but I'm wondering if it is still too thick. Half way down the blade from the tip it is 5mm thick on both blades. is this too thick? maybe it should be about 3mm thick at this point. I made it from 3 laminations of hard 1/4 inch balsa. Any advice you could give would be greatly appreciated. I'm hoping to test glide and initial trim this little plane in a month or two, dependent on our British weather and finding a field of long grass on a dry day with no wind at all!
