My team got to work with Dreamworks for the pre-release campaign. The people from the studio and behind the film made this one of the most memorable projects I’ve had the pleasure of being a part of. The score was incredibly well made to accompany the drastic shifts in emotion and energy; “modern vs tradition”

I'm just starting my journey with game and hopefully film scoring, it's something I've always had a love for, and after creating some intro music for a game last year I've discovered that this is my absolute love when it comes to music. Videos like this are invaluable, great work!!.. and even better to see an artist scoring the whole thing from a personal studio. Just amazing

This is amazing! We need more composers giving insight and helpful education for free! We already have Junkie XL doing that for us, so to have yet another composer teach us the ways of film scoring is absolutely wonderful! I, myself, want to be a composer, so stuff like this brings a whole bunch of inspiration and encouragement. Thank you for making this!

I do have one question regarding cubase... There's a lot of channels in a project like this, do you render out the stems once your happy with them to optimise everything? Some of my bigger projects can struggle in areas where there's a lot of intensive instruments and plugins being used, but I'm always in fear of printing the channels just in case I need to go back and change something, I've noticed here all your stems are audio files. Is it just a case of biting the bullet and saying what will be will be?

Hiya! You’re looking at my final synthmaster sequence, so I’m mainly bouncing to audio only when I’m prepping it for the mix/orch recordings. That’s why it looks relatively neat and tidy. While I’m writing, programming, and curating sounds, I’m almost exclusively working with instruments and MIDI, unless I want more finite control over a sound, then I might print to audio and effect from there. If things become a hog, I will often just print to audio and commit, knowing I can always go back and make tweaks to the MIDI and re-bounce. I often find that taking that leap to commit to an idea can be quite liberating as it’s a self-imposed creative boundary. Hope that helps!

@@StephEconomou perfect, thank you!! Liberating is definitely something I need to start adopting and stop being so caught up in fear of committing. I also grabbed a couple of baby audio plugins after watching this, definitely useful tools 🙏🏻

Amazing Video, and wow such talent. I have one Christmas request :) could you share the exact sound you used for the Warm Bass Gong that underpinned the strings during the section you explained. You did mention the use of Spitfire libraries of which I also have a ton of, but that bass was awesome so if you could tell me where it comes from I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks for the video and happy Christmas.

Unfortunately, it’s an old custom patch that isn’t available for purchase, I’m sorry! I do find that if you slightly soften the attack (or add an LPF) and increase the release to any deep, round, synth bass patch, you can create something similar. Hope that helps!
