@@bobhuard4520 I understand its primarily the fuel injection and lack of test equipment for modern electronics he is concerned about. I would "Guess," it also has to do with fuel grade requirements . What ever his reasons i honor his hard won experience.

Well done Scotty total respect I wish I had half your knowledge 👍

It’s going pretty good Dennis. We’re just staying put in Sayulita camped on the beach.
I remember when Scotty tried the S&S 111 and it didn't last. He went back to the standard 80 inch Evo with upgraded 6-speed trans. Great setup for him. Don't need all the unnecessary stuff they put on bikes today. If you could find a new 1997 or 1998 Ultra Classic Electra Glide with 6-speed kicker and reverse. Of course, it would probably have to be carbureted instead of fuel injected.
Cool video man keep it up!

I have a Triumph TR6 single carb 1965 with a Fairbanks Morse Magneto and bolt on hardtail and the only tool I carry is a pair of pliers and a master link in case the master link on the Chain breaks.
Got quite a crew down there.
EVO motor mechanics are a dying breed.
The stator can my 1999 883 Sportster gave up the ghost at 250,000 MI. The Harley shop said don't fix your old bike buy a new one and I said okay it's got 50,000 miles on it and it's 10 years old where you going to give me for it? They said nothing. I have four hundred thousand miles on my Sportster now I don't carry any tools with me. I just change oil filter and tires maybe a battery still on the original untouched engine. Phenomenally reliable and dependable beyond my wildest dreams. Evo Sportster with the best bike Harley ever built. Good luck with your repairs
The only way you can work on my bike is to promise to give me yours when you mess mine up! Hahaha
Scotty’s a real biker…
Nice video. -28 last night up here in Ontario.Needless to say...we ain't riding.
Yup, when I went on my solo long-distance rides on my new '72 shovelhead I always carried a lot of tools. It should be standard oper procedure SOP for all Harely new and old bikes. I see HD breakdowns all the time on the road. That's why so many HD riders ride in groups me thinks? I still have the '72 but use my BMW now cause I ain't no mechanic & never had issues yet with it.

When you ride in groups there’s more bikes to break down. 😂👍🏻
He's absolutely right about wire routing.... first gen,twin cam had a fucking crank sensor with a 4 foot pig tail and ran all the way down the frame. On the bottom....I redid it.....
@johnsmotorcyclechannel2243

Yeah I had to change the crank sensor on my ‘01. I fished it through the original harness, nothing below the frame.
Interesting life
I'm getting a new set of Cobra Full Exhausts and eliminating that over quiet factory resonator set up on my Nomad. Scotty do I really need to get a Fuel module or re-map the Fi modulator. Or just bolt and ride

To each his own. I deal with the politics of "Homelessness " and many so called homeless even older citizens choose life on the streets or the road.
scotty. Do you think it’s possible that you’re having these electrical issues because of that higher output, higher consumption headlight? I was in four different 24 Hour Roadraces back in my day. Every year, rookies would show up and have their machine equipped with way more lights than their electrical system could keep up with. About two hours into the darkness, we would see them coming up the front straight.. as their RPMs would climb as they went through the gears, the headlight would get brighter until they shifted, then it would get dimmer and then grow in brightness, with every gearshift. Then when they would pull into the pits for a gas stop/ride or swap. The bike would just quit because, there was not enough power left in the battery/alternator to keep the ignition going. And they would have to either swap the alternator and battery from the spare bike they were permitted to have two cannibalize parts off of, or, they had to wait till it got light out and they did not need headlights anymore.. The best solution for racing in the dark I ever saw, was whoever prepped motorcyclist magazine team bike for that race one year at Nelson ledges Ohio just south of Cleveland. They had grafted An automobile alternator to the engine just behind the Cylinders. They had their headlights arranged using the turn signals. They would flip the lever to the left and it would turn on extra lighting for going into a left turn while leaned over, and vice versa for rt corners.. but my point is, it was very common to put more headlight on than the electric system could possibly keep up with every year, many teams overlooked that in those 24 hour races..

In Mexico.....WHERE? Where is it safe to ride down to Mexico?
@johnsmotorcyclechannel2243
4 ай бұрын
Nothing we do is safe. You know why they call them donor-cycles. But seriously, the truth is that the media paints Mexico as far more dangerous than it is. We’re hanging out in the small towns about an hour north of Puerto Vallarta.
Ya just put a new belt on, thats a pain in the ass job. I still think harley should go back to a chain. Modern O ring chains you can run them bone dry, no mess, dirt gets in and falls right out. You can throw a new one on at anytime.
@johnsmotorcyclechannel2243
Жыл бұрын
Changing chains would be a pain too though, because you’d still want to change the sprockets with a new chain, and getting that front sprocket off still means removing the primary front and back covers. And chains don’t last as long as belts. But I see your point, a chain most likely would never break like a belt can. Aaron’s bike had two belts break in a short time.
Hey my belt was the same. and then it broke.
Save lots of money taking your bike to a shop costs too dam much these days
