It seems kinda obvious now that it was meant to be a parody -- I'm getting strong "Very Brady Movie" vibes from this, and as an outright parody this could have been a cool movie -- but when it came out, it was unfortunately marketed as a movie for kids. I was a kid at the time and I didn't know it was meant to be a parody. The adult asides flew over my head and I was just plain confused (notwithstanding, there was a /lot/ of hype for this film. My old local Barnes and Noble actually promoted this movie over LOTR). They should have marketed it as a parody geared towards young adults like the Very Brady Movie, and stuck with their original parody ideas. Then again, the Brady Bunch was easier to parody, in my opinion, because it was incredibly cheesy; Scooby Doo was a cute kid's show, though.

It seems a lot of people, especially in the comments, don't realize it, but this was actually the end of Nostalgia Critic for a long time. This review first aired in 2012 and was, as it said at the end of the video... the end. He was gone for a very long time, with Scooby Doo being his last review, however, he eventually made his triumphant return, this time, with a studio and new castmates, making Nostalgia Critic what it is today. And I, for one, couldn't be happier. Not only that they returned to making videos, but also that, when they hit a wall, so to speak, they didn't force it. They took the hiatus they needed, and came back when they were ready, to a fanbase who still loves them.

There are only 2 cases where I can think of him as annoying on any level; both episodes have an example of him thinking that food is for him when it isn't. He was probably the most annoying early on from 1979 - 1982, but in & after 1983 or so, he was slowly maturing. Really, Scrappy from 1983 - 1989 isn't as high-energy as he was earlier, he even was going into his courage skit in one episode, but then he had second thoughts and ran off. I forgot which episode that's in, but I remember it being a 1984 episode. He had the pint sized warrior attitude at times, but he wasn't as high strung and gung-ho.

The main problem is that they wanted this to be a PG-13 movie, with Shaggy being a stoner. This is why you have that smoke shot after the "two years later", and the love interest being Mary Jane. They made it PG though to apply to a younger audience, making it too childish for adults yet too scary for kids.

Actually, there were ghosts and monsters in the original Scooby-Doo. After the success of the show in the 1960s, Hannah Barbara did dozens of specials, movies, crossovers, continuations, and made plenty of clones of the show. Because it’s Hannah Barbara, they essentially threw shit at the wall, and saw what stuck, and ghosts and monsters did for a while.

The four TV movies in the late 90's/early 2000's showed real ghosts and monsters can work. It just needs the right people. Especially when we saw what Zombie Island gave us.
@aaronlandry3934

Ricky Williams That’s true, but I’m talking about the Hannah Barbara ghosts. There was the movie where Shaggy was the next Werewolf for Dracula’s race, because the original Werewolf was on vacation (I know it sounds stupid, but it exists), there was Ghoul School where Shaggy, Scooby and Scrappy were camp councilors for a bunch of monsters, and the 13 ghosts of Scooby Doo, where this monster guy had two annoying ghost henchmen. Plus, there’s all of the crossovers that Scooby and Shaggy were in, and I’m pretty sure that they met both Casper the Friendly Ghost and Harry Scary. Apparently, all Hannah Barbara cartoons exist in the same universe. Also, Marvel’s and DC’s universes exist in that same universe too.....and WWE too now

I don't think any of those monster movies with the cast are considered canon. Seems unlikely that a series all about showing how there's nothing supernatural going on would suddenly change to have supernatural stuff happen. Seems to take away from the point of the original show
@101Volts
5 жыл бұрын
@@cptseagrave1191 Well, _these_ two live actor movies? I REALLY don't want to consider them canonical, overall. I can however consider the 13 Ghosts of Scooby Doo series canonical, it's good enough. There's also a Halloween episode from 1983 (give or take a year) that had real monsters but it's a bit too juvenile for me to watch right now.
Daphne’s entire story arc in this movie is literally just Daphne: I’m not a damsel in distress Other Characters: Yes you are *Rinse And Repeat 100 Times*

THIS. Looking back as an adult, Daphne's characterisation in the 2002 film coming off the back of the Zombie Island to Cyber Chase era just feels so off, and the female empowerment arc feels VERY forced. Even in Where Are You, Daphne may have been danger-prone but she wasn't useless.

There was a deleted scene in the film where she claims she had been studying martial arts and you see her train break shit but for some reason the director cut the scene out . Kind of strange when it make it more believable and you dont have to take her word for it 😅

I've always thought this was a perfect last episode of the original NC. It starts to be a lot more contemplative like the second wave of reviews. Not only does it say it's an unfunny, bland movie, it addresses WHY it's such a poor reflection of the franchise and how it didn't work in the past, doesn't work now, and never will work in the future. This review was arguably the most complete and utter annihilation of a movie Nostalgia Critic had put out yet, while also focusing on the character's own needs to contemplate the state of his role in life, thus ushering in his new approach to analyzing film. I've always loved the Nostalgia Critic, but this is when he became the voice of reason he is today! And it's all in this review for, of all films, the SCOOBY DOO MOVIE! Hats off to Doug, and I'm so glad the review has continued to go on!

I remember seeing this in the theater for the first time. I thought it was a fine movie, up until the fart joke. No lie, my mom SHIELDED my eyes and started RANTING to her husband (quietly, of course) about "HOW DARE THEY resort to this kind of humor in Scooby Doo!" The entire ride home, my mom could not stop screaming about how "THEY RUINED KURUPPA!" ("Kuruppa" is the Japanese name for Scooby Doo.) It's an okay movie, but that scene broke my mom (and later on, me.)

This is why it didn't make any sense; it seemed marketed as an actual PG film and was a big disappointment to me. Even before I watched it I didn't suppose I'd be seeing Scooby doing cartoon hijinks like going behind a thin tree and not showing up on the other side until he wanted to; however, then I watched it in theater... Being 10 years old, _so_ much seemed out of place. Fred's egotistical, Daphne's "done" with being a damsel in distress (OK but why the attitude about it?) and Velma feels ignored because of Fred's egomania. I had no idea why people laughed at the body swap scene with the one liner "Hey! I can look at myself naked!"
