How to Get Enough Sleep for Your Age. People usually think that 7-8 hours of sleep is enough, but that's not always the case. In fact, the number of hours you need to enjoy proper sleep depends and stay healthy depends on your age. Follow some simple rules to restore energy and get the most out of your recharge time.
What happens when you experience a lack of sleep 1:09
If you constantly feel sleepy, are easily irritated, feel exhausted during the day, or often yawn, you most likely suffer from sleep deprivation. Not getting enough sleep also increases the risk of developing the following problems and diseases: exhaustion, depression, changes in hormone function, cardiovascular diseases, visual impairment, and diabetes.

Scientists have established the connection between age and the required number of hours a person needs to have a good night’s sleep. Newborns 0-3 months old need about 14-17 hours of sleep daily. If you're the parent of a 1- or 2-year-old toddler, make sure they sleep for no less than 11-14 hours every day. Kids from 6 to 13 years old still need more sleep than adults: 9-11 hours. Young adults of 18-25 years old need less sleep: just 7-9 hours every day. The same can be said about adults between 26 and 64 years of age: 7-9 hours are enough for them to rest. Elderly people older than 65 sleep even less: 7-8 hours a day.
Each person has individual needs, which may change these numbers. People who are sick, stressed, or, on the contrary, extremely active need more sleep to recharge.
How to get enough sleep and feel refreshed every day 5:36
Fall asleep and wake up at the same time every day. A fixed schedule will regulate your body clock. Don't overeat, have tonic drinks before bed, and avoid cigarettes and alcohol. Create a cozy and comfortable atmosphere in your bedroom. The temperature in the room shouldn't be higher than 75ºF. A short walk in the fresh air before going to bed will help you fall asleep more quickly. Try not to use gadgets before going to bed, and turn off electrical appliances at night. Even if you aren't tired, you still need to go to bed at the same time every day. If you're lucky, you'll fall asleep after a short while.

    Tip: if you can't get to sleep cause there Is another great video, save it to watch later. Doing that on the weekend or time off let's you know you can sleep instead and watch that tomorrow. If you do it on the week day you can sleep and have something to look forward to after school or work!

    8:18 Matthew Walker explains in his book "why we sleep" that you should wake up at the same time everyday, but go to sleep when your TIRED. He says going to bed without being tired is like waiting by the table to get hungry. Also, I sleep a lot better on a full stomach.

    This might sound really weird, but the more you sleep, the more tired you are. It makes sense if you think about it (when you sleep more you're more lazy and drousy and in that sleepy mood, and when you sleep less you are more active)

    @Commander3838 its diffrent for people. look, i do homework, so you do homework and you get grades? nope. the exam is even weirder, and if you have a strict parents its worse. i meant as in we still dont get enough sleep. aight lets see... do you wake up 5 in the morning to go to tution everyday? since your a student, yeah.. especially a high school student i need my 8 hours of sleep. i sleep at 11, my parents come home from work at that time..and at weekends my parents dont allow me to sleep in, so yes, im salty! wow yes

    I typically need 6to7 hours of sleep at night to be fresh. Because i can't sleep during day even if i am tired i hardly fall asleep during day time. But in night i sleep well. Nice and informative video thanks 👍👍

    I'm only 15 and I have sleeping problems since I was 14 no matter how tired I am😢😢. I tend to fall asleep late and wake up a lot and dream so much that I can remember what I have seen😥. In shaa Allah I hope these problems will come to an end soon. Can anyone relate with me??

    Mines is: School schedule - sleep at 12am+ and wake up at 8am and then pANIC because school starts at 8:30 No school schedule - sleep at 1am+, but wake up at like 12pm because I lose sleep from school days

    I find that it depends on what you do. Developing software, I need at least ten hours, a lot of it dealing with the project I am working on, I often wake up with many problems that I thought about while falling asleep, solved. Painting walls, four hours is doable.

    I managed to sleep for 10 hour a day even if i have school :v I spent 10 hour at school and charmschool... So my personal time is 1 hour a day not including eating,taking a bath,changing clothes,toilet and the time i used to travel back and fort from school to home -_-..... My life is just this pitiful TT

    Sometimes for me it goes like this : I wake up the other day as its school . surprised to see my father is still asleep because he wakes up much earlier 🤔I reached my tablet to check the time 3:08 am😱 With a smile on my face as its very early ( according to me ) I go to sleep again . I fell to sleep. soon I felt some cold breeze someone took my blanket off me !😢 " wake up its already 7:34 and your class is on 8:30 " says my father . time went so fast it just felt like I just slept for sec . and I don't understand science behind this I hope Bright Side finds an answer for this .     I feel much older than I thought and I'm only 39. I had an analog childhood and digital adulthood and don't regret it. Didn't need a cell, or any devices back then. By 15-16, I went to bed when I was done which was still earlier than you all still (I knew I and I had a job working 25-35 hours per week. I think I remember my school day: 5:15a- Up to shower, dress, and do any remaining HW 7a - At school - If no HW, napped in Study Hall 3p - Home to unwind a bit 4p - At work 9:30 - Home again for HW or unwind a bit more 11p - Bed (Sometimes later if I was working on a project; Sometimes as early as 10 if I didn't have work on a school day)

    I am a 13 year old that's sleep deprived, Haha. I'm Typing this as of 05:28 AM In the morning right now, no I haven't slept yet and yes I have school to attend to and I have to get ready in 6 AM, this is my routine. FYI I usually get 2-3 hours of sleep unless it's Saturday update: hi its 2024 im gonna be 16 and my current sleep schedule is inconsistent

    Im 15. My limit was 8-10 hours but I slept for 12 hours today💀 My holidays are going on so my mind automatically tells me to oversleep(12am to 12pm). At school days i usually sleep 8 hours (11 to 7). Is it dangerous to sleep so much like this? Can someone relate?

    9-11 hours!? Dang, I need to get more sleep. How much sleep I get at night really depends on how late my brother stays up. We're in a situation where we have to share a room & he is so stubborn. He'll play on his pc until about midnight then he'll shut it off and start watching his videos on his phone for another hour or two. I would have no problem with that, but he always has the volume turned up loud on his phone and no matter what I say he will not use earbuds or headphones! Our beds are only 4-5 feet feet apart so I can usually hear his videos. Then in the morning he'll wake up at like 7-8 am and go back to playing his pc. I'm honestly really worried about him, because of how little sleep he gets. He easily gets super angry at his video games and/or me. He plays his game the whole time he's awake. I have no idea what to do about this. When we had school to go to in the morning (It's currently summer break) he would stay up to midnight, wake up at 6, then sleep on the bus ride to school. My mom tells him all the time but all he says is ''I know...'' and continue with it. I wish she would be a bit more strict with him.. If you made it through all that venting.... well have a cookie 🍪🍪🍪 And if you decide to reply with a suggestion for me then have some icecream 🍦🍦🍦

    +Miley Garcia Finally someone on KZread I can relate to. Told him he needed 9-11 hours of sleep, and now he's actually been going to bed earlier. :D (Can't post a real emoji, because my computer is a little messed up right now and I can't flip the keyboard around and use the touchscreen to get to them) Oh! Random question, but does anyone know what could be wrong with my computer? The mouse and touchscreen doesn't work well anymore. It does it's own thing and sometimes freezes, and when I'm on Pinterest and click the view pin option it'll start opening multiple tabs of that pin. I have a Chromebook so it shouldn't get viruses. Just a question for the one tech guy scrolling through the comments? Halp

    That sounds like a bad situation to be in. If you like music or have another form of less annoying noise, it will help you distract yourself and you can sleep longer. Classical music works the best. As for your brother, he can be sleep deprived and it'll be his own fault.

    At my age, I’m 12, and I always have trouble sleeping, even during schools weeks. It’s kinda hard because sometimes I get very tired if I stay up until 5 or 6.

    In Philippines the internet speed is the most common cause of lack of sleep because you can only use internet between 12am to 8am
