Scholarship එකක් දෙනකොට consider කරන්නේ ඔයාගේ performance එක. (GPA+ Publications+ how genuine you are as a student+ your motivation to study that field) They have no idea about any demand or whatsoever in our country. Most people don't even know where Sri Lanka is. So as long as you are in a reputed university it doesn't matter. Wishing you best of luck for your future endeavors! 😊

Akki. What do you think biochemistry. I got selected for biochemistry. But the problem is there are only limited seats for honours. If I end up with a general degree with a gpa about 3.2 or something.Can i get a schol from USA or Europe. First of all congratulations! 👏 🎉 Well there are a couple of possibilities. 01. You getting selected to MB hons 02. You don't get selected to MB but you get selected to another hons degree Ex: let's say chemistry 03. You end up with a general degree but have a good gpa For a scholarship all that matters is your performance. For example Europe doesn't offer 4 years bachelor's. So all they have is three year ones. The advantage of a 4 year bachelor's is you can directly apply for a PhD in either the US or Canada. For Europe you still need a masters to do a PhD. But if you have a good gpa (and preferably publications) you can still get into a US masters. Btw join with us tomorrow for the zoom meeting! Can't wait to see you all! 😍

ඒක degree content එක අනුව depend වෙනවා නේද? Combination එකේ CS වගේ coding ඕනේ වෙන subjects තිබ්බොත් laptop එකක් ඕනේ. මම tab එකකට කැමති notes ඔක්කොම එක තැනක තියාගන්න පුළුවන් නිසා. පොත් ගොඩක් උස්සන් යන්න ඕනේ නැහැනේ. Video එකේ කිව්වා වගේ hons කියන්නේ 4 year degrees වලට. හැබැයි කීප දෙනෙක් නෙමෙයි බහුතරයකට ගන්න පුළුවන්. For example, colombo uni එකේ 4 year degree intakes බලන්නකෝ. Batch එකේ ඉන්නේ physical 240. Physical අයට යන්න පුළුවන් hons degree වල student intake එකේ එකතුව ගත්තොත් roughly 281ක් වගේ.

Akki, I have been accepted into MB UOC, but I am still unsure about the difference between MB and Bioscience. However, I am interested in pursuing Chemistry. Can I still receive a specialized degree in Chemistry?

The difference is that if you are doing a general degree, the third year will be different for bio and MB people. I think you can study chemistry. Just to be sure check the handbook and also send an email to the chemistry department.

Sorry for butting in, the advantage is that you have a better chance of doing the MB special degree and also in case if you have to do a 3 year general degree, you will be studying MB during your third year. Other than that, really no special advantages.

ඔයා අහන්නේ රජරට applied Vs ඕනෙම bio science degree එකක්ද? එහෙම comparison කරන්න බැහැනේ ඉතින්. Specialize කරන්න පුළුවන් areas වෙනස් නේ Uni එකෙන් uni එකට video එකේ පෙන්නුවා වගේ.. University ranks can play a role if you are applying for higher education too.

I don't know about any of those degrees. (But you can use this method to figure out which one is better for you. kzread.info/dash/bejne/YpaG17qAj6uqfbg.htmlsi=36JcWan5CO3WjSqT) When it comes to scholarships, the degree title doesn't matter and there is no "easy" way to get a scholarship. Scholarships are competitive and the only way to get one is to work hard. You will be judged based on your performance. So, 01. Maintain your GPA 02. Have some publications (Don't wait to join research until you are in the fourth year. Talk to professors even if you are in the first year and express your interest) 03. Network 04. Go to conferences/Summer schools/webinars, gather experience and knowledge.. Wishing you the best of luck!

@@welcomeworld2308 With a science degree you can technically become a physician (mbbs) in the US. But I don't know how practical it is for a Sri Lankan student. Sri Lanka is the only country that I know which offers degrees in Medicine for free. Medicine is the most expensive degree in all the other countries. That being said, if you have a bachelor's in Science with biology, chemistry and physics with a minimum GPA of 3.0 you can study medicine in the US. But you need to submit your high school diploma, BSc degree, a good TOEFL score, a good MCAT score ( you have to go to Singapore to do the exam and the fee is around 300 USD), letters of recommendation and extracurriculars. The tuition fee would be a minimum of 50,000 USD per year. To have a PhD, you need at least a bachelor's degree.

@@welcomeworld2308 You mean do zoology and go to US to study medicine or go for a PhD? This is my personal idea. I think external degrees at UOC FOS are better. Open university has had many complaints over the years about degrees taking longer times to complete. But I don't know how true they are. So better to contact graduates from open university. On the other hand if you really want to be a doctor, there were some scholarships on the ministry of higher education website. So check those out too. Best of luck! 😊

(උදාහරනයක් විදිහට european රටවල්වල තියෙන්නෙත් අවුරුදු 3 degree. හතරේ ඒවා තියෙන්නේ US Canada වගේ රටවල් වල.) ඔයාගේ GPA එක, publications, ඔයා genuinely ඒ field එක ඉගෙනගන්න තියෙන කැමැත්ත වගේ දේවල් evaluate කරලා තමයි scholarship එක දෙන්නේ.
