Ehh.... Yes and no. I'm 47yr old. I got my GED at 17 (98% score in 1995) and didn't go to college. I scored 130 on mensa's IQ test. I've learned many trades in my life, many different hobbies spread so wide, I can barely keep up. My mind is constantly looking for something new to learn and I can learn almost anything, but my attention span is short. A few months to a few years, then I learn something new. I said that to preface this, I've read many books. Fictional novels, technical manuals, history, science (astrophysics) and more, but I cannot remember what I read in those books now....or even when i was younger. I could read a technical manual today and forget it in a week. If I go back and look at it, I can refresh my memory and pull those bits out when I need them, but when I don't need them daily, I lose them somewhere in my brain lol. The one thing I've never learned to fix, was myself. So he may have read the book, but not everyone has the memory Charlie does to just bring up the info on the spot. That's the main I don't argue facts with people, because I often don't remember them anymore lol

College once was a great place where one gifted with an above average mind could dive into a world of intellectual enlightenment and learn a fulfilling profession essential for the survival of this civilization. Then it was flooded with people who should have never attended it, because most of them not only lack the mind but also character. Depending on the subject (critical race theory is not what I consider a subject that provides any value), generally reading and studying on your own without the guidance of someone versed in the material will only get you so far. Please note I said generally. This is especially true in subjects such as chemistry, biology and physics. Unless the person is a genius such as Einstein, the will fair far better learning science in college. 99.99% of all people are not geniuses or capable of learning physics to the level of Einstein on their own.

Hot take, but scholarships don't mean a person is more likely to succeed at college, it just means they turned in an essay a little better than someone else or at min turned it in early to get looked at sooner for consideration. Scholarships were meant for smart kids who came from very poor families who couldn't afford to send a smart child to higher schooling. That kid clearly shouldn't be in college at all and i guarantee you he's a pot smoking party kid who only shows up for his finals and midterms.
