I use JEPI for its dividend plus its porfolio top positions are healthcare. SCHD would have been a good buy a few years back in my opinion. Plus You have to invest so much just to get a good payout. I'd rather just invest in individual companies.

SCHD is facing the same economic headwinds that every other stock is. These headwinds are why many financial prognosticators are forecasting a low growth or bear market for the near future. The difference with SCHD is that you have a reliable dividend for support and a fund largely made up of large, stable, low volatility companies. It’s telling that you did not provide a realistic comparable alternative that can give a similar result with a similar amount of diversity. The markets are going to continue to suck in the near future but I happen to believe SCHD will suck less.

The main "disappointment" is that 2 year treasury bond pays more without an expense ratio. So "risk free" cash flow is more lucrative than something with more risk and a cost of ownership.

Definitely still scooping up SCHD by the boatload.

It’s important to mention alternatives .. otherwise this just sounds like FUD ..

1,866 shares here. SCHD grows it's divided way over 10% per year. Interest rates hurt all stocks and ETFs. SCHD is doing pretty good in this high rate environment. Inflation: no stock or ETF has a yield that beats today's inflation... except for iBonds. All large cap stocks have geopolitical risk. So which ETF do you recommend? Or is this clickbait?

Call me crazy but I don't like SCHD at all. Companies under the etf don't have a big dividend yield. Seeing that SCHD is approaching the average yield on its own portfolio I assume that it own dividend yield will not grow unless they do yield plus ROC together. I might be wrong lol ..

He made no good points! Most of the concerns he listed, are actually positives! Everything he stated COULD happen, would be far worse in the broader market! Please do not listen to this guy. Tere is a reason SCHD is the largest dividend ETF out there today!

I'm 5 years away from retirement. Here's some alternatives: for the dividend portion of my IRA I sold SCHD for $O Realty Income. A fantastic REIT & a dividend aristocrat. Dividend increases for 28 consecutive years. I pair it with JEPI & DIVO. I prefer monthly dividend payout vs SCHD'S quarterly.

Thanks for the heads up! I’m looking to retire in 5 years also. I heard about $O and I love REITs. You sold all your SCHD? I like it and wanna put more in. I don’t know too much about JEPI or DIVO. I will look into them. I was curious what do you have your retirement portfolio mix set to? I am still heavy (too heavy) in equities. I need to pare it down so I’m not so exposed to fluctuations since I’m getting close to the end. What do you think about a bond fund….I got some BND.

Schd is hard to beat overall. Just my .02

While yes schd may have been created in 2011 and not have really seen a hard inflation rate like 2008 the tech crash of 2000s and so on..... BUT look at the companies they own. Some of the companies the own have seen almost every crash in history. And have continued to thrive and still increase their dividend.. (main example is KO, Coca-Cola) so while some of the under performing stocks may hold it back some they hold some strong blue chip companies that have rode out depressions before and still increased their dividend. So I would research their holding as well as the fund itself. Their holdings will help you see the risk exposure they truly have. And most of their holding that are blue chip. Are also dividend aristocrats/kings. (Not all but alot are.) Not financial advice but something to research and consider when buying.

Well, all the risks identified pose even greater challenge to growth stocks, mid and low cap stocks ETFs. It would have been better if you provided a better alternative that will perform better then SCHD in the current upcoming high inflation/interest rate environment.

This guy is a joke. During this entire video, he never once mentioned the great companies that SCHD invests in. He tslks about them cutting or stoppind dividend payyments, yet fails to mention that most have a long, consistent history of payying dividends.

Solid video, but to be honest SCHD never sold me... I am always dollar cost averaging into a broad market fund (VTI) as Bogle suggests to capitalize on the entire market inclusive of growth stocks which truly give an investor a run for their money as well...

I like VTI also. SCHD has some of the same stocks but the dividends have SCHD beating VTI. 🤷🏽‍♂️ Since SCHD is investing in large value companies I find it more stable since I’m about 5 years from retirement. Side note: I got way more VTI than SCHD….lol 😬. I’m going to rebalance soon. Who doesn’t love growth stocks? I just can afford a prolonged down market since I’m nearing the end.

Thoughts on DGRO as an alternative?

Of all the funds you could critique you choose the best and most solid ETF out there? No wise. Do you homework and realize that you’ll look back and see how dumb this video is.. 1 million of SCHD in 2012 was paying 30k in dividends per year. That 1 million is now worth 2.85 million and paying out 92k in dividends per year. When the rest of the market is is down 20-30% this was almost at all time highs a few weeks ago. You are buying a basket of the strongest blue chips in America. Some with a track record of raising their dividends for 50+ years.. this is a fund that you accumulate as much as you can whenever you can and never sell a single share. If it drops in price you buy more as it will benefit you in the long wrong.. What fun has consistently grown it’s payout over 10% per year for over a decade?? And lately it’s been more like 12%. You will regret you didn’t buy more SCHD.

I hope nobody is making financial decisions based on what you say! You keep talking about dividends being cut. Look at the companies withing SCHD! They are very strong, dividend kings, and if they cut or freeze dividends, then most companies will do the same. Also, looking at what SCHD invests in, they invest in companies that not only pay dividends, but also have growth potential. As for inflation and rising interest rates, this actually benefits SCHD, as they have a lot of Consumer Staples, such as EP and JNJ, where people will buy the products regardless of cost. Another benefit, which you call a negative, is the low number of stocks. Many funds have several hundred, or even thousands of stocks. When you have this many, you end up with companies that vary widely in performance, size, dividend payments, etc. Everything you talk about is 100% false. SCHD is probably the best dividend ETF out there, as millions of people and financial advisors believe. You haven't got a clue what you are talking about, and I hope nobody ever listens to you!

You can’t pump and dump an etf. The price is mainly a composite of its underlying assets. Comparing a single pumped/dumped stock to an etf are two very different things.

I don’t think SCHD even compares to the meme level of GME. The companies within it are solid blue chip companies, sure it can tank more like the overall market but even if it does it’s more likely to take less of a beating (no guarantees tho)

Folks the problem with SCHD is 18% of their holdings are in Financials and Regional banks that have been getting crushed lately
